NAS of Belarus to hold major international forum on UNESCO’s World Philosophy Day

On 14 November 2019, the Fourth International Scientific Conference “Intellectual culture of Belarus: cognitive and prognostic potential of socio-philosophical knowledge” will start its work at the Institute of Philosophy of the NAS of Belarus. The conference is held in conjunction with the UNESCO’s World Philosophy Day celebrations (the third Thursday of November). It continues a series of scientific-expert, publishing and educational activities held by the Institute of Philosophy entitled "Intellectual Culture of Belarus."

More than 250 scientists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Moldova and Poland will take part in the conference on 14-15 November, 2019. Among the participants are 2 academicians of the NAS of Belarus, 2 corresponding members of the NAS of Belarus, over 50 doctors of sciences and 120 candidates of sciences. Conference working languages: Belarusian, Russian, English. The conference includes plenary session, section sessions and round-table discussions.

The plenary session (14 November, 12:00) includes a presentation of the book "Academician Vyacheslav Styopin: the mystery of the long path" dedicated to the outstanding Belarusian-Russian scientist, philosopher, teacher, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, honorary Professor of the Belarusian State University Vyacheslav Styopin (1934-2018). Besides, the winners of the Republican stage of the International Baltic Philosophy Essay Competition for schoolchildren will be awarded at the plenary session.

The conference issue is related to the disclosure of cognitive and prognostic potential of social and philosophical knowledge. Its relevance is caused by the fact that the modern dynamic situation in the world requires philosophical and theoretical understanding and forecasting, deep analysis of its ontological foundations. The conference will discuss the status, ideological, epistemological and logical-methodological functions of social philosophy as a discipline, its place in the structure of philosophical sciences and humanities in general, cognitive and prognostic potential of social and philosophical knowledge, its increasing importance in modern conditions, the main directions of research and factors that allow more efficient use of the results to develop practical solutions for the harmonization of social processes. To that end, a substantive dialogue will be arranged between representatives of the scientific community, education, public authorities and administration.
