Avant-garde team of the 16th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition to go to the Ice Continent in early November

АThe avant-garde team of the 16th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition will go to the Ice Continent in early November. This was announced on October 3, 2023 at the meeting of the Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov with the participants of the 16th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition. The event was dedicated to the preparation for the new season of 2023–2024. As Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov noted at the meeting, "The main thing is that the expedition should be cohesive and ready to perform important state tasks. And the main task is the development of our station in Antarctica." Addressing the participants of the expedition, Vladimir Gusakov stressed that polar explorers should remember that they represent the country and should work harmoniously and efficiently. Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Alexander Kilchevsky, Head of the Republican Center for Polar Research Vladimir Ryzhikov, Head of the BAE Alexey Gaidashov, Deputy Academic Secretary of the Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences Vladimir Levashkevich, Director of the Institute of Environmental Management Sergey Lysenko, academician Vladimir Loginov and other participants of the meeting told about the work on the implementation of logistics, technical, organizational and research tasks of the 16th BAE.

According to the Head of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition Alexey Gaidashov, work on the implementation of logistical, technical, organizational and research tasks of the 16th BAE is proceeding as planned. This year, 13 people will go to Antarctica. The team consists of 7 specialists who already have experience in Antarctica and 6 people are beginners. An important point is that researchers make up half of the expedition.

At the meeting in the NAS of Belarus, all issues related to the implementation of a set of organizational and logistical measures aimed at preparing and holding the 2023–2024 season were discussed in detail, scientific and technical measures to be carried out by the participants of the 16th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition within the framework of the subprogram Development of the Belarusian Antarctic Station of the State Program Scientific and Innovative Activity of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for 2021–2025 were discussed.
