As reference:

Ivan Ivanovich Nosovich (October 7, 1788 – August 6, 1877) was a linguist, lexicographer, ethnographer, folklorist, teacher and public figure who extremely fully and comprehensively reflected in his activities the life of the Belarusian people of the XIX century, its spiritual world.

Ivan Nosovich's pedagogical activity took place in various regions of the Northwestern Krai of the Russian Empire, where he got acquainted with the idiom of local residents, studied the peculiarities of their speech, collected lexical material and recorded folklore texts. Ivan Nosovich is known as a folklorist and ethnographer, the compiler of folklore collections of Belarusian proverbs and saws, riddles, songs, legends, but language work occupies a primary place in his scientific activity. The researcher created a unique historical dictionary "Alphabetical index of old words extracted from the Acts Relating to the History of Western Russia published in 1853", which was highly appreciated by the special commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The main scientific work of Ivan Nosovich is the Dictionary of the Belarusian Language (1870), which included more than 30 thousand words recorded by the author in Mogilev, Vitebsk, Minsk and Grodno governorates. During the life of Ivan Nosovich, the Dictionary received a high scientific assessment, the author himself was awarded the Demidov Prize. This is the first major study in the field of Belarusian lexicography, which influenced the formation of East Slavic dictionary activities. The dictionary has not lost its significance today: it is an important source of vocabulary, phraseology and grammar of the Belarusian language of the XIX century, it gives an idea of the pronunciation, word formation and stylistic features of the Belarusian word, as well as about the philosophy and worldview of our people, its spirit and understanding of the world.
