PROKOPCHUK Nikolay Romanovich

Nikolay Romanovich Prokopchuk (b. 07.02.1948, Mogilev), physical chemist. Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2004), Doctor of Chemical Sciences (1989), Professor (1995).

Research in the field of chemistry, physics and technology of high-molecular compounds. Theoretically substantiated and experimentally confirmed the relationship between the activation energies of degradation of polymers in the solid and liquid states; developed a method for estimating total intermolecular interactions in amorphous regions of polymeric materials; founded a new direction in predicting the deformation and strength properties of films, fibers and coatings under the influence of energy fields and chemical reagents on them; He proposed and introduced into the system of certification tests rapid methods for predicting the durability of plastic pipes, PVC profiles for windows and doors, tiles made of thermoplastics, polyurethane foam insulation, rubber products, etc. He proposed methods for producing super-fibers, films and coatings of a special purpose for special equipment. Created stabilized thermoplastic and elastomeric materials with increased photo- and thermal stability, fatigue endurance, low toxicity. Develops environmental, resource and energy saving directions: recycling of polymeric materials; creation of modern paintwork materials.

Author of more than 600 scientific papers and textbooks, incl. 2 monographs and 55 copyright certificates and patents for inventions.

Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in 2005.
