Continued growth and recidivation of vestibulocochlear neurinomas. pp. 5--9

Summary: The problems of recidivation and continued growth of vestibulocochlear neurinomas are considered on the basis of 311 observations of patients with III--IV clinical stage of the disease. 30 (9.6%) patients were reoperated. 18 (7.2%) patients had the recidivation after total removing of neurinomas, 5 (15.2%) patients -- after subtotal removing. Average time of the observation was 49.9 mon. and 24.6 mon respectively. The continuing grows of the tumor after its partial removing was noted in 7 (24.1%) cases. Residual part of the tumors capsule usually left on the brain stem or facial nerve at subtotal removing of tumors was a reason of recidivation only in one (3.6%) case. A very good enduration of repeated surgical procedure was noted in all cases of recidivation or continued growth of vestibulocochlear neurinomas. A conclusion that one of the ways of reduction of postoperative mortality must be an expansion of the evidences to partial removing of the tumor in cases accompanied by somatic pathology and to subtotal removal in cases with the difficulties of tumor capsule microdissection from the brain stem and facial nerve was made.

Extracorporeal correction of homeostasis and intensive treatment of systemic diseases of connective tissue. pp. 10--19

Summary: A new methodic approach to the assessment of readings for performing an extracorporal correction of homeostasis and an intensive therapy of SDCT patients has been developed and implemented on the basis of the complex analysis of the SDCT pathogenesis, as well as on the basis of the nature and mechanisms of the therapeutic effect of plasmatheresis, ultraviolet modification of the blood. The application of autoplasma has been grounded in patients with SDCT in the process of conducting an efferent therapy based on the study of the nature of influence of crioprecipitation and sorption on exposed carbonic sorbents on certain immunological, biochemical, hormonal and reological plasma indices. An optimal method of plasmapheresis for the treatment of patient with SDCT has been developed with substantiated technological indices -- crioplasmapheresis with plasmosorption (CPA with PS). The application of ultraviolet modification of the blood its combination with CPA with PS has been grounded and implemented into the combined medication and efferent therapy of patients with SDCT.

Cation composition of cerebrospinal fluid and blood serum in rabbits during acute stage of experimental pneumococcal meningitis. pp. 25--29

Summary: In the time of experimental bacterial meningitis it has been observed the increasing of sodium concentration (Na+) in serum and CSF, as well as the reduction of calcium concentration (Ca++) in CSF. Concentrations of potassium (K+) in serum and CSF did not have essential distinctions in the course of experiment. These sodium concentration changes can lead to limitation in common use of osmodiuretics during purulent meningitis. Concentration of sodium in CSF stated normal on influence of Actovegin.

Antioxidant protection enzymes and state of erythrocyte membrane lipids in premature newborns. pp. 35--40

Summary: Antioxidant enzymes activity and state of erythrocyte membrane lipid bylayer in preterm newborns in early neonatal period have been studied. The decreased superoxiddismutase activity and changed erythrocytes membranes lipid bilayer microviscosity in preterm newborns suffering from respiratory distress-syndrome who subsequently developed intraventricular hemorrhage have been found. The correlation between blood pH and Kex of pyren in the neonates with respiratory distress-syndrome within the first week of life has been established. The revealed correlation between pH and Kex suggested, that acidosis might exert negative influence on membranes.

Changes in ethanol metabolism and antioxidant system activity in the liver of hypothyroid rats after chronic alcohol intoxication. pp. 41--45

Summary: The thyroid hypofunction was provoked by treatment with mercazolil at a dose 15 mg/kg. Liver alcohol dehydrogenase activity was increased by 44% in hypothyroid rats with chronic alcohol intoxication as compared to control animals. The ethanol level in hypothyroid rats was decreased by 52% compared to the controls. The rate of liver microsomal hydroxyl radicals formation in vitro was inhibited 18% by mercazolil and chronic alcohol treatment as compared to the rats, treated only with ethanol. A significantly higher glutathione level and lower MDA level were noted in the liver cytosol of hypothyroid rats treated by alcohol as compared to the euthyroid ethanol-intoxicated rats. Glutathione reductase and glutathione transferase activities were also significantly increaesed in hypothyroid rats subjected to chronic alcohol administration. No significant changes in catalase, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities were found in the above groups of experimental animals compared to the control animals. It was suggested that thyroid hormones deficiency produced by mercazolil treatment prevents the developtment of oxidative stress in the liver of chronically alcohol-intoxicated rats.

Evaluation of phagocytic function of rat alveolar macrophages contacting with multilamellar anionic liposomes. pp. 64--67

Summary: A creation of liposomal containers for delivery of drugs to the respiratory tract includes the aspect of a possible interaction between lung cells and liposomes (LS). The aim of the present study was an estimation of the influence of multilamellar anionic LS on phagocytosis by alveolar macrophages (AM). AM were isolated from bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of rats. After the incubation with LS (phosphatidylcholine: cholesterol: stearic acid, molar ratio 10:0.5:0.2 and a-tocoferol 0.02 mg/mg lipids) for 1 h and 24 h AM showed a significantly decreased capacity to phagocytose live Staphylococcus aureus in dose-dependent manner compared to AM which were incubated without LS. Regulators of cell metabolism (phorbol miristate acetate, ATP, cAMP and terbutaline) did not change the liposomal inhibiting capacity. The data obtained show that multilamellar anionic LS after they got into the respiratory tract and contacted with lung cells could decline the phagocytic function of AM.

Enteroviral heart infection in patients with myocarditis and cardiomyopathy. pp. 73--79

Summary: Our work was dedicated to reveal valuable diagnostic markers of enteroviral heart infection in patients with myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). A range of serological, immunohistochemical and molecular methods was applied to investigate different clinical (sera, CSFs, nasopharingial swabs, heart biopsy specimens) and autopsy (heart and spleen) samples. It was laboratory-proved that ECHO 30 virus (the causative agent of enterovirus infection outbreak in Minsk, 2003) existed in organism of children with acute myocarditis. Presence of enteroviral RNA was shown in some part of specimens from patients with chronic heart diseases (in 25% of patients with chronic myocarditis, in 50% of patients with DCM and in 40% of children with cardiomyopathy). An evidence of active enteroviral replication (replicative RNA-intermediate) was found in 5--16.6% of them. We showed also that simultaneous enterovirus infection of heart and immune system organs (spleen) took place in 21.1% of patients with chronic heart diseases. Obtained data may be interesting for specialists in heart diseases prevention, diagnostics and treatment.

Epibrassinolide effect on bone marrow and thymus cells. pp. 80--83

Summary: Intraperitoneal injection of epibrassinolide in dose of 500 mg/kg resulted in the level increase of polychromatophilic erythrocytes with micronuclei by a factor of 5 as against the pure control beginning in 36 hours. Injection of sodium chloride solution with Twin-40 addition led to an increase of the aberrant cell level of 3- fold in 24 hours and injection of pure sodium chloride solution resulted in a double increase in the level of the some cells in 48 hours. This process took place against the background of an increase in the thymus cells number with membrane lesion. The number of such cells was significantly higher than in all other runs 36 hours after epibrassinolide injection.

The role of constitutionally somatotypic peculiarities in the formation of predisposition to major chronic noncommunicable diseases. pp. 89--95

Summary: The aim of our investigation was to study the correlation of the constitutionally somatotypic peculiarities with the level of death from major chronic noncommunicable diseases according to the data of the 20-year prospective survey. A total of 3832 males at the age of 40--59 years from the city of Minsk were selected at random and underwent the initial examination at the Republican Research and Practical Center "Cardiology" within the period 1978--1985. Standard methods of epidemiological investigations and expanded anthropometry with further somototyping were used. The 20-year prospective survey included the registration of all cases of myocardial infarction and death from ischemic heart disease, cere-brovascular diseases, malignant neoplasms, diseases of respiratory organs, death from all other causes. It was established that within the 20-year prospective survey individuals of the hypersthenic somatotype, determined by Pinie's index or by metric index, died reliably more frequently from ischemic heart disease (10.2%) and cardiovascular diseases (15.1%) as compared with individuals of the asthenic (7.1% and 12.0%) and normostenic (7.5% and 9.6%) somato-types, respectively. The higher frequency of death from malignant neoplasms (8.3%) and diseases of respiratory organs (1.2%) was characteristic of individuals of the asthenic somatotype in comparison with hyperstenic (4.1% and 0.4%) and normostenic somatotypes (5.3% and 0.8%), accordingly. Within the 20-year prospective survey the constitutionally somatotypic predisposition to the diseases of cardiovascular system was established in individuals of the hyperstenic constitution and to malignant neoplasms and diseases of respiratory organs -- in individuals of the asthenic constitution.

Effect of photodynamic treatment on reological properties of donor blood and laboratory animals. pp. 96--101

Summary: The experimental investigation of influence of photosensitizer on the Theological properties of donor blood (in vitro) and laboratory rats (in vivo) was implemented. Chlorin e6 was used as a photosensitizer (FS). Donor blood or rat skin were exposed to laser with wavelength 680 ± 10 nm. Concentration of the FS for human blood was 71 ug/ml of blood. Animals were injected with the FS dose that is equivalent to 10 µg/kg of body mass. It was determined that without light exposure the FS does not change the hematocrit value and the rheological properties of human blood. For rats it leads to the considerable increase in hematocrit value. Saturation of the donor blood with oxygen, addition of chlorin e6 and light exposure during 5--15 sek leads to increase in consistency parameter on 26%. Apparent viscosity of rat blood increased on 40% after the light exposure with dose within 22.5 and 180 J/sm2. Reliable changes in nonlinearity index of exponential theological model caused by the light impact were not registered.

Combined method of upper limd function restoration in traumatic injuries of brachial plexus by muscle and tendon-muscle transposition. pp. 109--114

Summary: An analysis is made of the outcomes of surgical operations for Brachial plexus' traumatic injury manifested in a lost active flexion function of the forearm and extension function of the hand and that of the fingers, in 5 patients. A combined method is offered, consisting of two stages, that has allowed to restore the forearm's active flexion function by the transposition of Pectoralis major or Latissimus dorsi, and active extension function of the hand and fingers by transposing the tendons of radial and ulnar hand flexors on the flexor surface of the forearm with the fixation of the radial hand flexor tendon to II--V finger extensor tendons, and ulnar hand flexor tendons -- to the extensor pollicis longus tendon. The combined muscle and tendon-muscle transposition method is apparently an efficient way to restore active flexion function of the forearm and active extension function of the hand and fingers following traumatic Brachial plexus injuries, which has allowed to achieve good results of the upper limb's restored function in all the operated patients.
