National Academy of Sciences of Belarus

Training of scientific personnel

One of the main tasks of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is to create conditions for the development of scientific schools, the training of highly qualified scientific workers, and the advanced training of scientists and specialists. The Academy of Sciences provides training of highly qualified scientific and pedagogical workers through doctoral studies, postgraduate studies, applications and magistracies; it has a specialized state educational institution "Institute of the training of scientific personnel".

The Academy of Sciences promotes the improvement of the scientific level of the national education system, participates in the training of specialists with higher education, and enhances the qualifications of the teaching staff of institutions providing higher education. In accordance with its Charter, the NAS of Belarus can act as a founder of commercial and non-profit organizations, including research and training of highly qualified scientific personnel, educational institutions with university status.

Magistracy

In order to increase the level of training of scientific personnel, reduce the time of preparation for the defense of Ph.D. theses, as well as better selection of young graduates of higher educational institutions for further postgraduate studies, since 2007, in the system of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, training has begun with higher education of the second level (magistracy), which is carried out by the state educational institution “Institute for the Training of Scientific Personnel of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus”. Education in an academic magistracy is carried out on a full-time basis on a budgetary and paid basis on the basis of license No. 022100/462, issued by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus. Duration of study - one/two year(s).

Graduates of the academic magistracy 2019

The master student work plans include listening to lectures with passing exams and tests in the specialty and special courses, performing under the guidance of a supervisor and defending a master's thesis, preparing for a candidate minimum and passing candidate exams and differentiated tests in general educational disciplines. The number of teachers involved in the master’s study process includes academicians and corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, leading scientists and specialists of scientific organizations of the National Academy of Sciences, teachers of the Institute for the Training of Scientific Personnel of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Belarusian universities.

Postgraduate School

The main form of scientific training at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus since its inception has been postgraduate study. On December 23, 1930, in order to systematically train scientific personnel in the republic and improve the scientific and methodological management of this work, the Council of People's Commissars of the BSSR adopted a resolution “On the training of graduate students”, according to which the training of graduate students was concentrated at the Belarusian Academy of Sciences. On January 12, 1931, the Institute of Postgraduate Studies was created in the system of the Academy of Sciences, to which postgraduate students from higher educational institutions were seconded. It is believed that since that time in Belarus began systematic training of highly qualified scientific personnel.
Currently, organizational and methodological and coordinating functions for the training of scientific personnel through postgraduate studies in scientific organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus are carried out by the Institute for the training of scientific personnel created in 2001. As of January 1, 2017, 533 employees of the National Academy of Sciences underwent training Belarus and a specialist of the national economy of the republic, including 294 - full-time, 105 - part-time studies, in the order of competition - 134 post-graduate students worked on their theses. 11 foreign students from Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Syria, and Turkmenistan are enrolled in the graduate school of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
