Statics and friction torque in imperfect spherical roller bearing. pp. 194--199
Summary: A contact problem is solved for imperfect spherical roller whose elements are made with errors. The load on rolling bodies and associated contact displacements are found from the balance equation. The roller is represented as a set of thin sections which are in individual contact with counterbody. Formulas are derived for displacements of the bearing center. The results is compared with that obtained by simulation of radial stiffness of the spherical bearing. Special-purpose software APM WinBear for the simulation enables the radial, lateral and axial run-out caused by production error to be calculated in hundred positions of the bearing.

Triboengineering of friction couples of braking devices operating with repeated brief actuations. pp. 200--206
Summary: A method of comprehensive solution of the problem of rational engineering of type and dimension ranks of metal-to-plastic friction couples of braking devices operating with repeated brief actuations is disclosed. The physical simulation model of wear integrates the process of thermoelastic variations of the friction surface of the counterbody in a couple. The results of studies of the dynamics of origination of the contact contour area of the braking friction couple are demonstrated. The method of optimization of friction couples is based on a mathematical model employing a system of equations of thermal friction and wear dynamics and a LP-search algorithm.

The problem is solved with consideration for state of runway (wet, dry, rough) and the performance of tracking system. The numerical solution employs parameters of TU-154 airplane without regard for the lateral load on the wheels.

Development of applied software for simulating shape variations of sliding friction guide couples exposed to wear. pp. 213--217
Summary: The novel application software allows to simulate the processes of contact and wear of the guides of sliding friction couples with due account of the features of fabrication processes and the conditions of their operation. The simulation methods are based on the regularities of the statistical process of contact and the separation of an elementary volume of the material over actual contact sites in friction, together with the application of the algorithms simulating these processes. The software allows to predict well in advance variations of the parameters of precision of the movable member of a friction couple, including the most intricate multifaceted arrangements of guides, bearing systems of operating mechanisms exposed to random external effects upsetting the axial direction of responses along the edges of the guides.

Promotion of wear resistance of titanium alloys by ion-plasma thermal treatment. pp. 224--226
Summary: Thermochemical ion treatment, such as ion nitrogentation and alpha particle implantation, is reported to be an effective tool of promoting wear resistance of titanium alloys. It is demonstrated that the phase composition is determined by the composition of the atmosphere in which a greater concentration of the saturating component intensifies generation of nitrides and oxides on the surface. Wear resistance of the alloys is determined by the surface phase composition, meanwhile nitride and oxide phases impair it. Ion nitrogenation has an advantage over alpha implantation particle because it creates a more stable saturation process. Nitrogenation is best achieved in the inert atmosphere of argon or helium being more effective in the latter.

Influence of structural factors on wear resistance of nitrided steels. pp. 227--230
Summary: The results are shown of structure investigation of nitrided layers on different steels as well as their wear resistance at lubricated friction. The wear was determined with the help of different laboratory tests. It was found that the maximum wear resistance all of investigated steels corresponds to structure of nitrided layer with the medium level of crystal lattice distortions of basic phase and with the uncoherent nitrides. The maximum hardness for all of investigated steels corresponds to structure of nitrided layers with the high level of crystal lattice distortions and with coherent nitrides.

Summary: The results of structure investigation of nitrided layers on steels as well as wear resistance are shown. It was found out that the maximum wear resistance for all investigated steels corresponds to high ability of deformation hardening.

Summary: The influence is studied of carbide phase on wear rate of the alloyed steel. The possibility is shown of wear resistance increase for carbirized steel under conditions of microcutting and adhesion of metal surfaces. The ambiguity is found of the carbide phase effect on contact endurance. Mathematical model is developed for prediction of chemical and phase composition of the carbirized alloyed steel as well as its wear resistance.

There is no one-way correlation between abrasive wear resistance and hardness -- it depends on metals nature, type and regime of its treatment, allowing receiving metals hardness of a specific level.

It is mentioned that efficiency, reliability, and ecological effect of machines depend on efficiency of tribosystems, so it is necessary to educate the engineering staff. For this education the permanent workshop "Triboengineering" is established and Scientific and Methodological Council for discipline 071200, where the discussion on research and engineering problems proceeds, as well as formulation of training programs for a new discipline.
