Summary: An effector secreted by alga-eating Daphnia magna Straus fed with Scenedesmus acutus Meyen cells is shown to contain. at least, two fractions, one of which slowed down scenedesmus culture growth, while the other -- speeded up the growth of alga culture. Growth parameters changed by effector action are shown to be retained after effector has been removed. The effector fractions are supposed to act, most probably, on epigenetic control level.

Influence of culture medium on morphometric parameters of Scenedesmus acutus Meyen culture. pp. 8--10.
Summary: The fraction of Scenedesmus acutus Meyen cells in coenobial form is shown to depend on culture medium quality. In Cho-10 medium coenobial cells make up 70-80%, while in Tamiya medium -- less than 25%. Addition into cultures of Daphnia magna excreted consument-factor increased the coenobial cells fraction in Tamiya medium and decreased it in Cho-10 medium. Using ultrafiltration the consument-factor component able to induce colonia formation in scenedesmus culture on Cho-10 medium as well was isolated. The daphnia excreted biotic factor is supposed to contain at least one matter able to induce, and one matter able to repress coenobia formation in scenedesmus cultures. The inducer/repressor ratio may, possible, depend on ecofactors combination and may determine morphometric transition trends in scenedesmus populations.

Estimation of steroid glycosides effect on germination of cereals seeds with different viability. pp. 19--22.
Summary: The effect of steroid glycosides on germination of wheat -- and triticale seeds with different germination capacity was studied. It was revealed that with reduction in seed viability, activity of steroid glycosides, aimed at intensification of major properties of these substances or change in their effect for the opposite one, increases. Based on the analysis of cereals response, steroid glycosides are classified among natural growth regulators with a high effect selectivity linked by seed species and their viability. Selectivity of the steroid glycoside effect on seed germination was revealed to be associated not only with exogenous concentration but, apparently with the endogenous content and transformation of these substances.

Summary: Among the lines produced on the basis of a new self-fertility source more that 30%(36,4) display preharvest germination resistance (PGR) of grain in spike above 70% and are a promising material for breeding self-fertile PGR donors. The cultivar Otello has a high concentration of plants with high PGR. Hybrids produced from crossing Otello with self-fertilite lines are also a promising material for developing self-fertilite PGR sources.

Absence of radioactive response in males of Drosophila melanogaster under test of recessive lethal mutation. pp. 47--49.
Summary: The paper concerns the study on radioadaptive response in males of Drosophila melanogaster at different spermatogenesis stages using the test of recessive lethal mutations. No radioadaptive response was revealed at the stage of mature spermia and spermatids under the used experimental conditions. Probably, it is associated with the fact that the mutations considered are predominantly point damages of chromosomes which are poorly identified by the repair systems and are badly repaired. An adaptive response is directly related to the repair system operation.

Development of low-temperature chlorophyll fluorescence during step-wise biogenesis of photosynthetic apparatus in greening leaves of barley. pp. 54--56.
Summary: The kinetic of low temperature Chl fluorescence in local sites of greening etiolated leaves during stepwise development of photosynthetic apparatus was investigated. It was shown that alteration of the intensity both long-wavelength and short-wavelength fluorescence have an undulating character. In doing so, the minimum of intensity of Chl fluorescence was observed in the periods of transition to the accelerating in Chl accumulation. Plausible reasons of Chl fluorescence decrease in these periods are discussed.

Influence of lead on structural-functional state of membrane and vesiculation of humane erythrocyte. pp. 57--60.
Summary: Influence of lead acetate on structural-functional state of human erythrocyte membrane and separation of free-spectrine vesicles from erythrocytes were studied. It is shown that after 3 hr of exposure at 37°C the erythrocytes with 2-10 µМ lead acetate tend to increase osmoresistence of erythrocytes and change of parameters of fluorescent lipophylic probe pyrene incorporated into erythrocyte membrane. But in so doing no changes in the activities of membrane-bound NADH-methemoglobine reductase were observed. The reserved data testify that effect of lead on human erythrocytes in vitro causes change of physico-chemical state membrane lipide and raises a level of vesiculations of erythrocytes under conditions of metabolic depletion of cell.

Effect of medium constituents on glucose oxidize production by Penicillium kapuscinskii F-49. pp. 64--67.
Summary: Effect of medium constituents on glucose oxidase (GO) production by P. kapuscinskii G-49 was studied. Active enzyme biosynthesis was found to occur on media with sucrose, maltose, glucose and fructose as the carbon source and NaNO3, КМО3, Ca(NO3)2 as the nitrogen source. Fungal utilization of ammonium nitrogen required presence of СаСО3 in the medium for biosynthesis GO. Malt extract, corn steep liquor, Mg2+ and Fe2+ ions stimulated, while Cl-1 ions inhibited enzyme production P. kapuscinskii G-49. Nutrient medium composition for submerged culture of GO -- producing strain was optimized allowing to raise enzyme synthesis by 1.5 times.

Correlation of nerve growth factors of some hormones in blood serum of healthy people. pp. 94--97.
Summary: The content of b-NGF in the vascular bed of healthy 18-55-year-old donors (n = 21) varied in a wide range from < 10 (resolution limit of the method) to 2506 pg/ml and was, on the average, 527.86 ± 124.74 pg/ml. With ranking of subjects to three groups with different amounts of the nerve growth protein -- 0-500 pg/ml (class I), 501-1000 (class II), and > 1000 (class III), a prevalent number of the subjects (12 or 57%) was classed as I, somewhat less (6 or 26%) as II, and only 3 (14%) as III. Each of the classes had arithmetic mean values of the b-NGF concentration (145.83 ± 36.17, 781.83 ± 33.58, 1549.00 ± 480.08 pg/ml, respectively) significantly different from each other. There is a close statistically significant correlation between the serum content of the growth protein and testosterone (r = 0.44, P < 0.05 and degrees of freedom df = 19), especially considerable (r = 0.88) in class III. In this class, similar relations (r = 0.98) were observed between b-NGF and insulin, with their complete absence between the protein and thyroxine both in groups I-III (r = -0.22, 0.26, and 0.30, respectively) and in those tested (n = 21) as a whole (r = 0.01).
