On September 21, 2023, the 36th meeting of the Council of the International Association of the Academies of Sciences (IAAS) was held, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of its foundation. The day before, a meeting of the Council of Young Scientists of the IAAS was held.

The event was attended by presidents and representatives of the leadership of the national academies of sciences of Russia, Belarus, three provinces of China, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Vietnam, Mongolia, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and other countries. Heads of leading scientific centers also took part in the work of the Council of the International Association of the Academies of Sciences. Among them are the Kurchatov Institute (Russia), the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, the Russian Academy of Education and others.

As Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov noted before the meeting, today scientists need cooperation in solving major scientific problems. "We will exchange information about both successes and unresolved tasks and problems, and outline our cooperation for the long term. We will discuss the latest challenges, digitalization, artificial intelligence, the creation of smart systems, microelectronics, biotechnology. We will also consider the issues of climate change. Cooperation is very important for solving complex scientific problems," said the Head of the IAAS.

At the meeting of the IAAS Council, welcoming words were read out from the State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev, from the Secretary General of the CIS Sergey Lebedev, from the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Academician of the IAAS Mikhail Myasnikovich. The President of the International Scientific Council (ISC) Peter Gluckman sent a video greeting to the participants of the meeting.

The heads of the academies of sciences focused on issues of further mutually beneficial cooperation in key areas of modern science development, leading scientists from different countries made scientific reports. The participants discussed the main results of the IAAS activities, the activities of the IAAS Scientific Councils and the creation of new scientific councils and other important issues.

The ranks of the association have been replenished with a new member. The Cuban Academy of Sciences has been elected a full member of the IAAS Association.

The nomination to full members (academicians) of the IAAS took place. These are scientists who have been elected presidents of national academies, heads of major research centers, as well as persons who have made a significant contribution to the development of our Association.

Within the framework of the official 36th meeting of the Council of the International Association of the Academies of Sciences, a graduation ceremony was held for foreign members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, elected by the General Meeting of the NAS of Belarus at the session on December 17, 2021.

There was also a ceremony of awarding the flag of the IAAS, the certificate of membership in the IAAS to the member organizations of the IAAS, the jubilee medal and diploma of the IAAS, the diplomas of the academician of the IAAS.

The participants of the 36th meeting of the Council of the International Association of the Academies of Sciences (IAAS), dedicated to the 30th anniversary of its foundation, adopted the final document, the Declaration of the Council of the International Association of the Academies of Sciences – On the Development of Science in the Member Countries of the IAAS.

At the end of the 36th meeting of the IAAS Council, a tree planting ceremony was held on the IAAS Alley in the Central Botanical Garden of the NAS of Belarus. Trees were planted in honor of the Academy of Sciences of Guangdong Province, the Academy of Sciences of Shandong Province, the Russian Academy of Education, the Academy of Sciences of Heilongjiang Province.

The next meeting of the IAAS Council will be held in Moscow in 2024.
