Vice-Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei Kilin holds talks with Japanese business delegation
On December 3, 2015 Vice-Chairman of Presidium, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Sergei Kilin held negotiations with head of sales department, Toshin Kogyo Ltd. (Japan), Ishii Takanori and advisor at Nomura Research Institute (Japan) D.Trufanov.
During the negotiations the parties discussed perspective areas and mechanisms of cooperation.
NAS of Belarus hosts round-table discussions dedicated to 50th anniversary of NASB Council of Young Scientists
Within the framework of the YES-Forum the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted round-table discussions dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the NASB Council of Young Scientists as well as the presentation of the book “Youth in science – 50 years of successful work”. The discussions involved Vice-Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei Kilin, Chairman of Council of Young Scientists Andrei Ivanets, Chairmen of Young Scientists Councils of the Academies of Sciences of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
NASB Academician Igor Volotovsky, one of the first chairmen of the NASB Council of Young Scientists shared his memories of the establishment and operation of young scientists organizations back in the past.
First Young Eurasian Scientist Forum opens at NAS of Belarus
Around 500 young scientists from Belarus, Kazakhastan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Turkey, Germany (total 12 countries) are participating in the First Young Eurasian Scientist Forum (YES-Forum).
Chairman of Presidium, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Vladimir Gusakov expressed hope that the Forum would serve as a good platform for communication between young generation scientists: “Young people are communicating, sharing their ideas, making contacts, planning on future projects and areas of cooperation”.
Chairman of NASB Council of Young Scientists Andrei Ivanets said: “A peculiar feature of our event is that all the projects presented here are joint ones. These are the biggest innovation projects, many of them have already been implemented”.
NASB Chief Scientific Secretary Alexander Kilchevsky holds talks with President of European Biotechnology Thematic Network Association Munis Dundar
The Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Kilchevsky has held talks with the President of the European Biotechnology Thematic Network Association (EBTNA) Munis Dundar. The meeting also involved Academician-Secretary of the NASB Department of Biological Sciences Mikhail Nikiforov, Director of the Institute of Genetics and Cytology Valentina Lemesh, Director of the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering Liudmila Dubovskaya. During the meeting the parties discussed the aspects of arranging Belarusian researchers’ publications in foreign journals, hosting lectures by foreign scientists in Belarus, organizing joint scientific events.
National Academies of Sciences of Belarus and Azerbaijan sign Agreement for cooperation
On November 28, 2015 the National Academies of Sciences of Belarus and Azerbaijan, the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research and the Science Development Foundation under the President of Azerbaijan signed an Agreement for cooperation. The document was signed in the presence of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.
Also, the Agreement for social and economic cooperation between Belarus and Azerbaijan till 2025 and other documents were signed. According to Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, the implementation of the signed documents will contribute to further broadening of mutually beneficial Belarus-Azerbaijan relations in political, economic, scientific-technical and humanitarian collaboration. Summing up the results of the negotiations with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, Belarus President noted that the parties had determined new areas of cooperation in information technology, nano-, biotechnology, defense industry, scientific research.
NAS of Belarus to host first Young Eurasian Scientist Forum (YES-Forum)
On December 1-4, 2015 the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will host the first Young Eurasian Scientist Forum (YES-Forum). The Forum will become one of the largest scientific events held in Belarus in the Year of Youth. Within the framework of the Forum the 12th international scientific conference of young scientists “Youth in Science 2015” will be held. Minsk is expected to host around 100 delegates from 12 countries: the CIS countries, Turkey, Germany, Slovakia.
It is expected that during the Forum the biggest international and interdisciplinary projects implemented with participation of young scientists will be presented. Also, the Forum will include round-table discussions dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the NASB Council of Young Scientists involving Chairmen of the Councils of Young Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia and the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – the Leader of the Nation. On account of the anniversary the thematic collection is to be presented. The program of the event includes thematic round-table discussions, workshops and foresight seminars.
Joint session of Presidiums of NAS of Belarus and RAS Siberian Branch takes place
On November 26, 2015 a joint session of the Presidiums of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences was held at the NAS of Belarus. The event involved a large delegation of researchers from Siberia. Before the meeting Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov and Chairman of RAS Siberian Branch Alexander Aseev presented the 2015 V.A.Koptyug Prize winners on the Belarusian side with winner’s certificates.
The focus of the joint session was the state and prospects of development of cooperation between the NAS of Belarus and the RAS Siberian Branch. Vice-Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei Kilin and Chairman of RAS Siberian Branch Alexander Aseev made reports on the mentioned topic. The event also included reports on the joint activities.
3rd meeting of work group for joint innovation projects with Azerbaijan delegation being held at NAS of Belarus
The meeting of the work group for joint innovation projects with Azerbaijan delegation chaired by Academician-Secretary of NASB Department Physics, Mathematics and Informatics Valentin Orlovich is being held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The parties are to discuss the work program of the next meeting. The Azerbaijan delegation includes experts in physics, medicine, education and high technology. The Belarusian side involves Belarus Ambassador to Azerbaijan Gennady Akhramovich, representatives of the Ministry of Education and the scientific institutions of the NAS of Belarus.
Tomorrow the Azerbaijan delegates are to visit several organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, such as the United Institute of Informatics Problems, B.I.Stepanov Institute of Physics, Physical Engineering Institute, Institute of Chemistry of New Materials, Academpharm Enterprise.
Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov holds talks with RAS Siberian Branch delegation headed by Alexander Aseev
On November 25, 2015 Chairman of Presidium, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Vladimir Gusakov held talks with the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences delegation headed by Chairman of Siberian Branch Alexander Aseev. The parties exchanged their proposals concerning further development of cooperation. In particular, the Siberian colleagues expressed their interest in closer cooperation in the area of chemical synthesis, new materials, biotechnology engineering, production of pharmaceuticals and agricultural fertilizers. The Belarusian party expressed their special interest towards their colleagues’ experience in advanced processing of oil and related products.
Director of B.I.Stepanov Insitute of Physics Nikolai Kazak mentioned a number of projects, under which Belarusian scientists could collaborate with the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, that is radiophotonics, growing semiconductor structures, microwave electronics, piezoelectric elements, laser medicine and electronics, lidars, materials, metamaterials.
Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov meets with President of Estonian Academy of Sciences Tarmo Soomere
On November 25, 2015 Chairman of Presidium, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Vladimir Gusakov met with the President of the Estonian Academy of Sciences Tarmo Soomere. During the meeting the parties exchanged their proposals regarding further development of cooperation. In particular, President of the Estonian Academy expressed his interest in closer collaboration with Belarusian scientists in the areas of physics, mathematics, materials research, mechanical engineering. As far as Estonian scientists are concerned, they have made considerable progress in microbiology, astronomy, physics, anthropology, culture studies.
Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov meets with Director of Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) Viktor Matveev
On November 19, 2015 Chairman of Presidium, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Vladimir Gusakov met with the Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) Viktor Matveev. The meeting of held as part of the session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of JINR member states as well as the meeting of the JINR Finance Committee. During the meeting the perspective areas and mechanisms of cooperation were discussed.
As Vice-Chairman of the NASB Presidium Sergei Kilin said before the meeting, Belarusian researchers would be discussing the possibility of participation in new projects at the Large Hadron Collider. According to him, Belarusian science works in a range of areas: high energy physics, solid state physics, including elements of microelectronics and microtechnology.
Cuba delegation visits NAS of Belarus
On October 17, 2015 the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted the Cuban Academy of Sciences delegation headed by Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart, Science Advisor for the State Council of the Republic of Cuba, Vice-President of the Cuban Academy of Sciences. President of NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov held a meeting with the delegation. During the negotiations the parties discussed the perspective areas and mechanisms of Belarus-Cuba cooperation. The meeting also involved the Ambassador of Cuba to Belarus Gerardo Suarez Alvarez as well as the directors of the NASB research institutions.
The Cuba delegates attended the Museum of the History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the NASB permanent exhibition displaying the achievements of Belarusian science and paid a visit to the NASB United Institute of Informatics Problems.
2nd international scientific conference “Intellectual culture of Belarus: knowledge management within the framework of social and economic modernization tasks” opens at NASB Institute of Philosophy
Opening the scientific conference the Academician-Secretary of the Department of the Humanities and Arts, Corresponding Member Alexander Kovalenya noted that the scientific forum would contribute to a better understanding of the modern culture of the Belarusian nation as a basis for developing an understanding of vectors of socio-economic, spiritual and cultural development of our country.
A peculiarity of this year’s forum was the shift from theoretical aspects to the problems of practical research. To this end not only scientists, but also knowledge management practitioners, experts and business leaders, representatives of the education system institutions were invited to participate in the conference.
Today, according to Alexander Kovalenya, knowledge management becomes the leading factor in modernization. Improving the competitiveness of enterprises in Belarus cannot be achieved solely by strengthening the capacity of scientific and technical equipment. The Increasing intellectual capital and improving competencies should play a special role in these processes, said the Academician-Secretary. Also, Alexander Kovalenya expressed the hope that this forum would become an annual event and would be held on the eve of World Philosophy Day.
Wetlands use to be discussed by experts from Germany, Belarus and Russia at NAS of Belarus on November 16, 2015
On November 16, 2015 the NASB Scientific and Practical Centre for Bioresources in cooperation with the Michael Succow Foundation for the Protection of Nature (Germany) will hold the international scientific workshop “The use of biomass and balance of greenhouse gases from natural and re-waterlogged lowland wetlands”.
The workshop will involve the leading scientists and experts in the area of wetland ecosystems sustainable management from the leading research centers and universities of Germany, Czech Republic, Russia and Belarus.
The event seeks to provide a platform for scientific community to discuss and share experience in wetland ecosystems sustainable use, assessment of greenhouse gases emission from wetlands and drained peatlands, use of wetland vegetation for biofuel and industrial raw materials. The workshop will put special emphasis on implementing in Belarus the paludiculture concept (using rewetted peatlands biomass for energy and raw materials) as an economically and environmentally better alternative to wetland ecosystems drainage.
Physics of shock waves, combustion and detonation discussed during 4th Minsk international colloquium at A.V.Luikov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute
The 4th Minsk international colloquium held at the NASB A.V.Luikov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute on November 9-12, 2015 focused on such important topics as dynamics, transport and elementary processes in systems involving shock waves, chemical and phase transformations as well as physical kinetics, heat transfer and transport processes at the micro- and nanoscale. The reports also dealt with the mechanics of liquids, gases and plasma.

Public lecture on dark energy nature to be given by famous Russian scientist at NAS of Belarus
Why does the universe have matter and does not have antimatter? How varied is the finite lifetime of black holes? What do we expect from elementary particle physics in the next ten years? These and other questions will be answered at a public lecture by Valery Rubakov, one of the world’s leading experts in the area of quantum field theory, elementary particle physics and cosmology, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The lecture will focus on the most fascinating mysteries of the universe: dark matter and dark energy.
The event will take place at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on November 13, 2015.
Chief Scientific Secretary Alexander Kilchevsky makes a report at Azerbaijan NAS Genetic Resources Institute
The NASB Chief Scientific Secretary Alexander Kilchevsky has visited the Institute of Genetic Resources, Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, where he met Director of the Institute, ANAS Corresponding Member Zeynal Akparov. The meeting was held within the framework of the 70th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences celebrations.
Zeynal Akparov told Alexander Kilchevsky about the history of establishment and structure of the institute, its research activities, the achievements of the institute’s scientists as well as the projects implemented in cooperation with Belarusian institutes.
Alexander Kilchevsky expressed his gratitude for the hospitality and long-standing cooperation, told about the improvements in the material and technical basis of the research institutions of Belarus, in particular, the NASB Institute of Genetics and Cytology, as well as about new modern laboratories being established and the research being conducted. Alexander Kilchevsky put special emphasis on the research activities being carried out using new generation sequencers at the NASB institutes and the ANAS Genetic Resources Institute. Also the possibilities of collaboration in the area of complex and comparative research and efficient use of genetic resources in breeding were discussed during the meeting.
14th international conference “Development of informatization and the state system of scientific and technical information” to be held at NASB United Institute of Informatics Problems on November 19, 2015
The annual conference "Development of informatization and the state system of scientific and technical information" will be held by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus with participation of the State Committee on Science and Technology and other institutions and organizations, and will focus on the analysis of the status and problems of development of informatization and the state system of scientific and technical information in the Republic of Belarus, development of new approaches to scientific and methodological support for informatization development, information and communication technologies and information infrastructure of Belarus, implementation of the Strategy for Information Society Development in Belarus.

On November 12-13, 2015 the Institute of Philosophy, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, will hold the second international scientific conference “Intellectual culture of Belarus: knowledge management within the framework of social and economic modernization tasks”.
It is expected that the conference will involve experts from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Lithuania and Poland and other countries, government agencies representatives, diplomats, business executives, experts at large Belarusian innovation companies and education specialists, the leading philosophy scientists, methodologists, sociologists, economists and young researchers.

Deputy Chairman of Presidium, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Sergei Kilin takes part in 7th World Science Forum
Deputy Chairman of Presidium, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Sergei Kilin has participated in the 7th World Science Forum, which took place in Budapest on November 4-7, 2015. The forum was organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Council for Science (ICSU), the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC).
The forum is held biannually and acts as a platform to exchange experience and knowledge between science community and public. This year’s event focused on the theme “The Enabling Power of Science”. The event gathered about 900 participants from more than 100 countries. At the opening ceremony the participants were welcomed by President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Laszlo Lovasz and Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, among the speakers there were many representatives of civil society and policy-makers engaged in developing science and education policies.
Deputy Chairman of NASB Presidium took part in the forum and held negotiations on development of collaboration between the NAS of Belarus and other scientific institutions. Now an agreement for strengthening the cooperation between the NAS of Belarus and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences is being prepared.
