V. F. Kuprevich Institute of Experimental Botany holds seminar “Strategy for limiting the spread and eradication of giant cow parsnip and other dangerous invasive plant species”

On 17-19 September, the V. F. Kuprevich Institute of Experimental Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus holds a scientific and practical seminar with international participation “Strategy for limiting the spread and eradication of giant cow parsnip and other dangerous invasive plant species.”

The seminar is aimed at sharing experiences and coordinating efforts to develop and implement a science-based set of measures to control invasive species.

The seminar will address the issues of limiting the spread and eradication of giant cow parsnip and other dangerous invasive species (Solidago canadensis, Echinocystis lobata, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, etc.), as well as the prospects for their use as renewable sources of plant raw materials with high biological activity.

The seminar discussion will allow exchanging new knowledge and experience of research, obtaining additional information about the achievements and ways in this research area, new approaches and methods of solving urgent problems.

The main directions of the scientific and practical seminar:

  • Ways of limiting the spread and eradication of dangerous invasive species;
  • The use of invasive plant species as a renewable resource of biologically active substances;
  • Monitoring and forecasting the spread of dangerous invasive species.

The seminar will bring together experts from specialized scientific institutions of Belarus and neighboring countries, ministries, city and regional committees, Minskzelenstroy, and interested parties. It is planned to visit the sites in Minsk (Kurasovshchina Park) to get acquainted with the results of using the effective method of eradicating Sosnowsky's hogweed developed at the V. F. Kuprevich Institute of Experimental Botany.

The scientific and practical seminar will be attended by experts from research institutions and higher educational institutions of Belarus and Russia.

The opening session will be held on 17 September at 10:00.
