Successes of UAVs of NAS of Belarus in United Arab Emirates
From 25 to 27 February 2018 the leading International Exhibition of Unmanned Systems and Simulators UMEX 2018 took place in Abu Dhabi. This event was arranged under the auspices of the royal prince of Abu Dhabi, deputy commander-in-chief of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan with support of the General Staff of the UAE Armed Forces. Such kind of exhibition reflects the tendency of the Middle East and North Africa countries to use high-tech systems, including unmanned systems. The exhibition, which took place within the framework of the Aviation and Aerospace Week, was attended by experts, researchers and specialists who were shown current international products and scientific innovations in unmanned equipment. Over 120 enterprises and companies from 34 countries presented their products in the field of aviation, marine and land unmanned systems at an exhibition area of 17 thousand square meters.
Swedish and Belarusian scientists to cooperate in the field of ecology and energy
From 26 February to 2 March 2018, Vice President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences Magnus Breidne visited Minsk at the invitation of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The purpose of the visit was to discuss promising areas and mechanisms for developing scientific and technical cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Swedish organizations.
NAS of Belarus hosted conference on thyroid cancer
The scientific conference "Thyroid cancer: multidisciplinary approach to pathology", dedicated to the memory of Academician of the NAS of Belarus Yevgeny P. Demidchik and Corresponding Member of the NAS of Belarus Yury Ye. Demidchik, was held on 2 March 2018 in Minsk. The forum discussed the latest methods of treatment and diagnosis of thyroid cancer.
First conference of young researchers starts its work at Institute of History of NAS of Belarus
On 1-2 March 2018 the Council of Young Scientists of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus holds the First conference of young researchers of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus "Ars longa: scientific achievements, projects, prospects". Young scientists, laboratory assistants and postgraduate students were invited to present their individual or collective projects and studies of recent years. The organizers hope that such kind of conference will promote the development of internal professional contacts and will activate creative searches for young scientists.
Scientists suggest strengthening control over food quality
The NAS of Belarus with the involvement of specialists from scientific medical organizations of the Ministry of Health recommended using more widely the methodology for assessing risk analysis when developing enriched and functional foods. This decision was made at a meeting of the interdepartmental coordinating Council on nutrition problems under the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, which was held on 28 February 2018. In particular, it is recommended to further develop the risk analysis methodology in terms of assessing the potentially negative impact of drugs residues of veterinary and plant protection products, as well as substances migrating from the polymeric packaging of food products on the health of the population of the republic. As noted, the analysis of the risk of food safety is an internationally recognized, modern and effective method. The necessary legislative framework, institutional structure, methodological support and human resources have been formed to implement it in the Republic of Belarus.
National Academy of Sciences of Belarus announces competition "Electric car"
The national Academy of Sciences of Belarus announced the competition "Electric car".
The main objective of the competition is to stimulate intellectual and innovative activity in creating new technologies for electric transport that are of practical interest, as well as motivation initiatives and creative thought, involving a wide range of inventors in the project to create an electric vehicle.
Forum on thyroid cancer to be held in National Academy of Sciences of Belarus
On 2 March 2018 (Friday) at 9.30 the conference with international participation "Thyroid cancer: multidisciplinary approach to pathology" dedicated to the memory of Academician of the NAS of Belarus Yevgeny P. Demidchik and Corresponding Member of the NAS of Belarus Yury Ye. Demidchik will be opened in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (Minsk, praspiekt Niezaliežnasci 66, conference hall).
NAS of Belarus presents newest laser systems in Moscow
The NAS of Belarus takes part in the 13th international specialized exhibition of laser, optical and optoelectronic equipment "Photonics. The world of lasers and optics – 2018" which was opened on 27 February 2018 in Moscow.
The B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus presented its latest achievements in the field of laser physics and optics.
Winter Sports Contest among NASB organizations took place on 24-25 February
On 24-25 February, the Winter Sports Contest 2018 among the organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was held at the sanatorium Islach. The event was attended by 30 organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Sports teams competed for prizes in ski races, combined relay and tug of war.
Regional Round table "Bio-Bridge Initiative" starts its work in National Academy of Sciences of Belarus
On 26 February 2018, a Regional Round Table "Bio-Bridge Initiative" for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the Central Asian republics started its work.
The round table was organized by The Secretariat of the Convention on biological diversity in cooperation with the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the NAS of Belarus and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus. Representatives of 20 countries take part in the Round table.
Conference "Belarusian language in sacrum sphere: history and modernity" is held at Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics
On 21 February 2018, an international scientific conference "Belarusian language in sacrum sphere: history and modernity" was held at the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics where scientists-philologists and representatives of various religious confessions of the Republic of Belarus discussed the role and position of the Belarusian language in the religious sphere, the history of the sources of sacred texts, the problems of Belarusian theological terminology formation, the traditions of translations, new religious publications and religious themes in Belarusian literature, the Belarusian Biblical Corps, etc.
Welcome address on behalf of Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, was read by Alexander Kovalenya, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Humanitarian Sciences and Arts. In the address Vladimir Gusakov, in particular, emphasized the role of religion in the formation of moral, ethical and moral guidelines of society.

A round table "Belarusian language and business" was held at the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics within the Week of Mother Tongue. The meeting was attended by representatives of business, advertising agencies, the Ministry of Trade and Antimonopoly Regulation, etc. During the round table, the participants discussed the prospects of using the national language as an important factor in advertising of the company, the terminology base of advertising, business and language policy, business and national publishing and a number of other issues.
Scientists-linguists of National Academy of Science of Belarus meet with gymnasium students within Week of Native Language
On 20 February, a meeting of scientists-linguists with students from Minsk gymnasium No. 23 with the Belarusian language of instruction took place at the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics within the Week of Native Language.
Welcoming the guests, Director of the Center for Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Research of the NAS of Belarus, Academician, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Doctor of Architecture, Professor Alexander I. Lokotko noted that the Belarusian language "is the most important sign of belonging to Belarus, Belarusian citizenship. The Belarusian language is what makes us Belarusians. If there is a Belarusian language there are Belarusians people with a deep culture and history".

Exhibition of drawings and descriptions of Livonia by Johann Christoph Brotze is opened in Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library
On 20 February an exhibition of drawings and descriptions of Livonia by Johann Christoph Brotze (1742-1823) from the collection of Academic Library of Latvian University was opened in the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library.
The presentation was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Belarus Martins Virsis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Belarus Milan Ekert, representatives of the leading libraries of Minsk, teachers and students of universities, famous historians, and journalists. The guests noted the importance of cooperation between our states in the field of culture which contributes to the strengthening of friendship and good-neighbourly relations. Venta Kocare, Director of the Academic Library of Latvian University, said that this exhibition had already travelled 15 countries, invariably causing great interest. In Belarus, the exhibition is exhibited for the third time, and for the first time in the capital.
