Belarus and Turkey sign roadmap of scientific cooperation until 2021
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) have signed a roadmap of cooperation for 2019-2021. The document was signed by Chairman of the NASB Presidium Academician Vladimir Gusakov and Minister of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Varank in Ankara on 16 April.
Members of Veteran’s Club of diplomatic service of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Belarus visit National Academy of Sciences of Belarus
Members of the Veteran’s Club of the diplomatic service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus visited the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The guests were acquainted with the exposition of the Museum of History of the NAS of Belarus, the permanent exhibition of the NAS of Belarus "Domestic scientific achievements for manufacturers", and held talks with the First Deputy Chairman of the NASB Presidium Sergei Chizhik. They discussed the development of international scientific and technical cooperation (including the development of space research and the creation of a supercomputer in the Republic of Belarus).
National Academy of Sciences of Belarus presents about 40 innovative developments at 26th International specialized exhibition TIBO 2019
The grand opening of the 26th International Specialized Exhibition on Telecommunications, Information and Banking Technologies TIBO 2019, which takes place as part of the International Forum on Information and Communication Technologies TIBO, took place in Minsk today.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov said: “The International Forum TIBO annually demonstrates the speed of global changes that generate and form digital reality. Undoubtedly, TIBO 2019 will also provide us with a glimpse into tomorrow's digital world, and a wide range of forum events will help to take advantage of the opportunities."
Vice-Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei Kilin takes part in Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States
On 5 April 2019, Moscow held the Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The participants discussed topical issues of collaboration.
The Council approved the draft Agreement on the coordination of interstate relations in the field of fundamental research of the CIS member states, which will be submitted to the Council of the CIS Heads of State. The Agreement aimed to determine the main directions, forms and mechanisms of interaction of the Commonwealth States in the field of fundamental research, to promote long-term and mutually beneficial scientific cooperation.
NASB Institute of Philosophy invites to participate in conference dedicated to 90th anniversary of Academician Dmitry Shirokanov
Dmitry Shirokanov is an outstanding Belarusian philosopher of the second half of 20th – early 21st centuries, one of the founders of the academic Belarusian philosophical school.
The range of philosophical interests of Academician Shirokanov is unusually wide: dialectic of necessary and accidental; interrelation of dialectic categories; dialectical interpretation of the formation and development of categories of knowledge in the philosophical concepts of Ancient India, China and Greece; thorough study of the interpretations of the categories of classical German philosophy; detailed disclosure of the dialectic interrelation between the categories of knowledge in the philosophical studies of the twentieth century.
Delegation from National Academy of Sciences of Belarus takes part in IAAS Organizational and Technical Council meeting
On 29 March 2019, the Organizational and Technical Council of International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) held a meeting in the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, Georgia, the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and Russia. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was represented by a delegation led by the Chief of Staff of the NAS of Belarus Pyotr Vityaz who is the Deputy Head of the IAAS.
The fifth student tournament of scientific prospects Sciteen-2019 will be held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus
From 8 to 14 April 2019, the fifth student tournament of scientific prospects Sciteen-2019 will bring together in Minsk students and undergraduates of leading universities of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France to solve urgent problems in science and industry.
The Sciteen tournament is a unique team competition where students and undergraduates are invited to solve the current fundamental and applied problems of the world in science and industry at the intersection of physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, ecology, IT and more. Participants present their research on given topics to the public, discuss them in a fascinating debate with colleagues from other teams, universities and countries. The jury consists of scientists and teachers from the leading research institutes and universities of Belarus and other countries, as well as representatives of the partner companies of the event. The tournament Sciteen-2019 is actively supported by leading companies in the field of science and technology, including EPAM Systems, NatiVita, KAMPILAB, the Science Around Us Foundation and many others.
Delegation of Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK) visits NAS of Belarus
On 24-26 March 2019, a delegation of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK) headed by the Vice-President of TÜBITAK with Orkun Hasekioglu visited the NAS of Belarus. The purpose of the visit is to participate in the sixth meeting of the Joint Committee on Scientific and Technical Cooperation between TÜBITAK and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The guests visited the permanent exhibition of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus "Science for production" and a number of scientific organizations of the Academy of Sciences. On 25 March 2019, a Belarusian-Turkish scientific seminar was held with the participation of Belarusian and Turkish scientists.
International conference on joint efforts for conservation and use of plant genetic resources in Belarus takes place
On 19 March 2019, an international conference "Joint efforts for conservation and use of plant genetic resources in Belarus" was held in Minsk under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). This event was held within the final seminar on the implementation of the FAO project in the Republic of Belarus to strengthen the relevant State program. The project is aimed to enhance the conservation and use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture in Belarus to ensure the sustainable agricultural development. The forum was organized by FAO regional office for Europe and Central Asia, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus, the Scientific and Production Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Agriculture.
Seminar “Man and nature: local knowledge about plants in the traditional culture of Belarusians” to take place on 25 March
On 25 March 2019, the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the NAS of Belarus within the international technical assistance project UNDP-GEF "Strengthening human resources, legal systems and institutional capacity to implement the Nagoya Protocol in the Republic of Belarus" of 30.03.2018 No. 2/1/000874 with the participation of the Center for Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Research of the NAS of Belarus holds a seminar "Man and nature: local knowledge about plants in the traditional culture of Belarusians."
The program of the event includes presentations of herbalists from different regions of Belarus, tasting of herbal collections, showing films about traditional knowledge, including from field expeditions conducted within the project, discussion with project experts and seminar participants (folklorists, geneticists, lawyers and traditional knowledge holders related to genetic resources) of possible national legal mechanisms to protect the rights of traditional knowledge holders based on the existing international experience of such protection.

The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was represented by Alexander Nikitin, head of the Laboratory of Radioecology at the Institute of Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Ivan Makarovets, Research Fellow at the Institute of Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Republican Public Association “Belaya Rus” awards Vitold Pestis, Corresponding Member of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, with Sign of Honor
On 16 March 2019, Rector of Grodno State Agrarian University, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Belarus Vitold Pestis was awarded the breast "Signs of Honor" of the Republican Public Association "Belaya Rus". Until recently, Vitold Pestis headed the Grodno regional organization of Belaya Rus and stood at the beginning of the Grodno regional organization, which started to work in 2004. The Republican Public Association appeared on its base in 2007.
This sign is awarded "for long-term fruitful work to consolidate citizens of the Republic of Belarus based on national interests, patriotic, spiritual and moral values of the Belarusian people, significant personal contribution to the implementation of the statutory goals and objectives of the Association." The award of the Association was established (in accordance with the decision of the Presidium of the Republican Council) on 4 October 2018. At the moment three people have received the award.
