Meeting of the Republican Council for Historical Policy held in the NAS of Belarus

On December 5, 2023, a meeting of the Republican Council for Historical Policy under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus was held in the NAS of Belarus under the chairmanship of the Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeenko.

The NAS of Belarus was represented at the meeting by: Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus, Alexander Kovalenya, Academic Secretary of the Department of Humanities and Arts, Vadim Lakiza, Director of the Institute of History of the NAS of Belarus. The members of the Council discussed the development of curricula on the history of the Belarusian statehood for secondary professional education and on the history of Belarus in the context of world history for grades 10; the roadmap for the development of the magazines "Belaruski gistarychny chasopis" and "Gistoryja i gramadaznawstva"; the development of common approaches to the implementation of cultural import substitution, and other questions. Speaking about the preliminary results of the Council's work in the outgoing year, Igor Sergeenko recalled that the Republican Council for Historical Policy under the Administration of the President has been working for the second year: "Last year we shifted the topic of teaching history in higher educational institutions, introduced a course on the history of Belarusian statehood in the country, including with the help of the Council, improved school historical education, whereas this year a new one was the holding at a higher level a number of historical scientific conferences related to the preservation of historical memory and historical truth, including on the basis of the National Academy of Sciences. And cooperation with our partners, first of all with the Russian Federation, was new."

The Republican Council for Historical Policy under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus was established by order of the Head of State on February 4, 2022 - the Year of Historical Memory. The Council includes on a voluntary basis humanities scientists, public figures, representatives of political parties, public associations, the expert community, government agencies and organizations. The key role in the work of the Council is played by the NAS of Belarus, which is entrusted with the organizational, expert-analytical and scientific-methodological support of its activities.
