Case-study on soils in Belarus is prepared by NASB scientists

The monograph “Soils of the Republic of Belarus” has been prepared by a group of authors from the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the NAS of Belarus under the general editorship of Academician Vitaly Lapa. The unique scientific work, with a volume of 632 pages, includes 9 chapters and 38 sub-chapters and sub-paragraphs, contains 336 tables, 166 photos, and 89 drawings. The monograph was published in December 2019 by the results of the fundamental soil research program. The book is intended for specialists in the field of soil science, agrochemistry, agriculture, ecology, land reclamation, and land management.

The monograph “Soils of the Republic of Belarus” presents systematic knowledge on actual indicators of agroecological state and vector of a spatial-temporal transformation of the structure, composition and properties of soils in Belarus obtained from soil sections laid down on the main soil varieties, scientific research, large-scale soil mapping and land assessment work.

The book provides evaluation results of the regional features of the transformation of the structure, composition and properties of the most common types of soils of agricultural lands of the republic, taking into account the genesis, moisture content, and structure of soil-forming and underlying rocks influenced by anthropogenic factors for more than 40 years since the publication of the scientific work “Soils of the Belarusian SSR” (1974).
