Council for Strategic Projects reviews the development of micro-, opto- and SHF-electronics in the country until 2040

On February 29, the NAS of Belarus hosted a meeting of the Council for Strategic Projects under the President of the Republic of Belarus. The main topic was the discussion of promising directions for the development of micro-, opto- and SHF-electronics in the country for the period 2025–2040. It was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Education, high-tech companies related to the production and application of microelectronics, as well as members of the Coordinating Council of the innovation and industrial cluster Micro-, Opto- and SHF-Electronics and dedicated experts. Alexander Kosinets, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Belarus (Deputy Chairman of the Council), took part in the meeting.

Opening the meeting, Chairman of the Council for Strategic Projects under the President of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov noted that Belarus, which has preserved its industrial potential and increased it during the years of independence, thanks to the efforts of the Head of State, demonstrates a high level of technological sovereignty, provides friendly countries with urgently needed products. "We have developed the competencies inherent in Belarus during the Soviet Union as a common "assembly site". But that's not enough today. We need advanced development based on advanced scientific developments and a modernized “state-of-the-art” production base. The President of the Republic of Belarus is aiming us at this," Vladimir Gusakov stressed.

It was noted that on the eve of the Council meeting, two meetings of the Coordinating Council of the innovation and industrial cluster Micro-, Opto- and SHF-Electronics were held. They discussed the results of the cluster's work in 2022–2023, the plan for 2024, as well as promising areas of development in the field of microelectronics. The purpose of the current meeting is to identify key tasks for the period up to 2040, work out problematic aspects and propose solutions.

At the meeting of the Council for Strategic Projects on February 29, a number of topical issues were considered. These are: the progress of the project on the modernization of crystal production (Integral Company); current trends in the development of optoelectronics (State Research and Production Association Optics, Optoelectronics and Laser Technology); SHF-electronics and microsystem engineering: technological solutions for the real sector (Minsk Research Institute of Radiomaterials); the state and prospects of electronic engineering (Planar Company); materials for the microelectronic industry (Institute of Physics named after B.I. Stepanov of the NAS of Belarus, Institute of Physical and Organic Chemistry of the NAS of Belarus); software in the design and application of microelectronics products (United Institute of Informatics Problems of the NAS of Belarus), development of human resources of microelectronics (Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics), strategic prospects for the development of the microelectronics industry in Belarus (Integrated Micro- and Nanosystems R&D Lab of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, NAS of Belarus).

In their speeches, the heads of enterprises and scientific organizations not only assessed the situation in the republic on the subject of the report, but also made specific proposals (justifications, calculations, etc.) for solving the issues raised.

Following the meeting, a working group will be formed to consider all the comments and suggestions made, as well as specific proposals for the development of micro-, opto- and SHF-electronics in the country until 2040.
