Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz visits the State Enterprise Akadempharm

On November 11, 2023, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz visited the State Enterprise Akadempharm, where he met with representatives of the scientific and medical community of Belarus. According to Manuel Marrero Cruz, Belarus and Cuba should find new opportunities to develop cooperation in the field of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. "We need to increase our cooperation. This topic can have a good effect not only for Belarus, but also for the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. Cuba is an observer at the EAEU. We believe that this may be one of the directions through which we can enter this market. Cuba is ready to become a window for Belarus to enter the Latin American market, and Belarus can become a window for Cuba to enter the EAEU market. In the field of science and innovation, we see an endless space for interaction and cooperation on a mutually beneficial basis," concluded the head of the Cuban government.

During the meeting with the Prime Minister of Cuba, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov stressed that Belarus is open to cooperation with Cuba in all spheres of scientific activity. He noted that the visit of the Cuban delegation and the interest in the developments of the NAS of Belarus are another vivid confirmation of the role of science and technology in the process of sustainable development of the economies of Belarus and Cuba. The NAS of Belarus attaches special importance to cooperation with scientific and industrial organizations of Cuba, he added. "Over the past year alone, as a result of bilateral visits of our delegations, 66 agreements have been signed, the work on which is currently being actively implemented in our countries. Two drugs were transferred to the Cuban side for registration and two drugs are being considered for registration in Belarus. Ten more such drugs have also been prepared for mutual exchange," Vladimir Gusakov said.

After the talks, the Cuban delegation headed by the Prime Minister visited the medicines production facility. The second production facility of the enterprise is under construction, which is planned to be put into operation in 2024. Currently, about 45 types of medicines are produced at the State Enterprise Akadempharm.

Vladimir Gusakov proposed to Cuba to create a joint pharmaceutical enterprise on the basis of the State Enterprise Akadempharm. Vladimir Gusakov recalled that the Prime Minister of Cuba had already raised the issue of creating a joint pharmaceutical production. "We propose to consider the creation of such an enterprise on the basis of the State Enterprise Akadempharm. Moreover, there is every reason for this, because the second phase of the enterprise is already being built. For example, this production can be created jointly with the Cuban concern BioCubaFarma", said the Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus.

At the end of the meeting, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the State Enterprise Akadempharm, Unitary Enterprise Center for Examinations and Tests in Health Service and the Cuban concern BioCubaFarma.
