On February 22, 2024, a press conference was held at the BELTA Press Center on the Achievements and Promising Developments of Belarusian Scientists in the Field of Agriculture.

The press conference was attended by: Dmitry Komlach, Director General of the Scientific and Practical Center of the NAS of Belarus on Agricultural Mechanization; Sergey Kravtsov, Director General of the Scientific and Practical Center of the NAS of Belarus on Agriculture; Natalia Komarova, Deputy Director General for Scientific Work and Standardization of the Scientific and Practical Center of the NAS of Belarus on Food; and Andrey Tchaikovsky, Deputy Director General for Production of the Scientific and Practical Center of the NAS of Belarus on Potato and Fruit and Vegetable Growing. Representatives of the scientific and practical centers of the Department of Agrarian Sciences of the NAS of Belarus spoke about the latest developments of scientists in the field of agro-industrial technologies and answered journalists' questions.

Sergey Kravtsov spoke about the requirements for agricultural varieties and new breeding methods that are being introduced in the NAS of Belarus. "Now the center is moving to a new stage of the breeding process, the introduction of biotechnological methods. To do this, all the equipment has been purchased and installed. Another new direction is genetics: DNA chipping, DNA modeling. The physiology of plants is also important," Sergey Vladimirovich said.

Dmitry Komlach shared the novelties of agricultural technology that will help improve the culture of agriculture. According to him, the level of mechanization of agriculture in Belarus is high. "The work continues. We will try to eliminate all the bottlenecks, develop those mechanisms, machines and equipment that are now in great demand," Dmitry Ivanovich summed up.

According to Andrei Tchaikovsky, every year in the farms of the republic, the planting of potato varieties of domestic selection occupies about 55% of the area, apple and pear trees — about 80%, vegetables — on average 20%. Thanks to the developments of Belarusian scientists, domestic varieties of apricots appeared — Camieja and Liavon. Work is also underway to develop berry varieties for commercial cultivation: remontant raspberries, sea buckthorn, honeysuckle. And for garden strawberries, a drying technology has been created, which allows to preserve the aroma of fresh berries. This is a completely new product for our republic, which was appreciated at the tastings.

Natalia Komarova spoke about the events that are timed to coincide with the Year of Quality at the Scientific and Practical Center of the NAS of Belarus on Food.
