Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov meets Turkey Ambassador to Belarus Kezban Nilvana Darama
On December 24, 2015 Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov met Turkey Ambassador to Belarus Kezban Nilvana Darama. The focus of the meeting was on the issues related to the expansion of scientific and technical cooperation between Belarus and Turkey and possible participation of the NASB organizations in the Expo 2016 Antalya. “Belarus and Turkey must intensify their scientific-technical collaboration for the benefit of the economies of the two countries,” stressed Vladimir Gusakov at the meeting. He suggested signing a new trilateral agreement on cooperation between the NAS of Belarus, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and the Turkish Academy of Sciences.
Vladimir Gusakov: Belarus-US Scientific Workshop is a landmark event for our countries
On December 15, 2015 the Belarus-US Scientific Workshop opened at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The Belarusian side is represented by a group of directors of major research and production organizations, leaders of scientific and technical projects.
Opening the workshop, Chairman of NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov called it “a landmark event for our academies, our scientific communities and our countries”. The NAS of Belarus expects this workshop to bring good prospects of cooperation with the American side and is open to collaboration in the entire range of areas: “We are ready to demonstrate our results, our institutes, laboratories, so that you can see that Belarusian science has made significant progress and possesses good capacities for cooperation”, said Vladimir Gusakov.
American academic delegation visiting NAS of Belarus
The delegation of representatives of the United States scientific community are visiting the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on December 13-18. Today the American delegates met the Chairman of the Presidium, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Vladimir Gusakov, representatives of the departments and institutes of the NAS of Belarus.
Vladimir Gusakov confirmed the intention to collaborate as equal partners with colleagues from the United States. Chairman of the Presidium noted that scientists of the two countries had already successfully implemented joint projects - in 2013 8 joint projects and in 2014 5 projects were implemented. This year a number of projects, particularly in the field of laser physics, materials, recycling, biotechnology, projects in the scope of the Botanical Garden and others, are being implemented.
Documents for cooperation between Academies of Sciences of Belarus and Turkmenistan signed
On December 10, 2015 Belarus and Turkmenistan signed the roadmap of cooperation for the years 2016-2017. The document was signed during the official visit of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to Turkmenistan. The document was signed by the two presidents Alexander Lukashenko and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In addition, the documents on cooperation in the food and light industries between the Academy of Sciences of the two countries were signed. The Agreement on scientific and technical cooperation was signed between the Center for Technology of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The Institute of Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan and the Institute of Chemistry of New Materials of NAS of Belarus signed the provision on a joint laboratory for the production of chemical products.
Roadmap of cooperation between the Academies of Sciences of Belarus and Vietnam signed
On November 9, 2015 Belarus and Vietnam signed a program of cooperation in economics, science, education and culture for the years 2016-2018. The document was signed during the official visit of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The document was signed by the two presidents Alexander Lukashenko and Truong Tan Sang. Also during the visit several documents were signed on the interdepartmental level, in particular, the roadmap of cooperation between the Academies of Sciences of the two countries.
Awards for best speakers at YES-Forum
On December 4 the First Young Eurasian Scientist Forum (YES-Forum) and the annual 12th international young scientists conference “Youth in Science 2015” closed at the NAS of Belarus. NASB Chief Scientific Secretary Alexander Kilchevsky presented the best speakers of the forum with awards.
The next Young Eurasian Scientist Forum is expected to be hosted by Kazakhstan.
Lecture by Russian cosmologist Valery Rubakov “Mysteries of universe: dark matter and dark energy”
On November 13, 2015 the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted a lecture by the famous Russian cosmologist Valery Rubakov. It was organized by the Science and Innovations Journal in cooperation with the Science Around Us Foundation and the NAS of Belarus. The video version of the lecture is now available, which will tell in detail about the scientist’s hypotheses on the main mystery of the 21st century fundamental physics – the nature of dark energy.
20 Belarusian projects presented at Skolkovo pitch session at NAS of Belarus on December 4
Twenty Belarusian projects were presented at a Skolkovo pitch session at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on December 4. Vice-President, Executive Director of Nuclear (Industrial) Technology Cluster, Skolkovo Foundation, Igor Karavaev heard brief presentations by the NASB scientists seeking to get support from the foundation, noted the strong sides of the projects and gave recommendations on how to improve the ideas and developments of Belarusian scientists looking for funding and projects commercialization.
The event was held as part of the Young Eurasian Scientist Forum (YES-Forum), which has ended today.
Vice-Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei Kilin holds talks with Japanese business delegation
On December 3, 2015 Vice-Chairman of Presidium, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Sergei Kilin held negotiations with head of sales department, Toshin Kogyo Ltd. (Japan), Ishii Takanori and advisor at Nomura Research Institute (Japan) D.Trufanov.
During the negotiations the parties discussed perspective areas and mechanisms of cooperation.
NAS of Belarus hosts round-table discussions dedicated to 50th anniversary of NASB Council of Young Scientists
Within the framework of the YES-Forum the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted round-table discussions dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the NASB Council of Young Scientists as well as the presentation of the book “Youth in science – 50 years of successful work”. The discussions involved Vice-Chairman of NASB Presidium Sergei Kilin, Chairman of Council of Young Scientists Andrei Ivanets, Chairmen of Young Scientists Councils of the Academies of Sciences of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
NASB Academician Igor Volotovsky, one of the first chairmen of the NASB Council of Young Scientists shared his memories of the establishment and operation of young scientists organizations back in the past.
First Young Eurasian Scientist Forum opens at NAS of Belarus
Around 500 young scientists from Belarus, Kazakhastan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Turkey, Germany (total 12 countries) are participating in the First Young Eurasian Scientist Forum (YES-Forum).
Chairman of Presidium, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Vladimir Gusakov expressed hope that the Forum would serve as a good platform for communication between young generation scientists: “Young people are communicating, sharing their ideas, making contacts, planning on future projects and areas of cooperation”.
Chairman of NASB Council of Young Scientists Andrei Ivanets said: “A peculiar feature of our event is that all the projects presented here are joint ones. These are the biggest innovation projects, many of them have already been implemented”.

The Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Kilchevsky has held talks with the President of the European Biotechnology Thematic Network Association (EBTNA) Munis Dundar. The meeting also involved Academician-Secretary of the NASB Department of Biological Sciences Mikhail Nikiforov, Director of the Institute of Genetics and Cytology Valentina Lemesh, Director of the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering Liudmila Dubovskaya. During the meeting the parties discussed the aspects of arranging Belarusian researchers’ publications in foreign journals, hosting lectures by foreign scientists in Belarus, organizing joint scientific events.
