National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Korean Institute KISTI to cooperate in information technologies

28.05.2019 On 28 May 2019, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) have signed a memorandum of cooperation in science and technology.

The document was signed by Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov and KISTI President Choi Hee-Yoon.

According to the document, Belarusian and Korean specialists intend to advance cooperation in the field of strategic planning, joint research and development, exchange of visits at the level of top officials and individual scientists, and will keep each other informed about national research projects.

Vladimir Gusakov stressed the importance of the memorandum. He said: “Today we have to convert Belarus into an IT country. It is a program for creating a modern digital economy in the Republic of Belarus. Work in the field of information technologies is a high priority for the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Therefore, the signing of the memorandum with Korean scientists will open up new prospects for our mutually beneficial cooperation."

During the meeting Chairman of the NASB Presidium talked about accomplishments of Belarusian scientists. Vladimir Gusakov singled out the development of a personal supercomputer (20 trillion operations per second) by specialists of the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. In his words, the Institute makes a significant contribution to digitizing the national healthcare system. Thus, telemedicine systems, solutions for remote consulting and diagnostics are being created for Belarusian healthcare institutions. The scientists are also developing information and query system for managing a medical institution. Digital prescriptions, computer medical charts and many other digital documents have been introduced. The scientists have created an electronic ticket for school students for the education system. The Academy of Sciences has also developed a system for the identifying and tracking animals and animal origin products, which has been integrated into the Russian system Mercury. Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov suggested setting up a joint structure to the Korean partners.

In turn, President of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Choi Hee-Yoon noted that the signing of the memorandum will be the first step to expand cooperation between Belarusian and Korean scientists in the field of information technologies.

The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) is a government-funded research institute designed to ensure maximum effectiveness of research and development efforts and provide support research and development efforts in the area of high technologies.
