Stress state of two-layered elastic body under the condition of interface imperfect adhesion. pp. 289--296
Summary: Two-layered elastic body model is used to analyze the influence of geometrical and mechanical characteristics of surface layer and substrate and the boundary conditions at the interface on stress field in the body. The conditions at the interface model the imperfect adhesion of the layer and substrate, taking into account the relative displacements of the boundary points. The solution of the axisymmetric problem is obtained by using Hankel transform and iteration methods. The results show that the stresses within hard thin coatings essentially depend on the parameter characterizing the imperfect adhesion.

On friction of rough surfaces separated by a thin liquid layer. pp. 306--311
Summary: The normal and tangential stresses as a function of mutual position are calculated that appear due to formation and breaking of capillary bridges in relative motion of model rough surfaces. The average friction force dependence on the roughness amplitude, on the liquid film thickness and the surface separation is analyzed. It is shown that the friction force increases in increase of the layer thickness up to some critical value, then friction disappears within the framework of the given model.

Correlation of acoustic emission characteristics from friction unit' surface and tribological characteristics. pp. 312--317
Summary: A model of arising acoustic emission under a alteration of the surface energy of friction unit has been developed. A alteration of the surface energy is defined by wear. Worked-out theoretical dependence of acoustic emission radiation under tribological characteristics is confirmed by the experiment. An intensity of acoustic emission is proportionate of sliding velocity and wear's intensity, and decreases using expotentional dependence with the growth of the coefficient of demolishing, which is defined by the internal friction. Besides geometrical characteristics of characteristics have influence over the intensity of acoustic emission.

Determination of the effective heating depth of the disc brake pad. pp. 318--322
Summary: Effective depth of the frictional heating of brakes elements is offered to find by the formulas, received from the solution of the nonstationary axi-symmetric heat problem for half-space, which is heated in the circular area of a free surface by a frictional heat flow. The thermal regime of operations of the fritional pad of a disk brake at emergency braking of a tractor "Belarus" is calculated.

Catastrophic types of wear: galling, scoring, seizure. pp. 331--343
Summary: Mechanisms of catastrophic wear under sliding friction and conditions of transition between them are considered. Experience in the area of investigation of galling process confirms that there are several sufficiently different types of catastrophic wear. Hot and cold galling conception (I. V. Kragelskii) and two kinds of seizure (B. I. Kostetckii) were developed. Concepts of real and ideal galling threshold and new definitions of galling, scoring, scuffing and seizure are suggested.

Role of adhesion of lubricating oil during friction at boundary lubrication. pp. 350--354
Summary: Technique is presented of determination of adhesion of grease to solids by measuring the pressure of diffluence of oil drop on surface sample. Designed technique was applied at complex study of processes of friction and wear of protective coatings in combination with laboratory test of wear at boundary lubrication. Results are given of investigation of adhesion of grease and wear resistance of sprayed metal coatings. On the basis of results theoretical generalization is made reflecting friction mechanism of sprayed coatings.

Diagnosis of lubricity of mesogenous substances by probing. pp. 361--365
Summary: The probability of using probing technique to diagnose lubricity of mesogenous substances is discussed. The agreement between the results obtained by probing and those of friction tests as well as their conformity with the present-day knowledge on lubricating action of used additives prove the efficiency of probing at the stage of designing lubricants with given properties.

Influence of cyclization degree on tribochemical processes in polyimides. pp. 370--375
Summary: The effect of cyclization degree of polyimides on frictional properties and tribochemical processes of polyimides is studied on irregularly structured polyimide containing aminoacidic (A) and imidic (B) units in the macromolecular chain, prepared by thermal cyclization of polyamidoacid based on 3,3',4,4'-tetracarboxydiphenyloxide and 4,4'-diaminodiphenyloxide. It is shown that friction of the polymer containing polyamidoacidic units is accompanied by degradation of the main chain, amide linkages and scission of the cartioxyl groups. Presence of water in the friction zone may result from cyclization and facilitate tribohydrolysis of the amide linkages. Friction of the polymer containing mainly imidic units is accompanied by reduced rate of the main chain tribodegiadation. The main product produced at degradation of the imidic cycle is carbon dioxide that facilitates the effect of tribochemical lubrication. Correlation between the imidization degree, the nature oftribochemical processes and frictional properties is established.

Summary: Formation of surface microstructures in austenitic and ferritic materials under conditions of severe friction has been investigated. Surface layer (20 ¸ 40 µm in thickness) with fragmented structure has been found on specimens to be the result of the adhesive friction and seizure. Plastic flow of this layer defines tribotechnical properties of materials in friction and wear.
