ERMOLENKO Igor Nikolaevich

Igor Nikolaevich Ermolenko (02.04.1932, Minsk – 22.09.1991), chemist. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1986; corresponding member since 1972), Doctor of Chemical Sciences (1965), Professor (1967).

Works in the field of physical chemistry of fibers and films of polymers and heat-resistant materials. Established the laws of a number of processes of oxidation, thermolysis, photolysis and some esterification reactions of cellulosic materials. Synthesized new cellulose derivatives, including cellulose ethers and inorganic polyacids. He created a new type of polymer non-silver and low-silver photosensitive materials, finding a new property of polymers with acid groups. He proposed the use of ion-exchange fibrous sorbents for sorption during air purification and as substances for growing plants.

Author of over 450 scientific papers, incl. 5 monographs, 200 inventions.

Awarded with the Order "Badge of Honor" (1981), medal.
