Research and Development Centre to be built at Academpharm premises
On 6 August 2018, the grand opening of the landscape complex in honor of the construction of Research and Development Centre took place at the state enterprise Academpharm of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The event was attended by a delegation of the Indian pharmaceutical company Cipla Limited headed by Dr. Yusuf Khwaja Hamied, Non-Executive Chairman of the company, honorary member of the NAS of Belarus.
USSR pilot-cosmonaut Pyotr Klimuk awarded diploma of honorary member of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus
On 25 July 2018, the Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov presented the diploma of honorary member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to the USSR pilot-cosmonaut Pyotr Klimuk. Pyotr Klimuk is an astronaut, well-known scientist, doctor of technical sciences, full member of the Russian Academy of Cosmonautics named after K.E. Tsiolkovsky, Academician of the International Academy of Informatics, Corresponding Member of the International Academy of Astronautics.

The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus announces a contest of 100 talents of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in 2018.
The competition is held in order to implement measures to attract and consolidate talented young people in the scientific, technical and innovation spheres; to create youth research groups and rejuvenate the staff of scientific organizations; to ensure continuity between scientists of different generations.
Call for applications for exhibition "Festival of Science - 2018"
On 8 September 2018, "Festival of Science – 2018" dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Academy of Sciences and the City Day will be organized at the Central Botanical garden of the NAS of Belarus. The festival is a mass scientific and educational event designed for 8-10 thousand visitors in one day on the subject of science. The purpose of the event is to arouse interest in science among students, to strengthen the prestige of science in society, to tell about the achievements of Belarusian and world science. In connection with the active involvement of students and young scientists in the Festival, an effective system is being created to ensure the continuity of generations and the development of sustained interest of the younger generation to research work. Academic institutes, universities, scientific and educational projects, museums of science, as well as children's creativity centers and robotics clubs will take part in the event.

The NAS of Belarus announces the Contest for Prizes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for 2018.
Prizes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus are awarded for outstanding scientific results obtained in joint research in natural, technical, humanitarian and social sciences which have important scientific and practical significance. Russian and Belarusian scientists who are citizens of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus and work in scientific organizations subordinate to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and in scientific organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus can participate in the contest. Works or series of joint works carried out by a team of scientists from research organizations subordinate to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus can be presented for the contest.
Belarus receives status of associate member of Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research
Belarus represented by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus received the status of an associate member of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR). The news was reported by Alexei Gaidashov, Deputy Head of the Republican Center for Polar Research of the NAS of Belarus, Head of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition, who is now participating in the SCAR meeting in Davos, Switzerland.“I am pleased to report that on 25 June 2018 a unanimous decision to approve the Republic of Belarus represented by the NAS of Belarus as an associate member of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research was adopted at the SCAR meeting. Many years of the NASB staff teamwork in this direction received a high evaluation of the international Antarctic Community and allowed our country to enhance significantly its scientific status among the countries exploring the Antarctic region and open new opportunities for the development of international scientific cooperation in Antarctica,” Alexei Gaidashov said.
Large international forum on cell technologies to be held at NAS of Belarus on June 27-29, 2018
On 27-29 June 2018, the International Scientific Conference “Molecular, Membrane and Cell Bases of Biosystems Functioning” and the 13th Congress of Belarusian Public Association of Photobiologists and Biophysicists will be held in Minsk. The conference will open on 27 June 2018, at 9:30 a.m.
The international conference is a large-scale scientific forum with a wide geography of participants. More than 200 leading scientists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Poland, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Lithuania and Latvia will take part in the conference. The scientific forum will highlight the results of research conducted in the field of biophysics, cell engineering, molecular biology and nanobiotechnology. The international conference contributes to the expansion of international cooperation, the establishment of new and development of existing scientific contacts, and the implementation of joint international scientific projects. It will also allow attracting talented young people to research.

President of Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts visits NAS of Belarus
On 17–20 June 2018, a delegation of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU) headed by its President Academician Dragan Vukčević visits Minsk at the invitation of the NASB leadership.
On 18 June 2018, Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov held talks with the CANU President Dragan Vukčević at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The parties discussed possible areas and mechanisms for cooperation between the Academies, promising joint projects, exchange programs for scientists and issues of financing of research projects and research visits of foreign specialists. As a result of the negotiations, the Montenegrin and Belarusian parties highlighted the significant potential for strengthening cooperation and agreed that the results of their joint scientific activities should primarily be aimed at obtaining benefits for the economies of the two countries. Thus, the parties identified their cooperation priorities, namely joint research projects in the field of humanities, social and natural sciences, including projects on a contract basis; participation in conferences and other scientific events; exchange of scientific information; organization of special programs for the exchange of scientists and scientific personnel training.
NAS of Belarus and China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited to cooperate in field of smart electricity networks
On 15 June 2018, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited signed a memorandum of understanding. The document was signed by Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov and Chairman of the Board of the Chinese company Wang Jianping.
According to the document, the parties agreed to collaborate across a broad range of disciplines of fundamental and applied research and work together to commercialize research output. Belarusian and Chinese specialists will develop cooperation in strategic planning, joint research and training of personnel in order to implement innovations in providing service platforms and technical support for the process of building smart electricity networks.
Prominent oncologist, Corresponding Member of NAS of Belarus Iosif Zalutsky passes away
On 13 June 2018, a famous oncologist, Director of the NASB Institute of Physiology, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Iosif V. Zalutsky died at the age of 68 after a serious long illness.
Iosif Zalutsky is a prominent scientist in the field of oncology. His main scientific research focused on the development and introduction of methods of reconstructive and plastic surgery in the combined and complex treatment of malignant tumors. Using extensive experimental and clinical material, I.V.Zalutsky for the first time in the CIS countries conducted fundamental research, which allowed to justify the possibility of applying microsurgical technologies in oncology. He developed such a priority research area as the study of possibilities of reconstructive and recovery operations as a leading link in the medical rehabilitation of cancer patients, and that was an important milestone in the development of domestic oncology.

The Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus invites to the interdisciplinary master class «The Activation of Creativity: Model 5+». The event will be held on 14 June 2018, at 3:00 p.m.
The abilities to create original ideas, critically comprehend established approaches to solving scientific problems, and optimize the research process are important components of scientific research. The master class will focus on the problem of activating the creativity of an individual. It will share the author's model of creativity and the mechanisms of its implementation.
NAS of Belarus participates in Days of Belarusian Science in Autonomous Region of Sardinia
On 4–9 June 2018, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus participates in the Days of Belarusian Science in the Autonomous Region of Sardinia (Italy). The delegation of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus under the leadership of the NASB Chief Scientific Secretary A.V. Kilchevsky came at the invitation of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Belarus on the island of Sardinia to represent the Belarusian scientific potential.
The Days of Belarusian science are held by the leaders of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia in cooperation with the University of Cagliari, the Global Community of Longevity and under the patronage of the Embassy of Belarus in Italy.

On 5 June 2018, representatives of scientific and analytical centers and business circles of Hong Kong (PRC) visited the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The visit aimed at discussing the prospects for cooperation.
The Chinese and Belarusian parties exchanged views on the results and prospects for the implementation of the projects of the One Belt One Road Initiative on the territory of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. They also discussed directions for the development of Belarus and China scientific, trade and economic cooperation.
