Summer Games 2018 among NASB organizations set record for number of participants and teams
The Summer Games 2018 were held in the children's health camp "Photon" on 24-26 August 2018. This year the competition was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the founding of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Introducing the sports festival, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov noted: “This is the most representative of all the academic games and this time it is very well organized, all participants are well prepared.”
The Summer Games 2018 gathered 35 teams, more than 200 participants.
National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and KB Unmanned Helicopters sign cooperation agreement
On 29 August 2018, Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the NASB Presidium, and Vladimir Chudakov, Director of KB Unmanned Helicopters Ltd, signed an Agreement on cooperation between the two organizations.
The document says that the parties will unite their efforts in the field of scientific and technical research, will work on joint projects at the premises of the cluster "Head Republican Center of Unmanned Equipment", created at the NAS of Belarus, with representatives of scientific and practical centers for multifunctional unmanned complexes. Together, the partners will work on new models of aircraft and helicopter equipment.
Press conference on preparation and holding 31st International Congress of Association of Space Flight Participants is held
On 28 August 2018, a press conference on the preparation and holding of the 31st International Congress of the Association of Space Flight Participants took place at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus.
The event was attended by Sergei Kilin, Vice-Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus; Pyotr Vityaz, head of Academy staff; Sergei Zolotoy, Director of the Scientific-Engineering Enterprise “Geoinformation Systems” of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, chief designer of the Belarusian space system for Earth remote sensing.
Accreditation for events of 31 International Congress of Association of Space Flight Participants
Accreditation of mass media representatives to the events of the 31st International Congress of the Association of Space Flight Participants (except for the opening ceremony) is taking place. The 31st International Congress of the Association of Space Flight Participants will be held in Minsk on 9-15 September 2018. The program includes one thematic and four technical sessions. Participants of the international congress will address representatives of various organizations and higher educational institutions of Belarus, and get acquainted with the cultural and historical heritage of the country as well.
Agricultural scientists hold press conference “New agro-industrial technologies: contribution of Belarusian scientists to development of agriculture”
On 9 August 2018, a press conference on new agro-industrial technologies and the contribution of Belarusian scientists to the development of agriculture was held at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus. The event was attended by Eroma Urban, Deputy Director General on scientific work at the Scientific and Practical Center of the NAS of Belarus for Arable Farming; Alexander Budevich, Deputy Director General on scientific work at the the Scientific and Practical Center of the NAS of Belarus for Animal Breeding; Alexander Taranov, Director of the Institute of Fruit Growing of the NAS of Belarus, and Dmitry Komlach, Deputy Director General on implementation and testing at the Scientific and Practical Center of the NAS of Belarus for Agriculture Mechanization. Representatives of scientific and practical centers told about the latest developments of scientists in the field of agro-industrial technologies and answered journalists’ questions.
Belarusian-Chinese scientific and practical seminar of think tanks is held at Institute of Economics of NAS of Belarus
On 9 August 2018, the Belarusian-Chinese scientific and practical seminar of think tanks "Cooperation between Belarus and China in the context of implementing the One Belt and One Road Initiative: challenges and solutions" was held at the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The event was organized by the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Chinese Development Institute with the support of China Merchants Group under the current agreement on scientific cooperation.
The purpose of the scientific and practical seminar is to discuss problems and solutions for the implementing projects of the One Belt and One Road Initiative in the Republic of Belarus and to give a new impetus to the Chinese-Belarusian strategic cooperation.
Delegation of Russian Antarctic expedition visits NAS of Belarus
A delegation of the Russian Antarctic expedition of the Federal state budgetary institution "Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute" of Roshydromet (St. Petersburg) visited the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 7-8 August 2018. The purpose of the visit is to review the implementation status of the Action Plan for the enforcement provisions of the Agreement on cooperation in Antarctica between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Russian Federation, to discuss plans in scientific and logistical cooperation for 2018 – 2019, including the 11th Belarusian Antarctic expedition and the 64th Russian Antarctic expedition.
Research and Development Centre to be built at Academpharm premises
On 6 August 2018, the grand opening of the landscape complex in honor of the construction of Research and Development Centre took place at the state enterprise Academpharm of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The event was attended by a delegation of the Indian pharmaceutical company Cipla Limited headed by Dr. Yusuf Khwaja Hamied, Non-Executive Chairman of the company, honorary member of the NAS of Belarus.
USSR pilot-cosmonaut Pyotr Klimuk awarded diploma of honorary member of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus
On 25 July 2018, the Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov presented the diploma of honorary member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to the USSR pilot-cosmonaut Pyotr Klimuk. Pyotr Klimuk is an astronaut, well-known scientist, doctor of technical sciences, full member of the Russian Academy of Cosmonautics named after K.E. Tsiolkovsky, Academician of the International Academy of Informatics, Corresponding Member of the International Academy of Astronautics.
Contest of 100 talents of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in 2018 announced
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus announces a contest of 100 talents of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in 2018.
The competition is held in order to implement measures to attract and consolidate talented young people in the scientific, technical and innovation spheres; to create youth research groups and rejuvenate the staff of scientific organizations; to ensure continuity between scientists of different generations.
Call for applications for exhibition "Festival of Science - 2018"
On 8 September 2018, "Festival of Science – 2018" dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Academy of Sciences and the City Day will be organized at the Central Botanical garden of the NAS of Belarus. The festival is a mass scientific and educational event designed for 8-10 thousand visitors in one day on the subject of science. The purpose of the event is to arouse interest in science among students, to strengthen the prestige of science in society, to tell about the achievements of Belarusian and world science. In connection with the active involvement of students and young scientists in the Festival, an effective system is being created to ensure the continuity of generations and the development of sustained interest of the younger generation to research work. Academic institutes, universities, scientific and educational projects, museums of science, as well as children's creativity centers and robotics clubs will take part in the event.

The NAS of Belarus announces the Contest for Prizes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for 2018.
Prizes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus are awarded for outstanding scientific results obtained in joint research in natural, technical, humanitarian and social sciences which have important scientific and practical significance. Russian and Belarusian scientists who are citizens of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus and work in scientific organizations subordinate to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and in scientific organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus can participate in the contest. Works or series of joint works carried out by a team of scientists from research organizations subordinate to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus can be presented for the contest.
Belarus receives status of associate member of Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research
Belarus represented by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus received the status of an associate member of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR). The news was reported by Alexei Gaidashov, Deputy Head of the Republican Center for Polar Research of the NAS of Belarus, Head of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition, who is now participating in the SCAR meeting in Davos, Switzerland.“I am pleased to report that on 25 June 2018 a unanimous decision to approve the Republic of Belarus represented by the NAS of Belarus as an associate member of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research was adopted at the SCAR meeting. Many years of the NASB staff teamwork in this direction received a high evaluation of the international Antarctic Community and allowed our country to enhance significantly its scientific status among the countries exploring the Antarctic region and open new opportunities for the development of international scientific cooperation in Antarctica,” Alexei Gaidashov said.

Large international forum on cell technologies to be held at NAS of Belarus on June 27-29, 2018
On 27-29 June 2018, the International Scientific Conference “Molecular, Membrane and Cell Bases of Biosystems Functioning” and the 13th Congress of Belarusian Public Association of Photobiologists and Biophysicists will be held in Minsk. The conference will open on 27 June 2018, at 9:30 a.m.
The international conference is a large-scale scientific forum with a wide geography of participants. More than 200 leading scientists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Poland, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Lithuania and Latvia will take part in the conference. The scientific forum will highlight the results of research conducted in the field of biophysics, cell engineering, molecular biology and nanobiotechnology. The international conference contributes to the expansion of international cooperation, the establishment of new and development of existing scientific contacts, and the implementation of joint international scientific projects. It will also allow attracting talented young people to research.
