Effect of light and guanyl nucleotides on hydrolysis of polyphosphoinositides in cell membranes of etiolated oat seedlings. pp. 66--69

Summary: Light absorbed by phytochrome was shown to stimulate the phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2) hydrolysis in endoplasmic reticulum membranes isolated from etiolated oat seedlings. The reversibility of red and far-red light photomodulation of PIP2 content was found. In the presence of non-hydrolysed analog of GTP--GTP-g-S the level of PIP2 in membranes was decreased similar to red-light effect. Combined action of red light and GTP-g-S did not result in synergistic response. The non-hydrolysed analog of GDP--GDP-b-S did not change the level of PIP2 even if the samples were irradiated by red light. The conclusion was drawn that G-proteins are located in the direct chain of phytochrome transduction.

Effect of temperature on formation of light-collecting complex of photosystem 2 during greening of etiolated barley seedlings. pp. 70--72

Summary: The influence of heat periodical shock on etiolated barley seedlings and on greening process was investigated. It was reveal ed that content of carotenoids, carrying out the antioxidant function, increased in the etiolated seedlings under the of heat shock treatment. High temperature led to slowing of chlorophyll biosynthesis. LHCP-2 apoprotein content was reduced both in etiolated and in the greening seedlings. The influence of temperature factor on the structural organization of photosynthesis system is discussed.

Modifying action of cytoplasmatic genetic systems on spring wheat tolerance to septorial blotch. pp. 79--82

Summary: It was found that wheat tolerance to septoria glume blotch depends on nuclear genome, plasmon, and environmental conditions. Cytoplasms of Aegilops juvenalis, Triticum polonicum and T. dicoccoides var. spontaneonigrum significantly decrease yield losses caused by the disease in alloplasmic lines which have genomes of wheat cultivars Belorusskaya 12 and Belorusskaya 80. Two latter cytoplasms have the highest breeding value because they do not affect productivity of healthy plants.

Reverse transcription of retroviral genome: role of terminal replication in minus-strand DNA transfer. pp. 83--96

Summary: Retroviral replication requires synthesis of a double-stranded DNA-provirus by reverse transcription of the viral genomic RNA. According to the current model of reverse transcription, the initial short DNA molecule, termed minus-strand strong-stop DNA, is synthesized near the 5' end of the RNA template and then "jumps" to its 3' end via repeated sequences, R regions, available at both ends of the RNA template. Wide size range of the R region in different retroviruses, from 16 to 247 nucleotides, and recently shown possibility of premature strand transfer suggest that extended homology at the R region does not play a crucial role in minus-strand strong-stop DNA transfer. To test this hypothesis, we have generated Mo-MuLV based retroviral vectors that have either the full-length 5' R region deleted variants. The retroviral vector lacking 5' R region was able to replicate and gave the virus titve 60-fold lower than the vector with full-length R region. This result indicates that minus-strand DNA transfer can be realised in absence of R region and, probably, there is a specific mechanism promoting the process.

Gravity field dynamics during Pripyat Trough formation. pp. 92--95

Summary: The concept of the Pripyat Trough tectonogenesis is considered below. It is based on the formation of some plume-fluid energetic source (an asthenospheric lense) which was formed in the asthenosphere beneath an ancient suture zone. Energy of the source is mainly spent for transformation of the substance in the lower part of the lithosphere into plastic state and also for formation of a basalt layer of melts at the level of eclogitisation. Stages of the Pripyat Trough formation are distinguished. Gravity field curves are shown for each stage. Described gravity field paleodynamics complicated changes of the field during the Trough formation.

Crowbarotron -- new device for controllable discharge of capacitor banks. pp. 120--122

Summary: The paper describes a crowbarotron -- a new device for implementing the programmable discharge of several (in the present case -- five) capacitor banks on the inductive load. The crowbarotron consists of an air spark gap (trigatron) and five crowbar (target) electrodes. The radially expanding arc plasma of trigatron following discharge of the first capacitor bank by sequertial contact with crowbar electrodes switches on the rest capacitor banks. The necessary time-delay switching is automatically provided by the geometry of crowbar electrodes.
