Field Media Event “New Recreational Opportunities of Central Botanical Garden for Capital Citizens and Guests” Takes Place

On May 8, 2020, the NAS of Belarus and the National Press Centre of the Republic of Belarus held a field media event “New recreational opportunities of the central botanical garden for capital citizens and guests”.

Liudmila Goncharova, the Deputy Director for Science and Innovations of the Central Botanical Garden of the NASB, Academic Secretary Pavel Bely and Mikhail Rudevich, the Senior Research Associate of the Arboreal Plant Introduction Laboratory, told about the results of scientists’ work, new collections, perspectives of the organization developments to representatives of mass media.

According to Liudmila Goncharova, the Central Botanical Garden of the NASB is one of the oldest botanical institutions in Belarus, the country-largest centre for preservation of living plant biodiversity, and the scientific object being a national treasure. Collection funds of living plants and herbarium of induced plants from the world of the Central Botanical Garden were proclaimed a national wealth. The Central Botanical Garden of the NASB is one of the largest botanical gardens in Europe regarding both the area (93 ha) and the plant collection composition (more than 15 thousand names). Currently, Kansas sakura, magnolias, forsythias, collections of hyacinth and tulips are blossoming in the Botanical Garden.

An excursion around the garden territory was held for the mass media representatives.
