Dynamics of the accumulation of flavonoid glycosides released by healthy and infected plants of rye. pp. 18--20.
Summary: The dynamics of accumulation of flavonoid glycosides released by healthy and brown rust-infected plants of rye was first studied. Changes in the amount of exogenous flavonoid glycosides were demonstrated in both cases. Basic similarity between the dynamics of secretion of the glycosides and their endogenous accumulation in tissues of infected rye was established; however, the surface accumulation was less pronounced and terminated earlier.

Combined effect of ionizing radiation and melanin on the genetic structure of experimental populations of Drosophila. pp. 31--34.
Summary: Dynamics of the genetic structure in experimental populations of Drosophila melanogaster exposed to the influence of ionizing radiation and melanin was investigated by the frequencies of Adh locus genotypes. Adh-FF genotype was revealed to be the most adapted to the ionizing radiation impact. Melanin administration to the irradiated populations at the beginning of monitoring favoured maintaining the frequency of Adh locus genotypes at the control level. An increase in the frequency of heterozygotes and Adh S-allele was observed after the 10th generation.

Structural modification of erythrocyte membranes under the influence of t-butyl hydroperoxide. pp. 40--43.
Summary: The effect of t-butyl hydroperoxide on the structural and functional state of human erythrocyte membrane has been studied. It is shown that induced t-butyl hydroperoxide oxidative stress in erythrocytes causes a change in the physical and chemical state both of proteins and lipids in the erythrocyte membrane. The sequence of events may be presented as follows: an oxidation of membrane proteins and lipids causes a change of rigidity of the lipid bilayer and results in a decrease in the NADH-methemoglobin reductase activity and structural modification of integral protein band 3.

Effect of low-intensive He-Ne-laser irradiation on the structure oferythrocyte and lymphocyte membranes in blood of children. pp. 44--47.
Summary: The influence of He--Ne-laser irradiation (l = 630 nm) at a dose of 24 J/cm2 at t = 18 ± 2°C on the physico-chemical state of proteins and lipids in lymphocyte and erythrocyte membranes of 8--16 year-old children was investigated in vitro. It was shown that the He--Ne-laser exposure significantly increased the structural stability of erythrocyte membranes and induced minor changes in lymphocyte membranes, which may underlie positive medical effects of laser irradiation of blood.

Intramolecular dynamics of the structure of bacterial alkaline phosphatase during modification of the active centre. pp. 48--51.
Summary: With the help of the tryptophan phosphorescence method at room temperature it was shown that the transition of native alkaline phosphatase from E. coli in to apoenzyme results in a dramatic increase in the large-scale intramolecular dynamics. These changes are associated with a complete loss of the enzyme activity. Reconstruction of an enzyme molecule by including Zn2+ and Mg2 in its structure or substitution of these cations for Cd2+ restores (completely or partially) the structural-dynamic state and enzyme activity of alkaline phosphatase E. coli.

Kinetics of redistribution of porphyrin sensitizers between liposomes and cell membranes. pp. 66--70.
Summary: The study deals with the redistribution of porphyrin sensitizers (chlorin e6, trimethyl ester of chlorin e6, Zn-phtalocyanin) between model and cellular membranes. The kinetics of the porphyrin redistribution is shown to have two phases. The fast phase is the intermembrane transfer, when the porphyrin molecules are located in an other monolayer of lipid membrane while the second phase is related to porphyrin transmembrane transfer. The results obtained are of special significance for understanding the pharmacokinetic behaviour of sensitizers introduced with in lipid vesicles.

Role of medullary raphe nuclei in mediation of vestibular influences on serotoninergic structures of the small intestine. pp. 71--72.
Summary: In experiments on rabbits it was shown that electrical stimulation of the lateral vestibular nucleus (LVN) led to a short-term significant increase in the serotonin content in mesenteric venous blood. After destruction of the nucleus raphe magnus, obscurus and pallidus electrical stimulation of the LVN did not result in an increase in the serotonin level in blood. It is suggested that the medullary raphe nuclei are involved in the mechanism of vestibuloactivating influences on the small intestinal serotoninergic structures.

Effect of interleukin-1b on lipid peroxidation and components of antioxidant system of the liver and spleen in rats during induction of cytochrome P450-dependent monooxygenases. pp. 73--75.
Summary: A decrease in dienic conjugate production, an increase in TBA-reactive products and a significant increase in total sulfhydryl groups in the rat liver and spleen were shown 24 h after intraperitoneal injection of recombinant rat interleukin-1b (IL-1b) against the background of cytochrome P450-dependent monooxygenase induction by phenobarbital. IL-1b is probably involved in potentiation of toxic effects of xenobiotics in the liver.

Biochemical heterogeneity and tissue-specific differences of cartilage collagen proteins in achondrogenesis and hypochondrogenesis. pp. 78--81.
Summary: Collagenous proteins were isolated from a hyaline cartilage of stillborn fetuses with type I B (Fraccaro-type) and type II (Langer-Saldino-type) achondrogenesis and hypochondrogenesis (2 cases). Collagen chains as well as their CNBr-derived peptides were electrophoretically separated. In Fraccaro achondrogenesis both collagen I and II were present, while collagen II was absent in Langer-Saldino achondrogenesis. Collagen II found in hypochondrogenesis was substantially overmodified. In hypochondrogenesis the pattern of collagenous proteins varied depending on the tissue analyzed (rib, articular cartilage, vertebral cartilage). The data provide clear evidence for biochemical heterogeneity of the diseases.

Traveling waves of deformation as a transport mechanism in biological systems. pp. 102--104.
Summary: A transport force wave mechanism which is formed by the traveling deformation waves, running along a flexible string (belt) fixed at the ends, is analyzed in terms of theoretical mechanics and biomechanics. It is shown that this mechanism is capable of transporting a solid body, which is in contact with the string, by the discrete-wave method. The mechanism is simple in design and energy saving. The values of body displacements and driving force of the mechanism are defined. The mechanism is a biological way of transport in cases when increased pushing or pulling forces are needed, for example, for moving large-size prey in the snake oesophagus and in the biomechanism of labor.

Incompatibility in interspecific and intraspecific hybridization of diploid potato and ways of overcoming it. pp. 105--118.
Summary: The available information is analysed about mechanisms of prezygotic incompatibility during interspecific and intraspecific hybridisation of diploid potato and approaches are proposed to overcome it. The types, evolution, models, modem molecular and biochemical data on the nature of gametophytic incompatibility are discussed. The model was further developed, based on the common mechanism of inter- and intraspecific incompatibility. This model makes it possible to explain different cases of intra-, interspecific and unilateral incompatibility, the mechanisms of action of methods used to overcome it. New approaches for circumventing interspecific incompatibility barriers are discussed. These are diploid bridge-lines, produced on the basis of rare sexual interspecific hybrids or dihaploids of somatic hybrids, and also bridge-lines lacking the stylar S-RNases.
