Belarus Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov attends trade fair of Belarusian science achievements and meets with scientific community
On September 4, 2015 Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov held a meeting with the representatives of scientific community. Following the results of the meeting Andrei Kobyakov instructed the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to accelerate the development of the bylaw for establishment of the BelBiograd park.
Before the meeting Andrei Kobyakov attended the trade fair showcasing the achievements of Belarusian science, including the stands of the NASB Scientific and Practical Centres for arable farming, potato, fruit and vegetable farming, for animal breeding. Moreover, the Belarusian Prime Minister instructed the NAS of Belarus to consider the issues related to Road M-1 illumination using Belarusian LED technologies as well as increased funding for science and research by means of budget expenses optimization.
Head of Belarus President Administration Alexander Kosinets visits trade fair of Belarusian academic science achievements
On September 3, 2015 Head of the Belarus President Administration visited the trade fair showcasing the achievements of Belarusian academic science. During his visit Alexander Kosinets was introduced to the latest scientific achievements of the NAS of Belarus and held a range of constructive dialogues with the representatives of scientific community from a variety of areas in order to intensify the economic element of the scientific and production activities.
Trade fair showcasing achievements of Belarusian academic science opens at NAS of Belarus
Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of Presidium, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, inaugurated the trade fair of the achievements of Belarusian academic science. At the inauguration Vladimir Gusakov noted that NAS of Belarus has the tasks to integrate into the economy, work for the economy and secure the innovation development and scientific-technical progress of the country. Tasks, which are being successfully accomplished. The fair showcases over 500 innovation and scientific developments. The fair will last till September 4.
Strengthening relations with China
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has signed Directive No. 5 “Concerning the development of bilateral relations between the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China” dated August 31, 2015. The document was published on the National Legal Internet Portal of the Republic of Belarus, informs BelTA.
According to the document, “the basis of the Belarusian-Chinese cooperation is mutual resolute support on the issues regarding the vital interests of the two countries such as sovereignty, territorial integrity, security and economic development.”
Institute of History hosts Republican Panel “Belarus-UN: together for 70 years”
On account of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations Organization, one of the founding countries of which is Belarus, on August 27, 2015 the Centre of Geopolitics History of the NASB Institute of History, the History Department of Belarusian State Pedagogy University named after Maxim Tank in cooperation with the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus organized the Republican Panel “Belarus-UN: together for 70 years”.
The event involved the Academician-Secretary of NASB Department of the Humanities and Arts, Head of the Centre of Geopolitics History of the NASB Institute of History, Corresponding Member Alexander A. Kovalenya, experts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, UN Mission in Belarus, researcher of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, international relations experts the leading Belarusian universities as well as representatives of a range of Belarusian state agencies engaged in implementing projects in the major areas of activities of the UN and its institutions.
VNIIEM Corporation and NAS of Belarus sign Agreement for creating Earth remote sensing craft
VNIIEM Corporation and NAS of Belarus have signed an Agreement for development and further operation of a high resolution Earth remote sensing craft called BKA-2.
The document was signed by Director General, VNIIEM Corporation Leonid Makridenko and Head of NASB Directorate Pyotr Vityaz.
Earlier Russia and Belarus had established a joint Russian and Belarusian infrastructure for controlling Belarusian (BKA) and Russian (KANOPUS-V) spacecraft as well as a system for receiving and processing the data sent by them.
UAE Space Agency delegation visits NAS of Belarus
On August 24, 2015 Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov met with the delegation of the United Arab Emirates Space Agency. The delegation arrived in Belarus to hold negotiations with the NASB leaders about the mechanisms and prospects of promotion of scientific cooperation in the field of space technologies. As Vladimir Gusakov stressed during the meeting, Belarus is interested in collaborating with the UAE in the space sector.
Director General, UAE Space Agency also noted that in the longer term the United Arab Emirates view Belarus as a partner for research of Mars.
The delegates from the UAE visited the State Enterprise “Geoinformation Systems” of NAS of Belarus as well as JSC “Peleng”.
NAS of Belarus Foreign Member Zhores Alferov: “The country has preserved and develops science”
On August 24, 2015 Zhores Alferov, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Saint-Petersburg Research Centre of the RAS, Foreign Member of NASB, Nobel Prize Laureate met with the teachers and students of Vitebsk State Technological University. Deputy Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei Kilin also participated in the event.
As Zhores Alferov stressed during the meeting: “Belarus is the only post-Soviet state, which has fully preserved the achievements of the Soviet Union in the social sphere. And the main thing is that the country has preserved and develops industry, agriculture and science”. Zhores Alferov also said that he was glad that due to the state policies the Academy of Sciences had been preserved, which is the core of Belarusian science and which needs to be developed.
Delegation of Harbin Department of Science and Technology (China) visits NAS of Belarus
On August 21, 2015 the delegation of the Department of Science and Technology of Harbin (China) visited NAS of Belarus upon the invitation of the NASB leaders to discuss advanced areas and mechanisms of cooperation as well as the question of China representatives’ participation in the China Products High Technology and Innovation Expo to be held in Minsk on October 13-16, 2015. The Belarusian delegation was headed by Vice-Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei Chizhik.
The Chinese guests told that currently 133 technological parks operate in the country, which are engaged in new technology research. It is expected that the delegation, which will come to Minsk to participate in the Expo, will involve over 50 people among whom will be the Mayor of Harbin.
Leaders of NAS of Belarus hold negotiations with LG Electronics delegation
On August 13, 2015 the LG Electronics delegation visited NAS of Belarus. The Korean guests held negotiations with the leaders of the Academy. The Academy was represented by Vice Chairman of Presidium Sergei Chizhik, managers and employees of NASB research institutes.
The main topic of the negotiations was cooperation in the field of heat and mass transfer and the possibilities of signing an agreement for organization of joint research. Among LG Electronics major interests are achievements in the field of heat dissipation and new materials. Academician Vladimir Agabekov, Director of Institute of New Materials Chemistry, noted that the institute had cooperated with LG Electronics for a decade in the field of adhesive technologies, adhesives, LEDs and other fields.
Energy, bio-, nano- and medical technologies will be Belarusian science priorities within the following five years
Energy, bio-, nano- and medical technologies will be priorities of Belarusian science within the following five years. Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of Presidium, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, reported that to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has informed.
The report focused on 13 priority areas of science for the following five-year period. Based on these priorities a catalog of the main research programs has been developed. Currently they are being complemented with certain tasks and projects. Alexander Lukashenko was also reported about the sources of funding the proposed research and the future sales markets. Head of state also said he would like to meet with Belarusian scientists who represent not only NAS of Belarus but also universities and industrial science in order to review what has been achieved and discuss the plans.
NASB scientists speak about development of innovative biotechnologies in Belarus based on modern science and technology trends

NASB Council of Young Scientists holds press conference “Youth in Science. Preparation for the 1st Eurasian Young Scientists Forum (YES Forum)”
On August 10, 2015 the National Press Centre of the Republic of Belarus hosted the press conference “Youth in Science. Preparing for the 1st Eurasian Young Scientists Forum (YES Forum)”. The event involved Dr. Andrei Ivanets, Chairman, NASB Council of Young Scientists, Head of Laboratory, Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry; Dr. Alexei Trukhanov, Vice Chairman, NASB Council of Young Scientists, Lead Researcher, Scientific and Practical Centre for Materials Research; Dr. Alexander Shepshelev, Deputy Director General, Scientific and Practical Centre for Foodstuffs, PhD in Engineering; Dr.Pavel Morozik, Senior Researcher, Institute of Genetics and Cytology; Dr. Pyotr Pekut’ko, Scientific Secretary, Institute of Economics, PhD in Economics.
As Dr. Ivanets said, the 1st Young Scientists Eurasian Forum will be hosted by NAS of Belarus from the 1st to 4th of December. It will become one of the major young scientists events organized in Belarus.
Delegation of representatives of Pakistani scientific organizations visits NAS of Belarus
On August 7, 2015 NAS of Belarus received a delegation of representatives of Pakistani scientific organizations. The delegation was comprised of Dr. Shahzad Alam, Chairman of Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Mr. Amjad Hussain, Joint Scientific Advisor of Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan, and Arshad Salim Malik, Head of International Office, COMSTAS Institute of Information Technology. Within the framework of the visit the delegation attended the permanent exhibition “Achievements of national science applied for production” and the NASB History Museum.
The delegates also held negotiations with the leaders of NASB and NASB organizations on possible areas and mechanisms of further cooperation.
Moreover, the Pakistani guests visited the B.I.Stepanov Institute of Physics and the Physical-Technical Institute.
Microbial technologies to be discussed in Minsk
On September 7-11, 2015 NAS of Belarus will host the 9th International Scientific Conference “Microbial technologies: fundamental and applied aspects” dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the NASB Institute (Department) of Microbiology. The conference will focus on the latest achievements in the field of microbiology and biotechnology, modern trends and approaches to development of biologics for agriculture, food industry, medicine, environmental protection as well as include discussions of the prospects of use of biotechnological inventions as a basis of scientific-technical progress and innovative development of the country. It has been planned to hold within the framework of the conference a panel on the results of the Eurasian Economic Community Interstate Program implementation and a meeting of the Eastern Palearctic Regional Section of the International Organization for Biological Control.
US Congress House of Representatives delegation headed by Dana Rohrabacher visits NAS of Belarus
NAS of Belarus has hosted the delegation of the US Congress House of Representatives headed by Dana Rohrabacher, Representative for California, Vice-Chairman of the Committee for Science, Space and Technology of the House of Representatives.
During his visit to NAS of Belarus the congressman attended the permanent exhibition “The achievements of national science applied for production”. The visitor showed a special interest in the Belarusian projects in the field of energy. The congressman expressed confidence that if scientists from Belarus as well as from other post-Soviet countries consolidated their efforts with their American colleagues, it would benefit all parties.
The leaders of NAS of Belarus expressed hope that the visit would become a certain stage in establishing closer cooperation between Belarusian and American scientists. Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov reminded that presently the chief scientific institution of Belarus and a range of American universities and laboratories had agreements and implemented joint projects. “We already have a range of achievements ready to be implemented in various areas – in the field of materials science, physics, biology and biotechnology, humanities. We think that the capacities of the Academy of Sciences are much greater, we can broaden our cooperation in a variety of areas”.

Delegation of US Congress House of Representatives to visit NAS of Belarus
On August 3, 2015 the delegation of the US Congress House of Representatives will visit NAS of Belarus. The goal of the visit is holding negotiations with the leaders of NAS of Belarus on perspective areas and mechanisms of Belarusian and American cooperation in the aerospace sector and in energy conservation.
It is expected that the members of the delegation will attend the permanent exhibition “Achievements of national science applied for production” as well as hold negotiations with the leadership of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Meeting with Sergei Rakhmanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus in Japan held at NAS of Belarus
On July 30, 2015 a meeting with Sergei Rakhmanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus in Japan, was held at NAS of Belarus. The event involved the managers of the NASB organizations as well as the representatives of Belarusian ministries, agencies and industrial enterprises. During the meeting Sergei Rakhmanov made a report on development of business relations between Belarus and Japan stressing the rising interest of Japanese businessmen towards investing in and furthering collaboration with Belarusian businesses. Over the last years in the light of closer cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union the Japanese partners have shown greater interest in the experience and practices of Belarusian scientists and manufacturers. The report also states that the exports of Belarusian services in the field of sciences and education saw a 2.7-fold increase from 2011 to 2014.
“These facts indicate positive changes in the bilateral business relations, which must be used more actively”, Chief Scientific Secretary Alexander Kilchevsky underlined.
Meeting with Institute of the Arctic and Antarctica delegation to be held at NAS of Belarus
On July 21, 2015 the leaders of NAS of Belarus will meet with the delegation of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “The Institute of the Arctic and Antarctica” and the Russian Antarctic Expedition headed by Valery Lukin, Vice-Director of the Institute of Arctic and Antarctica, head of the Russian Antarctic Expedition.
