Special stamp cancellation for Year of Science in Belarus’2017 held
The Ministry of Communications and Informatization of Belarus issued a postage stamp "2017 – Year of Science in Belarus". On November 13, a solemn cancellation of the stamp was held. It was attended by Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology; Sergei Chizhik, First Deputy Chairman of the NASB Presidium; and Anna Ryabova, Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization.
The stamp circulation is 54,000 copies. It was printed by the Republican Unitary Enterprise Belarusian Printing House, publishing house. The project was prepared in cooperation with the State Committee for Science and Technology.

The press conference "Year of Science – for Economy. Development and implementation of innovative materials and technologies by the NASB scientists" was held at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus. The press conference was attended by: Alexander F. Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library invites to opening of exhibition dedicated to 500th anniversary of Reformation
On 10 November, which is the birthday of Martin Luther, the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library invites to opening of the "Sola Fide" exhibition dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Reformation (1517–2017). The exhibition opening is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The library repositories have a rich and multifaceted book material devoted to the Reformation, ranging from the lifetime editions of Martin Luther, Erasmus of Rotterdam, Jan Seklutsian to modern scientists researches. The Brest (Radziwill) Bible, published in 1563 at the expense of Mikalaj Radzivil Čorny, will also be presented to the guests. The translation of the Bible was made by supporters of Calvinism. It was intended for the needs of the reformation movement in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Poland.
16th International Conference "Development of Informatization and State System of Scientific and Technical Information (DISTI’2017)" to be held at NASB United Institute of Informatics Problems
On 16 November 2017, the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the NAS of Belarus (vul. Surhanava 6) will host a conference to consider such issues as development prospects of informatization, the state system of scientific and technical information in Belarus, the information society, the concept of the electronic state formation in the republic, the main directions and technologies of the digital transformation of the economy. The reports will also discuss the design and implementation of automated systems of scientific and technical information; information support systems for scientific, technical and innovative activities in organizations, ministries and various sectors of the economy, including the creation of corporate automated library and information systems and technologies; psychological aspects in informatization.

International Round Table Discussion, dedicated to 95th anniversary of Institute of Belarusian Culture, to start on November 10
On November 10, at 10:00 a.m., an International Round Table Discussion, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the Institute of Belarusian Culture, will start its work in a reading room of the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts of the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The purpose of the event is to summarize the Institute of Belarusian Culture development, to understand its significance for the history of the BSSR and the sovereign Republic of Belarus, to discuss problems in studying the history of Belarusian science and prospects for further development.
NAS of Belarus to give solemn start of tenth Belarusian Antarctic Expedition
On 8 November 2017, at 5:00 p.m., the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will host a meeting of participants of the Belarusian Antarctic expeditions with the general public. The meeting and a public lecture "Belarus: 10 Years in Antarctic" will be held in the NASB Institute of History by the following address: Minsk, vul. Akademičnaja 1, the Assembly Hall. All interested can take part in the event which is dedicated to the start of the tenth Belarusian Antarctic Expedition. The lecture will be held within the framework of the "Science Out of Itself" project aimed at popularizing the scientific knowledge and activities of Belarusian scientists and specialists. During the event, listeners will learn about the history of the Belarusian Antarctic expeditions and the contribution of Belarusian scientists to the research of the South Pole. Issues of international cooperation and construction of the Belarusian Antarctic station will be touched upon, also the results of our specialists activities will be reported and further prospects will be outlined. A film about the work of the ninth Belarusian Antarctic Expedition will provide information about the current state of affairs on the Antarctic exploration. The participants of the meeting will have an opportunity to see unique photos capturing the nature of the Antarctic, as well as working moments from the life of Belarusian polar explorers. It will be possible to obtain first-hand information in such areas as atmospheric physics, biology, ecology, global climate change problems, geophysics, geology, life support and logistics of polar expeditions.
Public lecture “From Dream to Reality or How Materials of the Future are Created” to be held at NAS of Belarus
The NAS of Belarus continues the tradition to organize lectures on topical scientific problems by leading scientists of the world's scientific centers. On 10 November 2017, at 2:00 p.m., a public lecture “From Dream to Reality or How Materials of the Future are Created” will be held at the NAS of Belarus (Minsk, praspiekt Niezaliežnasci 66). Artyom Oganov, a scientist who is well-known in the world, a talented science popularizer, will talk about the possibility of theoretical prediction of the crystal structure of matter and its chemical composition, and also of creation of new materials possessing specified properties with the help of the USPEX revolutionary algorithm.
Meeting with representatives of media at Institute of Genetics and Cytology on November 10, 2017
On 10 November 2017, at 10:00 a.m., the NASB Institute of Genetics and Cytology will host a meeting with representatives of media devoted to issues of genomic biotechnologies for the agro-industrial complex (crop production). The results of scientific and practical activities on the use of modern biotechnologies in plant growing, namely, in creation of new triticale and potato varieties, which are economically important agricultural crops for the Republic of Belarus, will be presented in popular scientific form.
Chairman of NASB Presidium participates in meeting of Council of Ministers Presidium
On 31 October 2017, the draft document of the "Science and Technology: 2018-2040" strategy was considered at the meeting of the Council of Ministers Presidium. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrey Kobyakov chaired the meeting. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus developed the project, taking into account comments and proposals received from the Council of the Republic, the Administration of the President, government bodies, and scientific institutions and organizations. The "Science and Technology: 2018-2040" strategy is being developed on the eve of the 2nd Congress of Belarusian scientists, and aims to become one of the key events of the Year of Science. The document sets priorities of the scientific and technological development of Belarus for the long term.
Role of October Revolution in Belarusian statehood destinies to be discussed at NASB Institute of History
On 2 November 2017, at 10:00 a.m., the International Scientific Conference on the role of the October Revolution in Belarusian statehood destinies will be opened at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (Minsk, vul. Akademičnaja 1, the Conference Hall). The Conference will be attended by representatives of the academic and high school science, public figures, youth and specialists from Belarus and foreign countries.

NASB Council of Young Scientists holds 14th International Scientific Conference for Young Scientists
On 30 October – 2 November 2017, the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus holds the 14th International Scientific Conference for Young Scientists “Youth in Science 2.0’17.” The format of this well-known and well-established conference has been modernized in order to strengthen the cooperative effect of the development of horizontal links between young scientists from Belarus and other countries.
Presentation of 37-volumed "Historical Dictionary of the Belarusian Language" to be held on October 26, 2017
On 26 October 2017, at 10:30 a.m., a presentation of the 37-volumed "Historical Dictionary of the Belarusian Language" will be held in a small conference hall of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (room 216). The Dictionary was compiled at the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics of the NAS of Belarus in 1982–2017.
The "Historical Dictionary of the Belarusian Language" is the only reference book in national humanities, which reflects the richness of the Belarusian language vocabulary of the 14th-18th centuries as full as possible. It is a reliable source of information about the past of Belarus. The Dictionary also contains the richest information about the social and economic life, material and spiritual culture of the Belarusian people in this historical period. More than 75,000 words from chronicles, chronographs, military and knightly novels, memoirs, scientific and religious works, and many other written historical sources have been recorded in the Dictionary.
International Scientific Congress "Science for the Knowledge Economy" to start its work on October 26, 2017
In the framework of the Year of Science in the Republic of Belarus, the Institute of Economics together with the Center for System Analysis and Strategic Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus organize the International Scientific Congress "Science for the Knowledge Economy", which will be held on October 26-27, 2017.

On 25 October 2017, at 3:00 p.m., a round-table discussion on problems of male health and their solution will be held at the Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (vul. Solemn opening of Seventh Belarusian Space Congress takes place at NAS of Belarus
On 24 October 2017, a solemn opening of the Seventh Belarusian Space Congress took place at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. It was organized by the NAS of Belarus and the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the NAS of Belarus.
On 24-26 October, more than 120 reports of scientists and specialists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and a number of other countries are to be presented.
Alexander Beletsky, Corresponding Member of NASB, awarded with the Certificate of Honor of Council of Ministers of Republic of Belarus
In accordance with the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus No. 771 of 13 October 2017, Alexander Beletsky, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, was awarded with the Certificate of Honor of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus. The Certificate was awarded "for many years of fruitful work, high professionalism, significant personal contribution to the introduction of new effective methods of diagnostics and treatment." The Resolution was signed by A. Kobyakov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus.

First Belarusian Congress of Philosophy completes its work
On 18-20 October 2017, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted the First Belarusian Congress of Philosophy "National Philosophy in Global World." The forum was timed to the Year of Science and became the largest event in the field of philosophical sciences and related social and humanitarian disciplines in the history of independent Belarus. More than 680 delegates from 25 countries, including all the EAEU states, countries of Europe, Asia and America participated in it.
