KRAVCHENKO Ivan Sergeevich

Ivan Sergeevich Kravchenko (12.09.1902, v. Dmitrovka, Voronezh region, Russia – 12.06.1979), historian. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1969; Corresponding Member since 1959), Doctor of Historical Sciences (1959), Professor (1959). Honored Scientist of the BSSR (1977). Member of the Great Patriotic War.

Scientific works are devoted to the history of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War. He explored the role of the Communist Party of Belarus in the leadership of the struggle behind enemy lines. He made a significant contribution to the writing of the “History of the Belarusian SSR” in 2 volumes (1954-1958, 2nd ed. 1961), “The History of the Belarusian SSR” in 5 volumes (1972-1975), the 10th volume of the “History of the USSR” in 12 Tomah (1966-1980). One of the co-authors of "Gistoryya Minska" (1957).

Author of about 100 scientific papers, incl. 2 monographs.

Awarded with the Order of the Red Star (1943), "Badge of Honor" (1944, 1949), medals.
