Four projects of NAS of Belarus won the contest “100 Ideas for Belarus”
The final stage of the national youth contest “100 Ideas for Belarus” considering the results of the year 2015, which for the first time was held in the format of “Technologies Show: An Exhibition of Youth Innovations”, was completed at the National Exhibition Center Belexpo.
The Public Association “Belarusian Republican Youth Union” is the organizer of the contest. The contest selects the best projects in different fields, which can be useful for society, and serves to enhance innovative thinking of young people, involve them in solving problems of Belarus social and economic development, promote civil initiatives to implementation of innovation projects and scientific and technological developments.
Belarus President presented Doctor of Science diplomas to six representatives of NAS of Belarus organizations
The President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko presented Doctor of Science diplomas and Professor Certificates at the ceremony on 12 February. Among the awardees there were six representatives of the NAS of Belarus organizations who were presented Doctor of Science diplomas.
Publishing House “Belarusian Science” awarded a first degree diploma of the National Contest “Book Art-2016”
15.02.2016 The Publishing House "Belarusian Science" was awarded a first degree diploma and a Small Golden Folio sign in nomination “Eureka” (scientific, popular science publications) for the publication of the book series "The Traditional Way of Life" at the 55th National Contest “Book Art-2016”. The award was received by the Chief Editor of the Publishing House Georgy K. Kiselyov.
The series includes the following books: Folk Architecture by A. Lakotka; “Jadranoje zyta haspadara klicha…” Сalendar Year in Rites and Customs by T. Valodzina and T. Kukharonak; Folk Arts by J. Sakhuta; Sciezkami Dziadou: People's Way of Life of Belarusians by S. Barys.
NAS of Belarus and Pakistan Academy of Letters agree on cooperation
On February 12, 2016 under the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of scientific cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Pakistan Academy of Letters a meeting of leaders and staff of the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literature and the chairman of the Pakistan Academy of Letters Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qasim Bughio and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Belarus Masood Khan Raja was held at the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literature.
The sides exchanged information on the structure and activities of the Pakistan Academy of Letters and the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, discussed plans for cooperation, exchange of scientific and fiction literature, the selection of works of classical and contemporary literature for translation into the languages of Pakistan and Belarus. The Ambassador of the Republic of Pakistan Masood Khan Raja said, “It is very important for international relations when scientists of two countries know each other, because the officials, the bureaucracy, the policy may change over time, but when there is a literary touch it remains at all times and creates the basis for a strong relationship and understanding.”
NASB organizations participate in the 23rd Minsk International Book Fair
12.02.2016 The Publishing House "Belarusian Science" and the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of NAS of Belarus take part in the 23rd Minsk International Book Fair. The Publishing House "Belarusian Science" presented books of a new series "The Traditional Way of Life" authored by NASB ethnographers and art critics. According to the director of the Publishing House Alexander Stashkevich, the series reveals all aspects of the Belarusian people life, namely ceremonies, crafts, food, creativity in different directions. For the current year publication of two more books is planned in this series. Besides that there were other editions of the Publishing House presented at the exhibition. A separate presentation was dedicated to the third edition of the book "Belarusian Folk Costume".
NAS of Belarus 5 organizations taking part in the 22nd International Exhibition and Congress "High Technologies. Innovations. Investments» (HI-TECH'2016)
At the 22nd International Exhibition and Congress «High Technologies. Innovations. Investments» (HI-TECH'2016), which will be held on March 15-17, 2016 in St. Petersburg (Russian Federation) the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will represent exhibits that demonstrate scientific developments and innovation projects in the areas of energy saving, equipment and engineering technologies, instrumentation engineering, metallurgy technologies, electrical equipment, control systems, new chemical materials and products. As part of the HI-TECH'2016 there will be a complex of business events: «Hi-Tech Day» and the competition «The Best Innovative Project and the Best Scientific and Technical Development of the Year» (hereinafter - Competition). The purpose of the Competition is to intensify the activities of enterprises in the field of innovative technologies, to find out promising innovative projects and developments, as well as to facilitate their promotion on domestic and foreign markets.
The Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the NASB will host a press event devoted to the development of innovative gene geographic and genomic technologies in the framework of the Union State
An offsite press event devoted to implementation of the Union State program "The development of innovative gene geographic and genomic technologies of identification of a person and individual characteristics of a person based on the study of gene pools of different regions of the Union State" will be held on Thursday, February 11, at 10.00 am. Contest for the best philosophical work among students and undergraduates is announced on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Institute of Philosophy of the NAS of Belarus
The Institute of Philosophy of the NAS of Belarus announces the Republican contest for philosophical works (essays) for young researchers. The contest invites students and undergraduates of higher education institutions and the Researchers Training Institute of the NASB of all specialties to participate in it. Organizers expect from the participants historical and philosophical studies, creative ideas in the field of social philosophy, science and technology philosophy, philosophy of culture and ask to share their vision of the place and role of philosophical knowledge in structural transformations of modern society at both national and global levels. Winners will be awarded with diplomas, gifts and the right to publish their work in scientific publications of the Institute of Philosophy. I congratulate you on your professional holiday - the Belarusian Science Day. Today knowledge has an important role for the formation of a competitive economy and improving people’s quality of life. The development of education and science is the key to independence and sovereignty of the state, raising cultural, intellectual and spiritual levels of the nation. Therefore in our country a lot of attention is given to preservation and strengthening of national scientific schools, the implementation of efficient developments. We rely on strong scientific and technical human resources that are justly the subject of our pride. Achievements of the Belarusian scientists receive international recognition and enhance the country's prestige on an international stage. But the main thing is that they bring a visible benefit to society.
Vladimir Gusakov took part in a press conference dedicated to the Belarusian Science Day
On January 28, 2016 a press conference dedicated to the Belarusian Science Day was held at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus. The Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov, the Minister of Education of Belarus Mikhail Zhuravkov, the Chairman of SCST Alexander Shumilin, the Head of the Chief Department of Innovation and Investment Activity at the Ministry of Industry Valery Fishman and the Head of the Science Department at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus Vasily Filonjuk participated in the press conference.
The Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov informed the journalists about top-10 and top-100 of fundamental researches in 2015 and shared plans of the Academy for the year 2016. In particular, he announced that the creation of a new Earth remote sensing satellite would be started, a series of fundamentally new unmanned aerial vehicles and a series of supercomputers would be created. In addition, polar researches are expected to become a real breakthrough.
The best fundamental researches of the Academy will be presented at the exhibition of the most significant achievements of scientific, technical and innovative activities in Belarus, which opens on January 29, 2016 in the National Academy of Sciences during the celebration of the Belarusian Science Day. The celebrations will be held under the slogan "Science for the Knowledge Economy".
NASB participates actively in the Year of Culture in the Republic of Belarus
The Council of Ministers approved the Republican activities plan for the Year of Culture which is to be held in 2016.
The plan includes 121 points on basic directions of state cultural policy in Belarus. The National Academy of Sciences is appointed responsible for the following activities:
• development of bases of state cultural policy;
• a complex study on the development of culture and the presentation of the results at international events;
• sociological research on the culture, literature and reading;
• widening the use of the Belarusian language.
Belarus President scholarships awarded to 16 NASB graduate students
President Alexander Lukashenko has signed an executive order No. 17рп "On awarding scholarships to graduate students". Scholarships of the President of Belarus in 2016 have been awarded to 82 graduate students. Among them are 16 representatives of scientific institutions and organizations of the NASB. These are talented young graduate students doing thesis research in priority scientific and technical areas. Many of them are holders of the certificates confirming the application of the achieved results in the manufacturing industry, clinical practice of healthcare institutions, educational process, patents for inventions and utility models or approvals for a patent. The scientific achievements of the scholarship holders will be used by enterprises, organizations and social institutions across the country.
The adoption of the executive order No. 17рп is a testament of the support of talented young scientists and development of the scientific potential of Belarus.
In honor of the Science Day the first object of the Belarusian Antarctic station has been established
Before the Belarusian Science Day polar explorers established the first object of the Belarusian Antarctic station - three-section laboratory and living module. This was reported to the NASB leadership by the head of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition Alexei Gaidashov. The personnel of BAS finished engineering activities for the commissioning of the first object of the Belarusian Antarctic station and proceeded to carry out research programs. Three-section specialized module is built to provide decent living and research conditions in the place of our expedition location in East Antarctica.

On January 27, 2016 100th anniversary of the corresponding member V.I. Nefedov is celebrated (1916-1999). V.I. Nefedov is known as a specialist in drama study, playwrite, professor (1964), Honored Artist of the BSSR (1975), the BSSR State Prize laureate (1966).

The NAS of Belarus held a meeting with representatives of Japan Tobacco Inc.
On January 27, 2016 the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus held a meeting with Japan Tobacco Inc. (Tokyo, Japan) delegation. The purpose of the delegation's visit - negotiations to expand the Belarusian-Japanese cooperation.
At the negotiations the NASB side was headed by the First Vice Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei A. Chizhik.
