Vice-Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei Kilin takes part in Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States

08.04.2019 On 5 April 2019, Moscow held the Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The participants discussed topical issues of collaboration.

The Council approved the draft Agreement on the coordination of interstate relations in the field of fundamental research of the CIS member states, which will be submitted to the Council of the CIS Heads of State. The Agreement aimed to determine the main directions, forms and mechanisms of interaction of the Commonwealth States in the field of fundamental research, to promote long-term and mutually beneficial scientific cooperation.

Sergei Kilin, Vice-Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, a member of the Council for Cooperation in the field of fundamental science of the Commonwealth, took part in the Meeting. Speaking on the issue of the "Draft Agreement on the Coordination of Interstate Relations in the field of Fundamental Research of the CIS Member States", Sergei Kilin noted: "At the present stage the cooperation in the field of fundamental science is of key importance for the development of research capacity in the Commonwealth countries, its conformity with socio-economic needs of the CIS members states, as well as deepening ties between research organizations. Thus, the creation of sustainable scientific ties and support for fundamental research conducted by joint research teams of the CIS member states in topical areas of modern fundamental science and ultimately increasing the efficiency of their interaction is seen as a primary task today.” Sergei Kilin stressed that the approval of the Agreement will contribute to the formation of a common scientific space and an effective mechanism of cooperation in the field of scientific activities of the CIS member states, the development of scientific and technical potential of organizations working in the field of fundamental science, the interaction of research structures and individual scientists (including young people), the improvement of financing mechanisms for interstate (multilateral) scientific projects, and therefore, improving the competitiveness of the scientific sphere of the CIS members states on the global market.

Six Commonwealth States worked on the draft Agreement on the coordination of interstate relations in the field of fundamental research of the CIS member states: the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan.
