3rd round table of young scientists to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration takes place
On July 28, 2016 the Department of Humanitarian Sciences and Arts held the 3rd round table of young scientists to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration. The main idea of a series of events conceived by the Council of Young Scientists of the NAS of Belarus is to provide opportunities to young scientists from the NAS of Belarus to get acquainted with the research interests of colleagues from other institutions and offices that can intensify their interaction. These tables have already taken place in Departments of Agricultural and Biological Sciences. Young scientists, graduate students and undergraduates not only humanitarian, but also the natural sciences and technical disciplines showed their interest in the event. Reports about the work with young scientists, the results of their research activity and directions to overcome the one-dimensionality of the disciplinary scientific research were made by the chairmen of councils of young scientists of structural subdivisions of the Department of Humanitarian Sciences and Arts of the NAS of Belarus. The work covered a wide range of topics and issues of the humanities, which require joint research by scientists from different branches of knowledge. It’s necessary to continue work started within the round table in order to develop specific mechanisms to facilitate the embodiment of proposals for interdisciplinary collaboration. Also it was noted the importance of studying the level of scientific literacy of the Belarusians and the implementation of actions for improving it. A fascinating tour of the Museum of Ancient Belarusian Culture was held for the participants of the round table.
Meeting of Board of Sports and Tourism Ministry of the Republic of Belarus and Bureau of NASB Presidium takes place
On July 29, 2016 a meeting of the Board of Sports and Tourism Ministry of the Republic of Belarus and the Bureau of NASB Presidium took place in the NAS of Belarus. The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov, Minister of Sport and Tourism Alexander Shamko, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Shumilin, scientists and representatives of the sports community. Within the board the issues of cooperation between the Ministry of Sports and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in attracting academic scientists to solve challenges facing athletes today were discussed. It is planned to address the following areas of collaboration: the development of new technologies for physiotherapy rehabilitation of athletes, neurophysiological analysis of an athlete in various states and sports exercises, development of new types of specialized food for athletes and others.
Enlarged meeting of Bureau of NASB Presidium following the first half was held
On July 28, 2016 an enlarged meeting of the Bureau of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus with participation of the heads of organizations was held. The main issue of the meeting was to discuss the implementation by the organizations of the NASB the forecast of socio-economic development within 6 months of this year. In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir G. Gusakov said that, in general, targets for the key indicators and indicators of socio-economic development for the National Academy of Sciences have been implemented. However, Vladimir G. Gusakov noted that he expects revitalization particularly from organizations in the regions.
Delegation of Chinese company Dongguan Kingsun Optoelectronic visits National Academy of Sciences of Belarus
On July 26, 2016 a delegation of the Chinese company Dongguan Kingsun Optoelectronic Co. Ltd. headed by Vice President Wang Song Vie visited the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The guests visited the NASB permanent exhibition "Domestic scientific achievements for manufacturers" and held talks on promising areas of cooperation in the field of optoelectronics and LED technology with the Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium Aleksandr V. Sukalo.
Then the guests went to the SSI "The B. I. Stepanov Institute of Physics of the NAS of Belarus" and the State Enterprise "Center of LED and Optoelectronic Technologies of the NAS of Belarus" for a more detailed familiarizing with the NASB developments in the field of LED technology.
Scientific Director of Finnish Meteorological Institute Professor Sergey Zilitinkevich visits National Academy of Sciences of Belarus
On July 25-26, 2016 the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was visited by Sergey Zilitinkevich, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Scientific Director of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Helsinki, Professor-researcher at the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), researcher at the A. M. Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics of Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor at Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC). He is a specialist in the field of atmospheric physics.
The purpose of the visit of Professor Sergey Zilitinkevich in the NASB is to establish cooperation with Belarusian colleagues within the framework of PEEX* and to discuss prospects of Belarusian participation in this program.
Institute of Radiobiology of NAS of Belarus awarded Diploma of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus
The Institute of radiobiology of the NAS of Belarus was awarded the Diploma of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus "For significant contribution of the Institute in overcoming the consequences of the catastrophe at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and rehabilitation of the affected areas, the implementation of projects aimed at obtaining new fundamental and applied results in the field of radiation protection, health and environmental activities". The Diploma was presented to the Institute Director Igor Cheshik on July 22 during a visit to Gomel the Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium Academician Aleksandr Sukalo.
Department of Humanitarian Sciences and Arts holds 3rd round table of young scientists to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration
On July 28, 2016 the Department of Humanitarian Sciences and Arts will hold the 3rd round table of young scientists to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration. Young scientists of the Department have prepared a number of proposals for cooperation between scientists within the organizations of the Department of Humanitarian Sciences and Arts, and for young scientists from other departments. The projects addressed a wide range of issues from social life to the problems of artificial intelligence etc. Young scientists from all departments of the NAS of Belarus are invited to take part in the Round Table discussion and in the future cooperation and extension fields for interdisciplinary interaction.

NAS of Belarus signed cooperation agreement with Higher Colleges of Technology (UAE)
On July 22, 2016 the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus signed a cooperation agreement in the field of science and research training between the Higher College of Technology (UAE) and the NAS of Belarus. Rector of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) Abdullatif Al Shamsi arrived to the NAS of Belarus to sign the agreement.
The agreement provides for the exchange of scientific information, mutual visits of scientists and researchers, the organization of joint seminars, workshops and training programs to promote research of mutual interest, as well as the training of the academic staff at the level of master's and PhD programs, the provision of appropriate scholarships.
The signing of the Agreement is part of the efforts made by UAE to achieve by 2021 a sustainable and diverse in the structure of the knowledge economy, through investments in human capital development and training of students with modern skills.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Turkey Andrej Savinykh visited NAS of Belarus
On July 20, 2016 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Turkey Andrej Savinykh visited NAS of Belarus. The Ambassador told how the work with Turkish partners can be built, and listened to the proposals of cooperation made by leaders of academic enterprises. Savinykh noted that science in the Republic of Turkey is concentrated in universities and regional industrial parks. Turkish partners are waiting for projects ready for commercialization, so academic enterprises need to decide on the topics that may be of interest to both parties and to prepare commercial offers for cooperation. At present, cooperation in scientific sphere between the two countries is based on the Agreement between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Turkish Research Council for Science and Technology (TUBITAK), signed in 2002, as well as on the Scientific Cooperation Agreement between the National Academy of Sciences and the Turkish Academy of Sciences of 2009 year. Recently, there was a contest of new projects for the years 2016-2017.

On July 19, 2016 at the Press Center of the Press House the press conference "The study of subsoil and development of the mineral resource base: identification of new mineral deposits" took place.
Representatives of the Ministry of Environment, Institute NIISM as well as of the Institute for Nature Management of the NASB told in detail about the dynamics of mining in our country. They listed main types of mineral resources, described proven and promising fields. The need to strengthen cooperation with their Russian counterparts in the framework of the Union State was underlined. Personnel and financing problems were touched too. Scholars and practitioners agreed, that today it is worth paying more attention to the already known sources of minerals. After all, there still are unexplored horizons and the problem of more advanced processing of mineral raw materials is actual.
The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus signed an Agreement establishing the International Academic Center ICRANet-Minsk
On July 18, 2016 the Director of the International Center for Relativistic Astrophysics Network ICRANet Remo Ruffini visited the NAS of Belarus to sign an Agreement to the Treaty of Cooperation (of September 6, 2013) between ICRANet and NAS of Belarus. During the visit, Mr Ruffini had talks with the management of the NAS of Belarus headed by the Chairman of the Presidium of the NASB Uladzimir Gusakou and signed the Agreement establishing the International Academic Center ICRANet in Minsk to carry out theoretical and experimental research in the field of relativistic astrophysics, gravitation and cosmology in coordination with ICRANet, including the organization of scientific schools, courses, seminars and conferences, coordination of training , implementation of mutual scientific visits program.

NAS of Belarus holds a meeting with the delegation of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of Iran
July 14, 2016, a meeting with the delegation of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by the Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Farhadi took place at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Belarus Mohammad Reza Saburi, managers, advisors, experts and specialists from the ministry and other scientific and educational institutions of the Republic of Iran participated in the meeting too. The guests visited the National Academy of Sciences' permanent exhibition Achievements of Domestic Science for Production Purposes, where they were familiarized with the main directions of the NASB organizations work. After that, negotiations with the Chairman of the NASB Presidium on promising directions and mechanisms of cooperation were held. The guests expressed their interest in the training of their scientific personnel and specialists at the NASB organizations
in the internship format, and for candidate works preparation. The two sides also agreed to hold scientific-practical lectures of the NASB engineering specialists in Iran. After the talks, the visit of Iranian delegation continued at the United Institute of Informatics Problems.
NASB scientists develop a test bench for window and door blocks
The State Scientific and Production Amalgamation of Powder Metallurgy of the NAS of Belarus has designed a test bench for window and door blocks. Ongoing tests are completely automated and mechanized using a programmable remote control, electronic dynamometers and electromechanical actuators. For testing you only need one person. NASB SSPA for Bioresources is involved in development of database "Peatlands of Belarus"
To inform a wide range of people with the spread of peatlands in Belarus, with their inherent diverse and unique flora and fauna, as well as to show applied integrated approaches to conservation and management of wetlands of Belarus taking into account the principle of multipurpose landscape planning work on to create a database "Peatlands of Belarus" is going on. Database creation is carried out in the framework of the UNDP/GEF Project "Management of peatlands based on landscape approaches to obtain multilateral environmental benefits" ("Peatlands-2"). Project UNDP/GEF "Peatlands-2" is being implemented by UNDP and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus with the financial support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project partners are the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and others. NASB SSPA for Bioresources carries out scientific support of the state environmental policy in the field of conservation and sustainable use of flora and fauna, natural communities and ecosystems, scientific and technical support for the conservation and use of biodiversity and biological resources as a national heritage of the Republic of Belarus.
Meeting with delegation from Hospital of Traditional Medicine of Guangdong Province of China takes place in NAS of Belarus
On July 7, 2016 in the National Academy of Sciences held a meeting with a delegation of representatives of the Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Guangdong Province of China, headed by the Director of the Division of Nephrology Lew Ksyusheng. From the NASB talks was headed by Aleksandr V. Sukalo, the Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium. The parties held talks on promising areas of cooperation and mechanisms for their implementation. Chinese colleagues talked about their experience in the treatment of renal diseases, including pediatric patients.
Solemn presentation of master's diplomas to graduates of magistracy of Researchers Training Institute
On July 5, 2016 a solemn presentation of master's diplomas to graduates of magistracy took place in the Researchers Training Institute of the NAS of Belarus. The presentation of diplomas was headed by Vladimir G. Gusakov, the Chairman of the NASB Presidium, Academician. He wished the graduates to continue their scientific path within the walls of the NASB organizations.
This year 70 people have got a master’s degree on 8 specialties (biology, art, mechanical engineering and engineering science, applied mathematics and computer science, sociology, physics, chemistry, economics and national economy management). The average score of master's theses defense is 9.1.
United Institute of Informatics Problems takes part in informatization of largest in the country children's polyclinic
The country's largest children's polyclinic, designed for 480 visits per shift, was opened on July 1, 2016 in the capital residential area Kamiennaja Horka-2. The opening ceremony of the 4th City Children's polyclinic was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova, President Assistant — Chief Inspector for Minsk Aleksandr Yakobson, Deputy Minister of Health Igor Lositsky, Chairman of Minsk City Council of Deputies Vasily Panasiuk and Chairman of the Frunze district administration in Minsk Boris Vasilyev.
