Work of the subcommittees for the 2024 contest for the State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus launched

On November 9, 2023, the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, under the leadership of the Chairman of the Committee on State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov, held a working meeting on the organization and holding of the competition for the State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus 2024. It was attended by the heads of two subcommittees, the subcommittee in the field of science and technology and the subcommittee in the field of literature, art and architecture, their deputies, as well as the executive secretaries of the subcommittees.

Vladimir Gusakov stressed at the opening of the meeting: "The Committee on State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus is charged with preparing proposals for the Head of State on awarding State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus. The President of the Republic of Belarus has entrusted us with the selection of the best of the best works, the authors of which deserve to bear the name of the Laureate of the State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus. The purpose of today's meeting is to launch the work of the subcommittees for the 2024 contest for the State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and technology and in the field of literature, art and architecture."

Today, the meeting outlined the procedure for holding meetings of subcommittees in the field of science and technology, literature, art and architecture, as well as the procedure for expert review of works.

To participate in the competition for the State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus in 2024, 12 works have been nominated, which will undergo multi-stage consideration. No more than six prizes will be awarded by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus.

As known, the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus is a testimony to the highest recognition of the merits of representatives of science and technology, literature, art and architecture to society and the state. State prizes are provided in the form of the State Prize in the field of science and technology and the State Prize in the field of literature, art and architecture.

The President of the Republic of Belarus awards three state prizes in the field of science and technology to citizens of Belarus once every four years (since 2016) for outstanding works, discoveries and scientific achievements, the results of which have significantly enriched domestic and world science and technology, had a significant impact on the development of scientific and technological progress and on the improving the economy’s efficiency, ensuring public health and environmental protection. Also, three state prizes are awarded in the field of literature, art and architecture for outstanding works deep in content and distinctive in form (works of literature, art and architecture, achievements of performing skills), significantly enriching national and world culture, contributing to the affirmation of universal values and ideas of humanism.

The composition of the Committee on State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus is formed in coordination with ministries and departments and includes 68 people. These are major managers, practitioners, outstanding scientists, masters of art, literature and architecture of the Republic of Belarus. Among them, 39 experts are included in the subcommittee on State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and technology, 26 experts are included in the subcommittee in the field of literature, art and architecture. The Presidium of the Committee consists of 5 people (among them are the heads of the subcommittees).
