Alexander Beletsky, Corresponding Member of NASB, awarded with the Certificate of Honor of Council of Ministers of Republic of Belarus
In accordance with the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus No. 771 of 13 October 2017, Alexander Beletsky, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, was awarded with the Certificate of Honor of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus. The Certificate was awarded "for many years of fruitful work, high professionalism, significant personal contribution to the introduction of new effective methods of diagnostics and treatment." The Resolution was signed by A. Kobyakov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus.
First Belarusian Congress of Philosophy completes its work
On 18-20 October 2017, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted the First Belarusian Congress of Philosophy "National Philosophy in Global World." The forum was timed to the Year of Science and became the largest event in the field of philosophical sciences and related social and humanitarian disciplines in the history of independent Belarus. More than 680 delegates from 25 countries, including all the EAEU states, countries of Europe, Asia and America participated in it.
Scientific and Production Center for Multipurpose Unmanned Systems takes part in joint command staff exercise on responding to radiation accidents
The Republican Unitary Enterprise Scientific and Production Center of Multipurpose Unmanned Systems of the NAS of Belarus took part in joint command staff exercise on responding to radiation accidents. On October 18, the first stage of the exercise was held. At that stage, joint actions of the subunits of the Belarusian and Russian Emergencies Ministries, and of the troops of radiation, chemical and bacteriological protection of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus were practiced.
International Scientific Forum "Traditional Belarusian Costume in European Cultural Space" to be opened on October 19, 2017
On 19 October 2017, at 10:00 a.m., a solemn opening of the International Scientific Forum "Traditional Belarusian Costume in European Cultural Space" will be held at the NASB Center for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Research (vul. Surhanava 1/2). Leading scientists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, and Estonia will participate in it. During the forum, new models of social functioning of the traditional costume, as well as new models of the use and development of valuable national heritage in modern conditions will be considered. The forum results will help to highlight the priority and long-term objectives of further social and cultural development of the Republic of Belarus in the context of pan-European cultural processes.
NASB Institute of Sociology to organize scientific and practical seminar within framework of Weeks of Sustainable Development 2017
On 18 October 2017, the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Belarus (Minsk, vul. Surhanava 1/2) will hold a scientific and practical seminar "Sustainable Cities and Settlements and Well-Being of Citizens as an Important Component of Sustainable Development Goals" planned within the framework of the Weeks of Sustainable Development 2017.
Unique device developed by scientists from NASB Institute of Applied Physics
In 2017, scientists from the Institute of Applied Physics of the NAS of Belarus developed ISUM-1 software and hardware complex. It is designed for measurement of the modulus of elasticity and hardness of modern composite graphite and carbon materials and for non-destructive testing of products from them. ISUM-1 has no analogues in the world. It is developed for needs of aerospace industry (to control assemblies of turbo-pump sets of liquid rocket engines and nozzle extensions) and in other industries which use products made of graphite and carbon materials. The device has been introduced by the Scientific and Technical Center “Etalon” (Russian Federation), which is a part of the Roskosmos corporation.
Presentation of popular science book "Aggressive Plants. Invasive Species in Belarus" to be held on October 17
On 17 October 2017, at 5:00 p.m., the V.F.Kuprevich Institute of Experimental Botany of the NAS of Belarus and the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the NAS of Belarus will present a popular science book "Aggressive Plants. Invasive Species in Belarus", published in July 2017.
The main invasive plant species found on the territory of our country are listed and described in alphabetical order in the book. Some of them are recognized as dangerous in Europe. The essays show the scientific and popular names of these species, information about their biology, ecology, origin, as well as specific recommendations for limiting the number and destruction of aggressive plants. This is the first reference book of such kind on vascular plants of the Republic of Belarus.
Press conference on forthcoming First Belarusian Congress of Philosophy held
A press conference on the forthcoming First Belarusian Congress of Philosophy "National Philosophy in Global World" was held at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus. The congress will be held in Minsk on October 18–20, 2017.
The press conference was attended by Anatoly Lazarevich, Director of the NASB Institute of Philosophy; Vadim Gigin, Dean of the BSU Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences; Viktor Chueshov, Head of the Philosophy and Ideological Work Department of the Academy of Public Administration under the Aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus; and Anatoly Zelenkov, Head of the BSU Department of Philosophy and Methodology of Science.
NASB Institute of Power Engineering contributes to opening largest solar power station in Belarus
The largest in Belarus photovoltaic station (solar power station) with a capacity of 55 MW opened near Rečyca. The work was carried out with the scientific support of the Institute of Power Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
According to Anton Bryn’, Director of the Institute, the Academy’s specialists carried out an energy examination, developed an integrated feasibility study for the introduction of a power station (initially, the construction of a station with a smaller capacity was planned).
Memorandum on Cooperation between NASB Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering and «UNERA Luxembourg S.A.» company signed
On October 5, the NASB Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering and the UNERA Luxembourg S.A. company (Luxembourg), which has the OJSC "UneraGroup" subsidiary in the Republic of Belarus (Hrodna), signed a Memorandum on Cooperation.
The Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering is currently developing technology for obtaining spirulina biomass and establishing its production from the Spirulina platensis IBCE S-2 strain from its own algological collection.
Within the framework of the memorandum, it is planned to use Belarusian spirulina as a raw material for obtaining ingredients with high biological activity and their joint use in different branches of the national economy.

NASB Researchers Training Institute invites to Chinese Language Course
A new educational project for the NASB staff, namely Spoken Chinese Language Course (HSK1, a basic level), starts at the State Educational Institution “Researchers Training Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus”.
The course consists of 140 academic hours and involves comprehensive language teaching, aiming at formation of oral speech skills and skills of hieroglyphic writing, Chinese listening comprehension, transcription and hieroglyph reading. The teacher is a native speaker. A state document is issued for those completed the course. The classes start on October 23, 2017.
Conference on problems and perspectives of teriologic research held at NASB Scientific and Practical Center for Bioresources
On 9-11 October 2017, an International Scientific Conference on contemporary aspects of theriological research, namely its problems and prospects, is held at the Scientific and Practical Center for Bioresources of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (Minsk, vul. Akademičnaja, 27). The conference is held in memory of Petr G. Kozlo (1934-2013). The conference is scheduled to consider modern ecological and evolutionary problems in teriology; population biology of wild animals; breeding of wild animals in open-air cages and in half-free conditions, etc.

On 2 October 2017, a seminar on applied information systems and artificial intelligence with Russian and Belarusian participants involved was held at the Center for Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Representatives of the Victor V. Martynov scientific school attended the seminar from the Belarusian side. Among them there were A.N. NAS of Belarus and Ministry of Foreign Affairs sign Agreement on Cooperation
On 6 October 2017, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus signed an Agreement on Cooperation. It resulted from negotiations between Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the NASB Presidium, and Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
NASB representative takes part in press conference on forthcoming 5th International Water Forum
On 3 October 2017, the National Press Center held a press conference on the forthcoming 5th International Water Forum “Water Resources and Climate” going to take place in Minsk. The event was attended by Oleg A. Beliy, Scientific Secretary of the NASB Center of System Analysis and Strategic Research. He talked about the problem of polluting runoff in the livestock sector. According to the expert, our country does not fully use the potential of biogas technologies, and the norms of water consumption must be limited by law. A separate session at the forum will be devoted to the topic of the hydropower development and the use of geothermal waters.
NAS of Belarus and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Belarus to sign Agreement on Cooperation
On 6 October 2017 (Friday), the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus will sign an Agreement on Cooperation at the NAS of Belarus (praspiekt Niezaliežnasci 66, room 216).
The purpose of the Agreement is to make the interaction between the NAS of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs systematic in the following fields: monitoring, analysis and forecasting the development of international global and regional political and economic processes; strategic planning of measures for the development of international cooperation (expert review of the current foreign policy and problematic issues of international relations in the context of the Belarusian national interests); promotion of products of Belarusian organizations in foreign markets; popularization of the historical, cultural and spiritual heritage of the Belarusian people.
NAS of Belarus still receiving applications for contest for best presentation of scientific achievements in media in 2017
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus announced a contest for the best presentation of scientific achievements in media in 2017. The contest is dedicated to the Year of Science and aims at forming a holistic positive image of science and enhancing its authority, attracting the attention of general public to the achievements of Belarusian scientists, stimulating creative and professional activity of both journalists and non-professional science popularizers. The contest winners will be determined in the following nominations: the best publication; the best publication in a popular science edition, the best story (program) on radio and television; the best presentation of achievements of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on the Internet. They will be awarded with diplomas and cash prizes. The nomination period and procedure for the nomination are defined in the Regulation on the Contest for the Best Presentation of Scientific Achievements in Media, approved by the Decree of the Bureau of the NASB Presidium of 4 March 2015, No. 77.
Official launch of Sino-Belarusian Philosophy and Culture Research Center held
On 27 September 2017, an official launch of the Sino-Belarusian Philosophy and Culture Research Center was held in Zhanjiang (Guangdong province, China).
The Center has been set up within the cooperation of the NASB Institute of Philosophy and the Lingnan Normal University (PRC). Both of the institutions are the platform for the Center’s activities. A solemn opening of the Sino-Belarusian Philosophy and Culture Research Center at the NASB Institute of Philosophy is scheduled to take place during the First Belarusian Philosophy Congress in October 2017.
On 2-7 October 2017, NASB Forest Institute holds 5th International Conference Meeting "Conservation of Forest Genetic Resources"
On 2-7 October 2017, the State Scientific Institution "Forest Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" holds the 5th International Conference Meeting "Conservation of Forest Genetic Resources". It has been organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the NASB Department of Biological Sciences, the NASB Scientific and Practical Center for Bioresourses, the NASB Forest Institute, the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus, and the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO). At the Conference Meeting, information on innovative ways to conserve, reproduce and rationally use forest genetic resources will be presented and discussed; the international experience on studying and preserving forest genetic resources will be summarized; the problems of implementation of modern scientific achievements in the field of conservation and use of forest genetic resources in the forestry sector, as well as prospects for activating the innovation process will be discussed. The Conference Meeting received 111 reports from participants representing 97 organizations from 18 countries (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Brazil, Germany, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Romania, USA, Turkey, Ukraine, and Switzerland). The number of foreign participants is about 75%.
