On November 28, Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Kilchevsky took part in the 8th meeting of the Belarus-Venezuela joint commission on trade and economic cooperation, and also acted as co-chairman of the meeting of the working section on science and technology. The Venezuelan side was represented by Ricardo Menendez Prieto, Vice President for Planning, Minister of Planning of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

During the meeting, the participants made presentations of the research and innovation potential of scientific organizations in Belarus and Venezuela. The following areas of cooperation were identified as priorities for the development of bilateral cooperation: biotechnologies, information technologies (including geoinformation systems, spatial analysis and cartography), agriculture, food industry, etc. Agreements have been reached and recorded in the protocol on enhancing cooperation in the field of science and technology, preparing a bilateral agreement defining priority areas of Belarus-Venezuela scientific and technical cooperation, as well as on exploring the possibility of organizing a competition for joint scientific and technical projects.

During the final part of the 8th session of the Belarus-Venezuela joint commission on trade and economic cooperation, Alexander Kilchevsky and Ricardo Menendez Prieto signed a Memorandum of Understanding on interdepartmental cooperation in the field of geography, geomatics and spatial analysis between the Ministry of Popular Power for Planning of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
