ASTASHYNSKI, Valiantsin Mironavich (Born: 29.06.1950, Minsk)
Scientist in the field of plasma energy processes and technologies. Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2014), Doctor of Physics and Mathematics (2000), Associate Professor (2010).
Valiantsin Astashynski graduated from the Belarusian State University named after Vladimir I. Lenin (1973). In 1969 – 1973 and in 1975 – 1992, he worked at the Institute of Physics (since 1988, named after B.I.Stepanov) of the BSSR Academy of Sciences. In 1992 – 2007, Valiantsin Astashynski worked at the Institute of Molecular and Atomic Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus (since 1997, the NAS of Belarus) as Head of Sector (2002) and Head of Laboratory (2004). In 2007, he was appointed Head of Laboratory of the B.I.Stepanov Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Since 2013, Valiantsin Astashynski has been Head of Department of Plasma Physics and Plasma Technologies, Deputy Director for Research and Innovation Activities of the A.V.Lykov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Since 2014, he has been Editor-in-Chief of the International Scientific Journal High Temperature Material Processes: An International Quarterly of High-Technology Plasma Processes (USA).
His scientific works consider problems in the field of physics and technology of high-energy plasmodynamic systems of new generation and modification of materials under the influence of compression plasma flows generated by such systems. Valiantsin Astashynski introduced the concept of the determining influence of ion-exchange processes on the flow of a magnetized plasma in quasistationary plasmodynamic systems in which the ion-drift acceleration of a magnetized plasma is realized. He also developed a method for obtaining high-energy condensation flows with the highest possible plasma parameters and methods for effective structural and phase modification of the surface properties of materials widely used in industry, which make it possible to significantly improve their operational characteristics.
Valiantsin M. Astashynski is the author of over 570 scientific works, including 3 monographs, and of 19 copyright certificates and patents.
He was awarded the Academician V.A. Koptyug Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2014) for the series of research works on physical principles for improving operational properties of the surface of eutectic silumins under the influence of intense electron beams and compression plasma flows.
