NAS of Belarus to host conference ahead of 75th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders

On 27-28 June 2019, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus, the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus hold an International scientific and practical conference "Operation Bagration" ahead of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders.

The solemn opening will take place on 27 June at 11:00 in the Large Conference Hall of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus (66 Independence Ave., 2nd floor).

About five hundred leading scientists, historians, archivists from Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Germany, Lithuania, representatives of law enforcement agencies, students and cadets of higher civil and military educational institutions, public figures and students will take part in the conference. The conference will address the following issues: modern approaches to the coverage of the history of the Great Patriotic War (problems of historiography and source studies); Nazi occupation policy in Belarus; guerrilla movement and underground struggle in the occupied territory of Belarus; Soviet military art during the liberation of Belarus (1943 – 1944); the beginning of the restoration of the national economy of the BSSR; the Great Patriotic War in the historical memory of the people.

On 27 June 2019, a collection of the Red Army newspaper will be donated to the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in an official ceremony by Director of the German publishing house ENOS Klaus-Dieter Zentgraf.

The forum will include exhibitions of unique archival materials, military literature and technology. A mobile canteen will work in the courtyard of the Academy of Sciences, where one can taste the soldier’s porridge.
