86th Meeting of Executive Committee of World Federation of Scientific Workers to be held on September 19-23, 2016 in Minsk
On September 19-23, 2016 the 86th Meeting of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Scientific Workers will be held in Minsk. The event will bring together leading scientists from France, China, Portugal, Japan, Russia and other countries. "Climate Change: the Role of Alternative Energy" will be the main theme of the scientific symposium, which will take place in the framework of the event. The topics to be discussed are as follows: trends in climate change, the development of scenarios of sustainable development of power systems, combining terrestrial and satellite remote sensing for monitoring the transboundary transport of pollutants in the Eastern European region. A Round table and a scientific discussion will be devoted to the climate change and alternative energy.
Catalog of Completed Developments of NAS of Belarus in 2011-2015 released
The Belaruskaya Navuka Publishing House released the Catalog of Completed Developments of the NAS of Belarus. The publication includes information on 199 innovative developments of the NASB organizations, completed in 2011-2015 in all areas of scientific and applied activities of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The Catalog presents brief characteristics of developments, indicates their scientific and technical level, readiness for development, provides information on security documents, export potential and contacts for development of mutually beneficial cooperation with the NAS of Belarus organizations.
Young scientists of NAS of Belarus to compete in scientific battles of first Belarusian project in Science Slam format
On September 16, 2016 a Scientific Ring which is the first Belarusian project in the format of scientific battles, or Science Slam, which is very popular around the world, starts in the Minsk High Technologies Park. The Scientific Battles will be attended by young scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, universities specialists and independent experts with experience in the field of science. The main purpose of the project is to create a community of scientists who are really interested in the popularization of science, as well as to enable a broad audience to get acquainted with unique researches and technologies developed by Belarusian specialists.
Conference "Sapiehas: Persons, Careers, Estates" held at NASB Institute of History
On September 8–9, 2016 the NAS of Belarus Institute of History jointly with the Polish Institute in Minsk held the conference Sapiehas: Persons, Careers, Estates.
Sapiehas magnate clan left a significant mark in the history of Belarus during the 16th to 18th centuries and it is no less well-known than the famous clan of Radziwills. Therefore, the study of Sapiehas activities is an important aspect of historical studies, which involved many Belarusian and foreign researchers.
Competition on Electro-Mobility in framework of EU ERA-NET Cofund Electric Mobility Europe project coming nearer
The EU program "Horizon 2020" has accepted to finance a new project ERA-NET Cofund “Electric Mobility Europe” (2016–2021).
Such projects as ERA-NET Cofund are aimed at coordination of research programs of the EU countries and interested third countries and joint funding of researches on the project subject by the European Commission and the participating countries. The partners of such projects are the organizations that fund national research programs, namely ministries, agencies, research foundations. Concearning the Belarusian realities these are state customers. Thus, 23 ministries and organizations from 15 countries, including the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus are members of the consortium ERA-NET Cofund "Electric Mobility Europe". The total project budget which is formed by virtual partners’ contributions (estimated value of researches on electromobility, funded in their countries by partner organizations) and the European Commission's contribution (33% of total partners’ contributions) is 30 mln euro.
Grand opening of International Scientific Conference "Problems in Rational Use of Natural Resources and Sustainable Development of Polesie" to be held on September 14, 2016
On September 14, 2016 (Wednesday) at 10.00 a.m. the Grand opening of the International Scientific Conference Problems in Rational Use of Natural Resources and Sustainable Development of Polesie will be held at the NAS of Belarus (66 Independence Avenue, Minsk, large conference room). The conference, which will be held on September 14–17, 2016, will bring together more than 300 scientists and specialists, including 80 from foreign countries: Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Germany. 280 reports on a wide range of issues related to efficient use and protection of natural resources, social and economic problems of preservation of historical and cultural heritage will be presented by the participants of the conference. The Forum is held by the NASB together with the Academies of Sciences of Russia, Poland and Ukraine, the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, the State Committee for Science and Technologies of Belarus, the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research, Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
Scientists of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus awarded state awards of Republic of Belarus
According to the Presidential Decree of September 5, 2016 № 331 a large group of workers in various fields was awarded state awards for longstanding fruitful work, exemplary fulfillment of their duties, professionalism and dedication in an emergency situation, achievement of high indexes in the petrochemical industry and construction, considerable personal contribution to the development of the military-industrial complex of the Republic, scientific and pedagogical activities, health care and medical care, education, arts and culture. Among the awardees there are scientists and specialists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of NAS of Belarus to host event on occasion of receiving gift of books from Academic Library of University of Latvia
On September 7, 2016 at 11:00 the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the NAS of Belarus will host a solemn event on occasion of receiving gift of books from the Academic Library of the University of Latvia which is one of the oldest libraries in Europe.
One can find books on history, science, culture, ethnography, linguistics, archeology, architecture, etc. among the editions.
Within the event a presentation of the exhibition "Belarus and Latvia: Dialogue between the Two Cultures" will be held. Representatives of the Republic of Latvia Embassy in the Republic of Belarus will participate in the opening ceremony of the exhibition.
Opening ceremony of 23rd International Conference on Isoprenoids held at NAS of Belarus
On September 5, 2016 the opening ceremony of the 23rd International Conference on Isoprenoids was held at the NAS of Belarus. The event brought together more than 60 leading and young scientists from 15 countries worldwide. As Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium Aleksandr V. Sukalo noted at the opening, holding of the International Conference on this subject in Minsk meant that the world scientific community had recognized and appreciated the results of Belarusian scientists.
Agreement on Establishment of Technical Advisory Board between NAS of Belarus and LG Electronics Inc. is signed
On September 2, 2016 the Agreement on Establishment of Technical Advisory Board was signed by the NAS of Belarus and LG Electronics Inc. at the NAS of Belarus. From the NAS of Belarus the Agreement was signed by the First Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium Sergei A. Chizhik, the LG Electronics Inc. side was represented by the Vice-President Mr. Chong Soo Lee.
According to Sergei A. Chizhik, the Agreement is a significant event for both the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and for the whole country, it "implies cooperation in a variety of directions. Three major directions, such as new materials, cooling systems and green technologies (water and air filters, etc.) has been chosen for the first step of cooperation". The First Vice Chairman of the NASB Presidium also said that the Technical Advisory Board included ten strongest Belarusian scientists who would work throughout the year for the submission of projects for LG's review and further implementation of these projects in the form of contracts.
Researchers Training Institute of the NASB holds celebrations in honor of Day of Knowledge
The Researchers Training Institute of the NASB held celebrations in honor of the Day of Knowledge. Undergraduates were congratulated by the Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov. Addressing young people, V. Gusakov noted that youth was one of the top priorities for the Academy of Sciences. He said: "We try to make young scientists to be under constant protection." Vladimir Gusakov noted that the National Academy of Sciences prepares highly qualified scientists itself, and it does not forget to solve their housing problems.
NAS of Belarus holds meeting of organizing committee on preparation and holding International scientific and practical conference "25 Years of the Commonwealth of Independent States: Results and Prospects"
On August 31, 2016 the NAS of Belarus held the third meeting of the organizing committee on preparation and holding the International scientific and practical conference "25 Years of the Commonwealth of Independent States: Results and Prospects". The Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov and the First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee, Executive Secretary of the CIS Vladimir Garkun participated in the meeting.
The organizing committee discussed in detail organizational and financial issues of the preparation for the Conference, as well as issues concerning plenary session, sections and subsections, summing up the Conference outcomes and adoption of the outcome document of the Conference, and also cultural program for the participants. According to the Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov, the NASB has already fulfilled a number of organizational activities in preparation for the forthcoming forum.

Towards 23rd Day of Belarusian Written Language
From August 29 to September 2, 2016 CTV TV channel (Stolichnoe Televidenie) daily broadcasts a cycle of interviews with the Deputy Director for Science of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics Siarhei Haranіn on Belarusian written language, book culture and education. The cycle is devoted to the 23rd Day of Belarusian Written Language which will be this year celebrated in Rogachev (Gomel region) on September 3–4.
