Meeting of Interdepartmental Commission on Antarctic Issues held

On August 28–29, 2019 an expanded working meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission of the Republic of Belarus on Antarctic Issues was held at the NAS of Belarus. The event was attended by a delegation of Roshydromet and the Russian Antarctic Expedition of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Institute of the Arctic and Antarctic” (St. Petersburg). The progress of the 2018–2019 activities plan on implementation of the provisions of the Antarctic Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Russian Federation was reviewed. Plans for scientific and logistical cooperation in 2019–2020, including those within the framework of the 12th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition and the 65th Russian Antarctic Expedition, were also discussed.

According to the results of the meeting, Deputy Head of the Republican Center for Polar Research of the NAS of Belarus, Head of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition Alexei Gaidashov said: "During the meeting, the Russian Federation confirmed the long-term support of our transport and logistics schemes. We can still count on the associated delivery of our personnel and cargo." The meeting participants also discussed such an important point as an approximate logistics scheme for the next season.

During the visit, a meeting with Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov was held. At the meeting, Anna Bystramovich, Deputy Head of the Roshydromet Department for Organization of Scientific Research and Expeditions, Alexander Klepikov, Deputy Director, Head of the Russian Antarctic Expedition of the Roshydromet Federal State Budget Institution “Institute of the Arctic and Antarctic” and Vladimir Kuchin, Deputy Head of the Logistics Center of the Russian Antarctic Expedition, were handed Certificates of Honor of the NAS of Belarus.

Members of the delegation visited the permanent exhibition of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus “Native Science Achievements – to Production.”
