Press conference held on the topic On the Preparation and Holding of the Science Festival 2023

On September 13, 2023, a press conference was held at the National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus on the topic On the Preparation and Celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the International Association of the Academies of Sciences (IAAS). The Chief Scientific Secretary of the NAS of Belarus Vasily Gursky and the Deputy Head of the IAAS, Academician of the NAS of Belarus Pyotr Vityaz dwelt in detail on the events of the anniversary meeting and the importance of the activities of the IAAS in expanding international cooperation of scientists from different countries in key areas of development of modern science.

As Vasily Gursky noted, "The Head of State constantly orients us to the continuous expansion and deepening of international cooperation, including in terms of scientific and technical cooperation. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is developing as a major international scientific center. We cooperate with colleagues from more than 85 countries. The export of scientific and technical products is constantly growing. Cooperation takes place at all levels: scientists go to conferences, make presentations, establish contacts, scientific organizations conclude contracts, implement joint projects. The Academies of Sciences as a whole are also developing cooperation." Deputy Head of the IAAS, Academician of the NAS of Belarus Petr Vityaz stressed that science has no borders and helps to establish ties between peoples, unite efforts. "We are interested in further expansion of IAAS. We invite the SCO and BRICS countries to participate. As for the European and American academies of sciences, they have so far refrained from communicating, but we are open to dialogue and exchange of views," he said.

On September 20–22, 2023, the 36th meeting of the IAAS Council dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Association will be held in the NAS of Belarus. Within the framework of the event, on September 21, a meeting of the Council of Young Scientists of the IAAS will be held. The event will be attended by representatives of Russia, Belarus, three provinces of China, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cuba, Vietnam, Mongolia, the Kyrgyz Republic, etc. A number of important issues will be considered at the meeting. The participants will discuss the main results of the IAAS activities, the activities of the scientific councils of the IAAS and the creation of new scientific councils, the admission of a new member to the IAAS, the election of full members (academicians) of the IAAS and other important issues. The heads of the academies of sciences will focus on issues of further mutually beneficial cooperation in key areas of development of modern science, leading scientists from various countries will make scientific reports.

For reference: The International Association of the Academies of Sciences (IAAS) unites 26 organizations (academies of sciences of the CIS countries and other countries, universities, large scientific centers). Since 2017, the functions of the basic Academy of Sciences in the organizational and methodological support of the IAAS are performed by the NAS of Belarus, and the Head of the IAAS is the Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, Academician Vladimir G. Gusakov. The highest governing body of the IAAS is the Council of the IAAS. IAAS has 26 scientific councils in major scientific fields, which include leading scientists in the field of biology, virology, nanotechnology, geology, history, science studies from the CIS countries, China, etc.
