On May 18-19, the Third International Forum of Researchers of Belarusian Fairy Tales and Mythology to be held in the NAS of Belarus

On May 18-19, 2023, the Centre for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Researches of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is holding the III International Forum of Researchers of Belarusian Fairy Tales and Mythology.

The forum will be attended by scientists from Belarus, Russia, Poland, Estonia, Abkhazia. The program includes a plenary session and the work of sections of the International Scientific Conference Folk Fairy Tale Prose in the European Space: Archaic Tradition vs Modern Interpretation, performances by storytellers of the older generation and winners of the children's competition of the Belarusian folk tale performers, round tables Modern Literary Fairy Tale: Between Fiction and Truth and Belarusian Mythology: From Authenticity to Mystifications, exhibitions of thematic publications and illustrations for fairy tales collections.

On May 18, at 9:30 a.m., the opening of the III International Forum of Researchers of Belarusian Fairy Tales and Mythology and a plenary session will take place in the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (Surganava str., 15). Exhibitions of illustrations based on folk tales, art projects which won on republican contests, book publications will be shown from 9:00 a.m. The Musical Chapel of the Centre for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Researches of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will perform in front of the visitors.
The sessions of the sections will be held from 02:00 p.m. at the address: Surganava str., 1, building 2. The sections The State and Features of The Fairy-Tale Tradition in Modern Society. Fairy Tale and Mythology in The Discourse of National Identity"; "Poetics and The System of Images of Folk Tales. Fairy-Tale Plots and Motifs in Literature"; "Literary Fairy Tale, Its Development, Transformation, Interaction With Folklore"; "Interpretation of Folk Tale and Myth in Visual, Theatrical, Musical, Screen Art and Media Space" will be held. In parallel, an open round table Modern Literary Fairy Tale: Between Fiction and Truth will be held.

May 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (at the address Surganava str., 1, building 2 in the auditorium 302) a round table Belarusian Mythology: From Authenticity to Mystifications will be held, and at 12:00 a.m. there will also be a screening and discussion of Belarusian animated fairy tale films. In parallel, from 12:00 a.m. to 01:00 p.m., master classes on crafts will be held: stuffing and making birds from straw.
At 02:00 p.m., the Central Scientific Library (Surganava, 15) will host performances by masters of the fairy-tale genre and a summing up of the results of the children's competition of the Belarusian folk tale performers. Regular guests will perform Lyudmila F. Glukhatarenko (Saniuki village, Jelski district), Alexander N. Galkovsky (Sudzily village, Klimavicki district), Lilia P. Rezkina (Viciebsk), as well as storytellers-legends Ekaterina Al. Panchenya from Plastok village of Zhytkovicki district and Ivan F. Suprunchik from Cerablichy village of Stolinski district.

For reference: within the framework of the Forum, a Children's competition of the Belarusian fairy tale performers for participants under 17 years old was held. The children had to make a video in which a participant tells a Belarusian folk tale and post the video on social networks (Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc.) with the appropriate hashtags. The expert jury summed up the results of the competition and determined the winners. The best videos will also be presented during the Forum, and the winners and participants will receive prizes from the partners of the forum – the company Belgosstrakh and the Minsk Watch Factory Luch, the Mastatskaya Litaratura Publishing House.
