Academician, famous Belarusian neurophysiologist Vladimir Kulchitsky dies

Belarusian science has suffered a heavy loss. On April 11, 2024, Vladimir Adamovich Kulchitsky, a well-known scientist in the field of experimental and clinical neurophysiology, academician, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, Head of the Brain Center of the Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, died at the age of 77. He devoted his entire life to the development of modern ideas about the functioning of the brain and neural networks in norm and pathology. The main milestones of his biography are inextricably linked with the history of academic medical science.

Kulchitsky Vladimir Adamovich (1948−2024)

Vladimir A. Kulchitsky was born in the Chita region of the Russian Federation in a military family. Graduated with honors from the Kuibyshev Medical Institute in 1972. Since 1989, for 35 years, Vladimir Kulchitsky worked at the Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and went through a professional path from researcher to academician, Deputy Director for scientific work for more than 17 years and Head of the Brain Center of a leading academic institute.

In 1998, he was awarded the title of professor, in 2000 he was elected a corresponding member of the NAS of Belarus, in 2017 a full member (academician) of the NAS of Belarus.

Vladimir A. Kulchitsky is the author of more than 400 scientific papers, including 21 monographs, 29 patents for inventions. He has trained 3 doctors and more than 20 candidates of sciences. He was awarded the Breastplate of Distinction named after V.M. Ignatovsky and the Certificate of Honor of the NAS of Belarus. Winner of the Lenin Komsomol Prize in 1979.

The scientific research of Academician Vladimir A. Kulchitsky has significantly enriched national science with unique knowledge in the field of neurophysiology. A significant achievement was the development and introduction into clinical practice of original innovative methods of treatment of neurological diseases.

Academician Vladimir A. Kulchitsky enjoyed a well-deserved recognition among the general scientific community, colleagues and students. He made a significant contribution to strengthening ties between academic and university science, practical healthcare, and the development of the Belarusian school of neurophysiology.

The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Vladimir Adamovich. The bright memory of Vladimir Adamovich, a prominent scientist, an experienced organizer, and a talented teacher, will forever remain in our memory.

Last respects will be paid to Academician Vladimir A. Kulchitsky on April 16, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Large Conference Hall of the NAS of Belarus (Minsk, 66 Nezalieznasci Ave.; 2nd floor).
