Scientific fundamentals of in-process surface quality control during machining. pp. 293--300

Summary: In-process quality control is based on the choice of parameters of the state and behavior of surfaces allowing to establish relationships between the machining conditions and the resulting surface quality governing actual performance of machine parts. The approach has led to the appearance and successful progress of the Bryansk school of machine builders and origination of tribotechnology as a new trend in science..

Alekseev P. G.
Influence of work-hardening on wear resistance and reliability of machines. pp. 301--310

Summary: Comparative analysis is made of the effect of surface topography after work-hardening on wear resistance and reliability of machines parts. Surface plastic strain is found as the most effecient way of reliability improvement.

Suslov A. G.
Technological provision of operation properties and quality of machines. pp. 311--320

Summary: The approach of the author and his disciples to the solution of a problem of the provision of operation properties machines and their components is shown. Correlation of operation properties of parts of machines with the parameters of quality of their working surfaces and technology of processing is revealed. Technology of manufacture and running-in of parts is determined, system approach to the development of new technologies and tools proceeding from functional purpose of processed surfaces is offered. The broadening of scientific tasks which solved by Bryansk technological school and gradual transition to the solution of a complex problem to raise the quality of machines is stated.

Pamfilov E. A.
Features of wear and ways to improve the wear resistance of dies and wood-cutting tools. pp. 321--330

Summary: Some features of wear are discussed under impact and cyclic loads, low temperatures, high velocities, and the action of blank materials on tools. There are proposed new complex manufacturing processes for improving wear resistance of shearing dies and wood-cutting tools based on laser and electric-spark hardening. It provides favorable levels of stress state and density of defects in surface layers, their roughness, waviness, geometric and structural nonuniformity, as well as improved resistance to active media during wear. There are given recommendations on usage of manufacturing processes proposed to increase the life of cutting tools.

Kharchenkov V. S.
In-process control of wear resistance of machine parts by application of multilayered coatings. pp. 331--338

Summary: Various coatings have been tested for wear, friction and running-in parameters. It is demonstrated that extra soft films on the coatings accelerate their running-in and improve the resulting quality and ultimate performance of machine parts.

Averchenkov V. I.
Formalization of technological design methods, providing the required product quality. pp. 339--348

Summary: The author considers methodological approaches to formalization of design methods and choice of progressive technologies which provide the required product quality, decrease of labour content, power-intensity, material capacity and initial cost of their manufacturing for automated decision making in integrated CAD system. Here's also shown the possibility of designing multdimentional mathematical models of technological processes, and separate methods of treatment, for which the author described the principles of their structural and parametrical optimization.

Fyodorov V. P.
Problems of research and improvement of reliability of technological provision for machine elements quality. pp. 349--360

Summary: The author considers the questions of reliability of technological provision for parameters of surface layer condition and operation features of machine elements. The program method of technological research based on using the programmable test rig and measuring systems with computer control is suggested. The author gives the fundamentals of methodology of reliability estimation of technological systems based on quality parameters of treated parts. The results of theoretical and experimental research of parametrical reliability of conventional and prospect technological systems of finish of machine elements surface are given.

Gorlenko O. A.
Technological provision and increasing the operational properties of machine parts. pp. 361--368

Summary: The article deals with the methodological problems of the technological provision of the wear resistance indexes and contact rigidity of the machine parts on the stages of design and technological production preparation and their manufacture. The experimental results of the technological provision and increasing the quality and the operational properties of the machine parts are given in the article.

Tikhomirov V. P.
Contact of fractal surfaces. pp. 369--374

Summary: A technique is developed to estimate the fractal dimension and a relationship is established between the fractal dimension and roughness parameters found from two perpendicular profile traces. The fractal dimension is estimated of equivalent surface. Based on the results as well as on simulation, technique and software are developed to determine contact characteristics of machines components.

Il'itskii V. B.
Provision of productivity of the parts processing by the controling of operational properties and the design parameters of the machine-tool devices. pp. 375--384.

Summary: The problems are considered of design-technological and informational provision of the operational properties of machine-tools and the improvement of their design theory.

Totai A. V.
The technological provision of physical and operational properties of the machine parts surface layers. pp. 385--394

Summary: The article deals with the theoretical and applied problems of the technological provision of wear resistance on the basis of the control over the physical properties of the metal of the machine parts surface layer.

Suslov A. G., Gorlenko A. O., Simkin A. Z.
Life increase of cam mechanism. pp. 395--398

Summary: A method is proposed to improve wear resistance of cam mechanisms. State parameters of surface layers being in contact are estimated using the new complex parameter. This parameter allows us to select such rubbing conditions that wear of cam mechanism parts is minimal and uniform along their contact surface. The suitable stale of surface layer is produced by pulsed electromechanical hardening.

Prediction of wear resistance of laser-alloyed coatings at impact abrasion based on strength criteria. pp. 399--403

Summary: A model for impact abrasion of hard coatings based on contact and failure mechanics has been developed and further supported by experimental findings. Wear is shown to depend not only on coating thickness, geometry, and kinetic impact energy of abrasive particles but mechanical properties of the coating, particularly, toughness or critical coefficient of stress intensity.

State and run-in behavior of fused-on coatings after cutting. pp. 404--410

Summary: Results of experimental studies of the effect of turning conditions upon the state of the fused-on coatings on machine parts are demonstrated. A combination of parameters, including the parameters of surface topography, stress-strain and energy states of the surface, is proposed which reflects the run-in behavior of the fused-on surface of a part at rolling friction with slippage.

Summary: The findings of an investigation into improvement of antifriction behavior of surface layers of steel parts by microalloying with active lubricant-coolants in diamond honing are represented. In the proposed method the removal of the metal is combined with juvenile surface saturation with antifriction compounds of phosphor, chlorine or sulfur which improves wear resistance of mating parts.
