2nd Congress of Scientists of the Republic of Belarus to be held
According to the Council of Ministers Decree № 659 of 30 August 2017 the organizing committee for preparing and holding of the 2nd Congress of Scientists of the Republic of Belarus is approved.
Vladimir I. Semashko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, was appointed as a chairman of the organizing committee.
The organizing committee was entrusted with the task of coordinating the work on the preparation and holding the Congress in the IV quarter of 2017 in Minsk. The committee should approve the action plan and the program of the Congress for its preparation and holding, as well as to develop guidelines for selecting representatives and the procedure for electing delegates to the Congress.
Press conference on biotechnology development in Belarus held
30 August 2017, a press conference on key areas of biotechnology development in Belarus, new products and their application took place at BelTA's press center. The event was attended by Emilia Kolomiyets, Director General of the R&D group Chemical Synthesis and Biotechnologies, Director of the Institute of Microbiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Valentina Lemesh, Director of the Institute of Genetics and Cytology at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and Natalya Pshybytko, deputy director for science and innovations of the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering at the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences. Heads of NASB organizations told representatives of the media about the work of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in biotechnology and about new scientific developments in this field.
NASB and Alferov’s Foundation announced competition for Young Scientists Award 2017
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Foundation for Support of Education and Science (Alferov’s Foundation) announce a competition for young scientists (up to 35 years as of January 1 of the competition year) for the awards of the NASB and Alferov's Foundation for the best research work (a separate scientific work or a set of works united by a common theme) for the year 2017
State awards of Republic of Belarus are conferred to NASB representatives
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No. 303 of 25 August 2017 "On conferment of state awards." Representatives of various institutions and enterprises received medals and orders in recognition of the many-year productive work, exemplary fulfillment of service duties, a big personal contribution to the production of heavy quarry equipment, the development of optical instrument-making, light industry, railway transport and agriculture, great achievements in healthcare and consumer services, national journalism, science, education, culture and art.
Belarus President’s Letter of commendation is given to NASB representatives
According to Belarus President Decree № 136rp from 24 August 2017 Alexander V. Kilchevsky, the Chief Scientific Secretary of the NASB Presidium, and Vitalij V. Lapa, Director of the Republican Scientific Subsidiary Unitary Enterprise the Institute for Soil Science and Agrochemistry, received Belarus President’s Letter of commendation in recognition of the many-year productive scientific work, a big personal contribution to the development of agrochemical research and topical areas of biotechnology, genetics and plant breeding, training of top-qualification specialists.
Knowledge Day to be celebrated at the NASB Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library
On 1 September 2017 (Friday) at 10:00, Knowledge Day will be celebrated at the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the NAS of Belarus (Minsk, vul. Surhanava 15). Event organizer is the NASB Researchers Training Institute. NASB officials, heads of scientific organizations, leading scientists of the country will address the Master's Degree students. The first lecture on "Introduction to Science" will be held as well. On 1 September 2017, 110 Master's Degree students in 9 specialties will begin their training at the NASB Researchers Training Institute.
Representatives of Russian and Union media visit SSI Joint Institute of Power and Nuclear Research — Sosny
24 August 2017, the representatives of the Russian and Union media visited the State Scientific Institution the Joint Institute of Power and Nuclear Research — Sosny to meet with atomic scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. This visit was held within the press tour "Cooperation between Belarus and Russia in nuclear energy" organized by the Standing Committee of Union state, the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus and the International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya with the support of the Ministry of energy of the Republic of Belarus and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
NASB Institute of Economics and China Development Institute sign agreement on scientific cooperation
On 22 August 2017, a delegation of the China Development Institute and JSCC Industrial Park Development Company visited the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The purpose of the visit was to discuss prospects for cooperation between the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Chinese Development Institute (Shenzhen, PRC) and JSCC Industrial Park Development Company.
National Academy of Sciences of Belarus presents first Belarusian electric car
On 22 August 2017, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has presented a pilot model of the first Belarusian electric car at the national proving ground for mobile vehicles of the NASB Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering. There were also demonstrated new developments of the NASB scientists on the subject of electric vehicles such as a motor wheel and an electric bike created on its basis (Republican Unitary Enterprise the Instrument Manufacturing Plant "Optron" of the NAS of Belarus), and a super capacitor (the Scientific and Practical Materials Research Center of the NAS of Belarus). The event was attended by Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Semashko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, representatives of ministries and departments of the country.
Belarusian scientist Ivan Saverchanka honored with Stars of Commonwealth Award
Ivan Saverchanka, a Belarusian scientist-philologist, the director of the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literature Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and a member of The Presidium of the Union of Writers of Belarus, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor, has been honored with the interstate Stars of Commonwealth Award. Information was provided by the official letter from the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation. Ivan Saverchanka received the award following the decision of the 2016 Commonwealth Stars Council. The solemn award ceremony will take place in Moscow.
Department Head at V. A. Belyi Metal Polymer Research Institute Vladimir Sergienko awarded Honorary Diploma of Council of Ministers
According to the Decree № 594 of 8 August 2017 the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus has decided to award Vladimir Sergienko, head of frictional materials science department at the V. A. Belyi Metal Polymer Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Honorary Diploma of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus for many years of fruitful scientific activity and considerable personal contribution to the development and introduction of import substitution technologies, materials and products in machine-building and metallurgical sectors.
New joint venture ACADEM-SERT Ltd established
On 11 August 2017, the limited liability company ACADEM-SERT for carry out research, testing and certification of vehicles was established and registered in Minsk through previous agreements between authorized representatives of the state scientific institution "The Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" and VEO Standards Technical Co., Ltd. (People's Republic of China).
Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of NASB Presidium, holds meeting with cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy
On 11 August 2017, Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the NASB Presidium, met with the cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The focus of the negotiations was the preparations for the 31st International Congress of Association of Space Flights Participants which will be held in Belarus in September 2018. The sides also discussed participation of Russian cosmonauts in this forum.
As emphasized by Vladimir Gusakov, "We attach particular importance to the holding this Congress in Belarus, which will be attended by representatives of dozens of countries. This event will play an important role in strengthening the image of Belarus as a space power. In this regard, your guidance and advice on organization, plan to carry out, and participants’ visit program are of great importance. "
Agrarian scientists hold press conference dedicated to issues of new agribusiness technologies and contribution of Belarusian scientists in development of agriculture
On August 10, 2017 a press conference dedicated to issues of new agribusiness technologies and contribution of Belarusian scientists in development of agriculture was held at the National Press-Centre of the Republic of Belarus. The event was attended by First Deputy General Director for Science of the Scientific and Practical Center on Animal Husbandry of the NAS of Belarus, the NASB Academician Ivan P. Shejko; Deputy General Director of the Scientific and Practical Center for Arable Farming of the NAS of Belarus Dmitry V. Luzhinsky and Deputy General Director for Science of the Scientific and Practical Center for Foodstuffs Aleksandr A. Shepshelev. Representatives of the scientific and practical centers spoke about the latest scientific developments in agribusiness technologies and answered numerous questions of journalists.
National Academy of Sciences of Belarus becomes IAAS reference organization
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will now perform the functions of the reference organization in charge of organizational and methodological support for the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS). The decision was taken on August 9, 2017 at the meeting of the NASB Presidium. In accordance with the decision, Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov was appointed new IAAS president, and the responsibilities of the reference organization were transferred to the NASB.
The participation of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in the work of the IAAS as a reference organization will enhance role of Belarus in the world and will help to establish new mutually beneficial contacts in the sciences.

Agreements between NASB Researchers Training Institute and three Sudanese leading universities signed
On August 9, 2017 a representative delegation of the Republic of Sudan visited the Researchers Training Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Negotiations on cooperation between higher education institutions of Sudan and the Researchers Training Institute of the NAS of Belarus were held. After the talks, the Rector of Researchers Training Institute of the NAS of Belarus Ihar I. Hancharonak and rectors of three leading universities in Sudan (Bahri, Al Neelain, Kassala) signed agreements on cooperation in the sphere of development of higher education, research training and academic mobility of teaching staff and students.
