VOLODKO Leonid Vikentevich

Leonid Vikentevich Volodko (02.01.1928, v. Borovoye, Dzerzhinsk district, Minsk region – 29.09.1978), physicist. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1977; Corresponding Member since 1969), Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences (1966), Professor (1967). Honored Scientist of the BSSR (1971).

Works on molecular spectroscopy and luminescence. He obtained a number of important results on the effect of intermolecular interaction on dichroism, polarization and luminescence kinetics of crystals of uranyl compounds, on dynamic light scattering, optical activity and infrared dichroism of liquid crystals, on the formation of spatial structures and the electrical conductivity of phenol polycondensation products. Developed methods and devices for controlling the deformation of work elements and Q-modulators of solid-state lasers, statistical recording of the luminescence kinetics in the nanosecond range, liquid-crystal indicators of the distribution of laser radiation in the infrared range.

Author of more than 120 scientific papers, 14 inventions.

State Prize of the BSSR in 1974 for research on the structure of liquid crystals using infrared dichroism.

Awarded with the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1971), Friendship of Peoples (1977), medals.
