National Academy of Sciences of Belarus holds a regular meeting of the Scientific Council of the IAAS on Agrarian Problems

On November 16, 2023, a regular meeting was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus via videoconference of the Scientific Council on Agrarian Problems (hereinafter referred to as the Scientific Council) of the International Association of the Academies of Sciences (hereinafter – IAAS) chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, Corresponding member Pyotr Petrovich Kazakevich, who is the Co-Chairman of this Council.

Currently, the composition of the Scientific Council on Agrarian Problems of the IAAS includes 29 people from 6 countries, including: 13 from Belarus, 10 from the Russian Federation, 2 from Kyrgyzstan, 1 from Azerbaijan, 1 from Georgia, 2 from Kazakhstan.

Scientists from six countries took an active part in the event: Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan. The agenda of the meeting of the Scientific Council included issues of updating new members and reports on the topic Ensuring Food Security of the Member Countries of the Scientific Council.

3 new members were admitted to the Scientific Council, including:

– in 2022, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Irina Mikhailovna Donnik, Assistant to the President of the Kurchatov Institute, was included in the members of the Scientific Council on Agrarian Problems as a co-chair;

– In 2023, based on the results of international cooperation, 2 representatives from the Russian side were included in the Scientific Council – Academic Secretary of Agro- and Biotechnologies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan Safin Khalil Masgutovich and Director of the Vologda Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences Shabunova Alexandra Anatolyevna.

Implementation of the Food Quality Achievement System

Speaker: Alexey Viktorovich Meleschenya, Director General of the Scientific and Practical Center of the NAS of Belarus on Food, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor.

Strategy of Ensuring National Food Security of the Republic of Belarus in the Context of Global Trends

Speaker: Andrey Vladimirovich Pilipuk, Director of the Institute of System Studies in the Agro-Industrial Complex of the NAS of Belarus, Corresponding member, Doctor of Economics, Professor.

Scientific Support of the Crop Industry in the Republic of Belarus

Speaker: Dmitry Vladimirovich Luzhinsky, Deputy Director General for Scientific Work of the Scientific and Practical Center of the NAS of Belarus on Agriculture, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor.

Providing Training in the Field of Food Security in the Republic of Kazakhstan

Speaker: Aitzhan Mukhamedzhanovich Abdyrov, Member of the Board, First Vice-Rector, Doctor of Pedagogy, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician of APSK.

The Co-Chairman of the Scientific Council Pyotr P. Kazakevich noted the important role of agricultural science in ensuring food security of the Republic of Belarus. The work of the agricultural organizations of the Academy of Sciences on scientific support affects all areas of the agro-industrial complex: it ensures the creation and introduction into production of the latest highly productive varieties and hybrids of agricultural plants, foodstuffs, animal breeds, modern high-performance agricultural machinery and equipment.

The participants of the meeting proposed to hold the next meeting of the Scientific Council in October-November 2024 on the topics: the machine system as the basis of modern efficient agricultural production technologies or genomic methods in livestock.
