Head of the Department of the Institute of History of the NAS of Belarus Andrey Voitekhovich awarded the honorary title of Minsk Citizen of the Year

Andrey Voitekhovich, Head of the Department of Archaeology of the Middle Ages and Modern Age of the Institute of History of the NAS of Belarus, was awarded the honorary title of Minsk Citizen of the Year.

The honorary title Minsk Citizen of the Year is awarded annually by the Minsk City Executive Committee for high achievements in work, significant personal contribution to the socio-economic and cultural development of the capital and other merits. This year, 13 nominations were presented. In the field of higher education and science, the honorary title was awarded to the Head of the Department of Archaeology of the Middle Ages and Modern Age of the Institute of History of the NAS of Belarus Andrey Voitekhovich. Candidate of historical sciences, associate professor has been engaged in medieval archaeology for more than 20 years. Now Andrey Voitekhovich is working on an important project for the country – an archaeological complex on the Mienka River. As the scientist noted, "We are conducting large-scale excavations there to establish whether this area is the site of the original Minsk. If so, we will create an archaeological museum there, another object for tourists and Minsk residents."

Among the 13 winners who were awarded the honorary title of Minsk Citizen of the Year are doctors, teachers, representatives of aviation, education, construction and cultural workers. These people are of different professions, but they are all united by one goal – to make the capital and the country even more prosperous with their work.
