On September 13–14, 2023, the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics of the Center for the Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature Researches of the NAS of Belarus hosted the II International Scientific Conference Modern Problems of Onomastics (to the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Academician N. V. Birillo).

The scientific forum was attended by leading Belarusian scientists, as well as linguists from Russia, Uzbekistan, and Transnistria. The reports considered topical issues of toponymy and anthroponymy research, problems of ordering onomastic terminology, characterized the use of onymic vocabulary in works of fiction and folklore texts, noted the role of toponymy in the study of the country’s history, taking into account its socio-economic, landscape, climatic features in different epochs.

A round table was also held within the framework of the event Nikolai Vasilyevich Birillo: the Versatility of Personality. The role of the academician in the study of topical issues of onomastics, the modern Belarusian language, dialectology and terminology was noted. The round table was attended by relatives and colleagues of Nikolai V. Birillo, who shared their memories of the linguist’s personality.
