Open lecture "Molecular War of Plants and Microorganisms" to be delivered by Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences and Academy of Sciences of Republic of Tatarstan Igor Tarchevsky on April 6, 2017
On April 6, 2017 an open lecture "Molecular War of Plants and Microorganisms" will take place at the NAS of Belarus as part of the Year of Science and the 26th Godnev Readings. Lecture will be delivered by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor of the Kazan Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Kazan Scientific Center of the RAS (Russia) Igor A. Tarchevsky.
The lecture is organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Department of Biological Sciences of the NAS of Belarus, the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of the NAS of Belarus, and the Belarusian Public Association of Photobiologists and Biophysicists.
Igor A. Tarchevsky is a famous Russian scientist in the field of plant physiology and biochemistry. He put forward and grounded the concept of nonspecific changes in the photosynthetic metabolism of carbon under stress. Currently, he directs the research on the functioning of the main signal systems of plant cells responsible for adapting plants to unfavorable climatic conditions and for the immunity formation against pathogens.
In his report, Igor A. Tarchevsky will tell about the way cells perceive signals about the attack of pathogenic microorganisms. Salicylic acid is one of the key factors of phytoimmunity which "turns on" the implementation of the plant's defensive strategy. It causes the synthesis of antipathogenic proteins and proteins that increase the cells stability itself. Pathogenic microorganisms, in their turn, tend to neutralize these proteins. It became known thanks to the improvement of research methods and widespread use of mutant and transgenic plants.
Lecture of Igor A. Tarchevsky is addressed to scientists, specialists, graduate and post-graduate students, students and scholars and will be held on April 6, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at 1 Akademičnaja vul., assembly hall (4th floor).
