National Academy of Sciences of Belarus announces winners of prizes for young scientists in 2019

On 11 December, the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus summed up the results of the competition for prizes for young scientists of the NAS of Belarus in 2019.

By decisions of the Prize Commission of the NAS of Belarus, the Alferov Prize for young scientists has been awarded to Viktor Levkovich, Head of Laboratory at the Physical-Technical Institute of the NAS of Belarus, PhD in Technical Sciences, for a series of works “Cross-helical reduction with reverse calibration for manufacturing stepped pipe blanks”; Daria Tishkevich, Senior Researcher at the Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy Sciences of Belarus on Materials Science, PhD in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, for a series of works “Optimization of electrochemical synthesis of functional materials for practical applications”.

The Academician V. F. Kuprevich Prize for young scientists has been awarded to Artem Antanovich, Senior Researcher at the B. I. Stepanov Institute of Physics of the NAS of Belarus, PhD in Chemical Sciences, for a series of works “Obtaining and studying the structure and optical properties of two-dimensional semiconductor nanocrystals of cadmium chalcogenides, heterostructures and ensembles based on them”; Vladimir Prozorovich, Research Officer at the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the NAS of Belarus, Marina Roshchina, Research Assistant (Postgraduate student) at the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the NAS of Belarus, and Justyna Sauka, Research Assistant at the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the NAS of Belarus, for a series of works “Metal oxide and metal silicate mesoporous sorbents and catalysts for water environment purification”; Tatyana Khrustaleva, Senior Researcher, Head of the group at the Institute of Physiology of the NAS of Belarus, PhD in Biological Sciences, for a series of works “Structure of binding sites of magnesium, manganese and cobalt cations on proteins and peptides”; Anna Shchayuk, Research Assistant at the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the NAS of Belarus, for a series of works “Molecular genetic bases of the pathogenesis of non-small cell lung cancer in patients living in Belarus”.

The Academician V. M. Ignatovsky Prize for young scientists has been awarded to Elena Izergina, Research Assistant at the Center for Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Research of the NAS of Belarus, for a series of works “Ethnic and cultural characteristics of Belarusians in Lithuania (late 19th and early 21st century)”.

Prizes for young scientists were established in 2019 to support and encourage talented young scientists working in the organizations of the NAS of Belarus. The system of awards for young scientists includes three nominal prizes: the Alferov Prize in the field of physics, mathematics, computer science, physical and technical sciences (2 awards); the Academician V. F. Kuprevich Prize in the field of biology, chemistry and Earth sciences, medicine, agricultural sciences (4 awards); and the Academician V. M. Ignatovsky Prize in the field of humanities and social sciences (1 award). Thus, there are 7 prizes of 100 basic units each. In total, 24 works by young scientists working at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus were submitted for the competition.
