Report for media on support and stimulation of scientific activity of NASB young scientists held in Press House
On 19 October 2018, a press conference on support and stimulation of scientific activity of the NASB young scientists was held at the Press Center of the Press House. The event was attended by Olga A. Gaponenko, Head of the Department of Prizes, Scholarships and Awards of the NASB Main Personnel and Personnel Policy Department; Stanislav S. Yuretsky, Researcher of the NASB Institute of History, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of the NASB Department of Humanities and Arts; Natalya A. Martseleva, NASB Press Secretary.
First Vice Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei Chizhik visits Harbin
Sergei Chizhik, First Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium, visited Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province (PRC). He took part in a number of scientific forums and negotiations there.
Sergei Chizhik also had a meeting with Guo Chunjing, President of the Heilongjiang Academy of Sciences. The officials discussed possible entry of the Chinese colleagues into the International Association of Academies of Sciences and looked into possibility of establishing a union of the Belarusian and Chinese scientists.
International Scientific Conference "Fundamental and Applied Research to Medicine" held at NASB Institute of Physiology
On 12 October 2018, the International Scientific Conference "Fundamental and Applied Research to Medicine" was held at the Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus with the support of the NASB Department of Medical Sciences and the Belarusian Society of Physiologists. It was dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the NASB Institute of Physiology.
About a hundred scientists and clinicians from research institutes, research and practical centers, educational and health care institutions from our country as well as participants from the Republic of Bulgaria, Ukraine, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Lithuania took part at the event.
Scientific reports looked into both fundamental and current applied biomedical issues of diagnosis and treatment of socially significant diseases.
Press conference on World War I as turning point in fate of Europe
2018 The press conference “The World War I as a Turning Point in the Fate of Europe and Reconstruction of Forgotten Moments of History”, dedicated to the International Scientific Conference “Belarus in Flames of the World War I” (October 25-26, 2018), was held at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus. The following participants took part in the event: Vadim Lakiza, Deputy Director for Science of the NASB Institute of History; Sergei Tretiak, Head of the Department of Modern History of Belarus of the NASB Institute of History; Mikhail Smolyaninov, Senior Researcher of the Department of Military History of Belarus of the NASB Institute of History; Anatoly Sharkov, Researcher of the Belarusian Cultural Center for Spiritual Renewal; and Irina Chikalova, Leading Researcher of the Department of Historiography and Methods of Historical Research of the NASB Institute of History.
Presentation of Belarusian-Estonian folklore cooperation outcome to be held at Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library
On 15 October, 2018, at 12:00 p.m., the outcome of the Belarusian-Estonian cooperation in folklore will be presented at the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library. In particular, two cooperative publications by scientists of the Center for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Research of the NAS of Belarus and the Estonian Literary Museum (Tartu, Estonia) will be presented. These publications are «Миссия выполнима. Перспективы изучения фольклора» ("Mission is Possible. Perspectives of Studying Folklore") (Tartu, 2018) and electronic journal «Folklore» (№ 72).
International Scientific Conference "Fundamental and Applied Research to Medicine" to be held at NAS of Belarus
On 12 October 2018, the NASB Institute of Physiology together with the Department of Medical Sciences will hold the International Scientific Conference "Fundamental and Applied Research to Medicine." The Conference will bring together specialists in different areas to discuss topical issues of uncontrolled development of hyperplastic, inflammatory, autoimmune and destructive processes, accompanied by a transition to pathological states and being attributes of socially significant diseases.
Meeting of Technical Advisory Board of NAS of Belarus and LG Electronics Inc.
On 3 October 2018, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted a meeting of the Technical Advisory Board of the NAS of Belarus and LG Electronics Inc. The event was attended by a representative delegation of specialists and experts of the LG Electronics Inc. company, headed by Dr. Jong Sang Lee, Senior Vice President of the company, Director of LG's Materials & Devices Advanced Research Institute (MDARI).
The meeting summarized the results of a joint technical seminar held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 2 October 2018. It reviewed the results of cooperation between scientific organizations of the NAS of Belarus and LG Electronics Inc. and discussed promising areas and mechanisms for developing cooperation between the partners. Representatives of scientific organizations of the Academy of Sciences made their presentations. Sergei Chizhik, First Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium, presented the medal "90th Anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" to Dr. Chong Sue Lee, Senior Vice President of LG Electronics Inc.

The Agency for Space Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus informs that according to Indira Feustel, a participant of the 31st International Congress of the Association of Space Flight Participants (Minsk, September 2018), her husband Andrew Feustel, Commander of the 56th expedition to the ISS, recorded a music video from space. He made it together with Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip.
SKIF-GEO-CDP supercomputer of NASB entered TOP 50 computing systems in CIS
A modern SKIF-GEO-CDP supercomputer of the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the NAS of Belarus entered the TOP 50 computing systems in the CIS. It was developed as part of the program of the Belarusian-Russian Union State SKIF-NEDRA. The Research Computing Center of Moscow State University and the Interdepartmental Supercomputer Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences arranged the rating.
According to the rating results, the SKIF-GEO-CDP supercomputer of the NASB UIIP ranks 37. The supercomputer is characterized by high performance, it is a worthy result of fruitful work of Russian and Belarusian specialists working on the SKIF-NEDRA project for the third consecutive year.
As Deputy Director General of the NASB United Institute of Informatics Problems Sergei Kruglikov said, «the SKIF-NEDRA R&D program of the Union State of Belarus and Russia has a clearly expressed industry specialization and is not initially aimed at setting any records in terms of the performance of computing tools. However, the correctly chosen components and technological layout of the supercomputer allowed us to enter the elite of the CIS supercomputers in spite of relatively small number of computing nodes».
NASB Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering to hold seminar as part of Medicine and Health 2018 exhibition
On 4 October 2018, the State Scientific Institution «Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus» will hold a seminar «Cell Technologies for Modern Medicine» as part of the 25th International Specialized Exhibition «Medicine and Health 2018».
The seminar will cover the application of biomedical cell products based on mesenchymal stem cells, as well as of skin fibroblasts and dendritic cells in oncology, dentistry, ophthalmology and surgery. Representatives of the NASB Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering, the Belarusian State Medical University and the Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education will make their presentations at the seminar.

As reported by NASB Agency for Space Research, crew of 56th expedition to International Space Station to leave station next week
The Agency for Space Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus informs that the crew of the 56th expedition to the International Space Station (ISS) will leave the station next week. The information came from the participants of the 31st International Congress of the Association of Space Flight Participants held in Minsk on 9–15 September, 2018.
On 3 October, Wednesday, Andrew Feustel, Commander of the 56th expedition, will hand over control of the ISS to Alexander Gerst, Commander of the 57th expedition. On 4 October, Thursday, Andrew Feustel, Oleg Artemyev, Richard R. Arnold will leave the ISS and return to Earth.
